Anybody know who's singing on this version of Love's No Fun?

Jill Jones?

Elisa Fiorillo.

I thought it was Mayte's version at first but I was wrong.

It's really interesting to hear how this direction wasn't really new when it came to Prince. The Clare Fischer mix of New Position shows the same concept as his expermintation with the STRINGenius.

I'm loving High Fashion. There should be an official re-release of The Family's album with a bonus disc of Prince's versions. cool

Or just a release of Prince’s version of a The Family’s album...
Is High Fashion any different from the version we already had? I’ve skipped over the tracks I already knew... too much to digest at once!

It's freaking weird to hear the intro to 17 Days, all when you're ready for the drum to start it continues to loop that "woaaow, woaaow"sound just a few seconds longer. Haven't gotten used to that yet. And am I the only one who think Brendas speech resembles the computer speech in Computer Blue Hallway Speech". The butterfly part. It's like they're brother and sister songs.

Prince's version is funky for sure, and so is Chaka's. The instrumental is Times Squared.

I find it strange that the 1991 cut is even listed on Princevault.

.

Alan Leeds said that Prince had cut it http://thelastmiles.com/i...-leeds.php

BUT...

Eric Leeds said that Prince didn't wanna have nothing to do with it, had Eric do it and didn't add any music on it (that Eric knew of) before sending it to Miles: http://www.thelastmiles.c...-part2.php

.

Obviously, Eric's version would have to more informed, therefore closer to the truth, than Alan's.

It's not clear if Prince added something to Eric's version or not:

.

"Prince looks at me and says: “Why don’t do you some tracks for him?” So I said: “He’s not asking me – he’s asking you!” And Prince says “Yeah, but I want to give him something”. “So I said “What do you want me to do?” and Prince said “Just go in the studio and have some fun and do something and send it to him. I’ll check it out first.” It was like “Maybe you can come up with something that I can then do some stuff with.” He left it open like that. Somehow it had been intimated that Miles was interested in Prince’s song “Nothing Compares 2 U,” so Alan suggested I do a track on that, so I did and a little thing of mine I called “Frame of Mind.”"

.

But PrinceVault lists this version as being by Prince only ("Prince - all instruments (assumed)"), which is incorrect.

But the version that Eric cut for Miles is not the version on this set? Right?

The wooh is on the one!

'Bang Bang' is strange... different in the details. The Bob George middle section has a different text, right?

The Lovesexy outtakes are all completely fantastic.

Yo Mister (which I already had in poor quality) is really kind of moving.

New Position and Others Here With Us with strings sound so weird... New Position is fantastic though!

A while back, chatting to one user on twitter, they mentioned that they had most of Parade's songs with Clare Fisher's arrangements. Having heard this, I really want to hear the rest now!

So apparently "Face Down" uses samples not only from Clare Fischer's orchestration for "Killin' At The Soda Shop" but also from his orchestration for "New Position".

.

Prince really liked to recycle.

it speaks to the way his mind worked, that he would go back to those 2 parts of orchestration
just for those few snippets in Face Down. seems like he had a lot of that vault stuff ready in
his head for future reference. i mean, instead of just adding some keyboard strings he went
to the trouble of diggin up those old tapes and sampling them? damn.

Oops.

.

The part at 0:22 on "New Position" is sampled at 1:52 on "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic", not on "Face Down". My bad.

"It ain't Over 'Till The Fat Lady Sings" sounds like the weird music during Under The Cherry Moon when Tricky is drunk & ranting around the club and has a fight with Christopher. Then the toothy old lady asks him when they can get together again.

"New Position" and "17 Days" - worth it all.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
