I don't think Prince ever did a metal song "at all". There are here and there some links to metal. For example Cybersingle, in the use of chorus, or in the guitar ending.

So R U There from Mc Flash project is not a pure heavy metal? Cybersyngle is not even hard rock ,its not even close to metal

. - Yes, Prince loved to use GAIN on the pedals. But in a pop/funk/light rock context

I grew to love that ridiculous song, despite myself

"Hard Rock Lover" fits the bill quite nicely. Well, parts of it. But that was Prince's thing -- creating his own thing out of bits and pieces from all over the place.

Live in concert is when Prince verged on metal. I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

The day prince died, almost every metal band in existence paid their respects on twitter. It was a sight to behold. I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

I don't think he ever really played any metal, bar the odd riff-heavy workout live, but he had overlap with bands who are considered metal; both Beautiful Strange and the reworked 3rd Eye Girl version of Lets Go Crazy sound like Soundgarden, albeit the more psychedelic side of them. PretzelbodyLogic is a pretty transparent reworking of Iron Man as well, a fundamental song in metal. [Edited 10/5/17 7:29am]

Then general public might not have known but fellow musicians did. I remember listening to a podcast from Nikki Sixx a day or two after Prince passed and everyone on there talked about what a “shredder” Prince was on guitar. Paisley Park is in your heart

bonatoc said: No one with me on the "The Undertaker" trio sessions? Yeah, but it's bluesrock. The answer to the question of the OP is simply: no. Metal, that's Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer... Nothing Prince ever did sounded like that.

tishal said: Parts of Motherless Child he rips.... I agree. Prince was somewhere else during that performance. The dancing moves where way out there too! :-o My son has exposed my ears to all levels of Metal: Heavy to Satanic. When he heard Prince's "Motherless Child" he said it wasn't metal. Thereafter my son brought my Prince music collection up to speed & downloaded them into his iPod. I also have Metal on my iPod. We attended 2-3 Prince concerts, also. I'll ♥️ "LemonDrop" 2DN 💋 your "Sugar"
