ALSO who would have been a possible musical voice against the uber Right Wing that has developed in America right now other than Prince? Michael was dead. [Edited 11/21/17 19:39pm]

Because Prince was known for being so tolerant of others' religious and sexual orientations? womens' rights?, the hypocracy of certain conservative strains of Christianity? BRUUUUUUUCE!

Would you make up your mind? 2 weeks ago you said you had it from a good source that he had leukemia. Now you are saying it was a HIT/MURDER/ASSASSINATION. Didn't you also say you were writing a book, or something of the like?

I think he could have been a moderate voice against the uber right (I heard that even Mormons were anti-Trump). He wasn't spouting the conspiracy theories quite as much. He had his moments of bitterness in the past where Jews in power were concerned but I don't think he was an ANTI-semite (with a capital A) and he seemd to be over that shit towards the end (friendship with BobbyZ was seemingly stronger, no more songs like Family Name [in which he compared black suffering to Jewish suffering], homosexuality? (Damn, he's all over the place on that one, but was staying neutral at the end of his life [stating he would not express an opinion one way or the othe on gay marriage--I imagine he was stuck between a rock and hard place--JW doctrine and progressive hollywood thinking] and according to Wendy wanted to be called "Uncle PRincey" by her child who had been delivered by her wife, I was also surprised that in 2011 Shelby {probably with Prince's permission}invited gay photographer Mike Ruiz (who at least four times had photo shoots with Prince} up on stage with his lover (and the couple actually kissed on stage) and P still worked with him again.), he was tolerant of Islam and against the Iraq war, he had his moments of sexism in 2001 but seemed to be more encouraging of women succeeding on their own terms towards the end of his life (people like Janelle Monae calling him a feminist, and P having encouraging statements about a female president in one of his later interviews, the non-sexualizing of 3rdEye Girl and being a fan of and havin 'proteges" and mentorees who wrote their own lyrics/music and had their own style (unlike Carmen electra and mayte). He also, according to KIm B and even Bria Valente (who talked privately to some commentator at a Prince conference) was veering away from strict adherence to JW's. The dude believed in chakras at the end of his life which of course doesn't quite align with JW's beliefs.
Anyhow, Prince had varying and changing views. At the end of his life, he supported Black LIves Matter and talked about removing guns in the Baltimore song. Still no fan of government and still religious, but certainly not going to support a racist like trump. One good thing about trump is that he has united many people (of varying political persuasions) in opposition to him. Van JOnes and Afshin Shahidi both believe Prince would have been a voice for working together (which really is how one opposes trump.)

GREAT response, PRH! | |

Thanks and I do see your point--Prince had some questionable conservative beliefs at times and could say things that made me question his tolerance of others..(but then he would seem to contradict those notions in other interviews.). But the man was always changing and his beliefs were super idiosyncratic /outside the box. Above all, at the end of his life, he really seemed to hate racism (understandably). So I believe had he come out of his bubble a bit more he might have become even more of a positive voice. (agreeing to appear at the White House when Obama was prez was not just a gig--its not like Prince needed the money..) I do think Prince seemed like a man torn between a religious belief that mankind was not fit to rule and a belief that the people should have a voice. I find it fascinating that he once said that he hooked up with Van so he could learn about politics as an extension of his bible studies. Maybe he was trying to find a way to reconcile the two things. Obviously, man is not entirely fit to rule (we are too human and flawed) but unless an omniscient, benign being comes down to earth to do it for us, we are the best we got so we might as well make the best of it...hopefully, that's what Prince was realizing. My opinion is that people who are weary of government should stop acting like it is "us" against them and being complacent. If they don't want to vote, fine, but I think they should be activists for their beliefs and sway the beliefs of the folks in power. Despite politicans's party affliations, if the governement is structured correctly and the people are informed and involved enough at least at the grass roots level, politicans will bend and perhaps facilitate in what the people need. I hope he realized that at the end. I can hope. The line quoted below from "Fix ur Life up" was encouraging... (BTW< I am a moderate liberal who sees the necessity of government but still also believes what kennedy said that its not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" All major progressive or social movements begin at the grassroots level and they are even more successful when people of money and success (especially from certain subcultures) llke Prince throw their money and influence behind those movements. ) Prince didn't throw his money into anti-abortion causes or the CHristian right, he threw it into the Black Lives Matter movement, inner city music programs, children's causes and solar panels on people's homes, I think that says something about him.
NOt to get too political, but I think there should be a third house of the legislative branch that involves citizens voting to accept or veto congressional acts and laws. The people could register on an online site (each one devoted to an act or law). The citizen would have to answer questions thrown in the middle of the act (to prove they are actually reading it or listeing to it being read on the site if they are illiterate) and then they could vote yay or nay..(Of course, they would have to prove they are who they say they are and citizens of the country.) The final vote will be what the majority votes for or against. Something like that might be logistically impossible, but maybe if the average citizen felt they had a bit of a more direct say, they might take the time to become truely informed and involved. Veto power should be taken away from the president and given to the people. (maybe then, the leaders will learn how to follow and people will learn to look after what they need rather than what they want) Also, get rid of Super Pacs, the electoral college and life long terms for supreme court members and start having constitutional delegations every 15 years like James Madison suggested 200 years ago.
Sorry, mods...no more politics. I promise. sorry so long winded. .

"It was my job" is not a good enough excuse for everything. Either KJ was a friend who did his best to help P (and made mistakes) or he was a 30 year enabler and possibly a carrier of drugs for P. I would really prefer he wasn't the latter. Hell, maybe P fired him that night rendering KJ incapable of helping him (short of going to the police.)

The Dr put Kirk's name on the script. That leads me to believe that he was an enabler.

I am sad if black women felt that way. But Prince dating women who look like himself and/or his mother is not necessarily indicative of racism (it could just be instrinctive and Freudian.) . I am not saying all of his girlfriends resembled his and/or his mother's light-skinned looks, but many of them did.
