Speaking of DMSR, such a shame it wasn't released just after DELIRIOUS. It could have been a top 40 hit.
With this album,it's clear that Warners were trying to cross Prince over to pop audiences. The four singles reflect this strategy: "1999","Little Red Corvette","Delirious" and "Let's Pretend We're Married".These four songs fit comfortably on pop stations."DMSR" is pure funk/R&B,so it may not have crossed over.Still a great song, though and it got alot of airplay on the R&B stations anyway. |

Let's Pretend was a flop, I don't think it wasa good choice. If DMSR was wowed to be censored on radio, maybe Lady Cab Driver was a better choice. |

"Let's Pretend We're Married" was perhaps a little too nasty to be a single they should have chosen "Automatic" instead. |

Let's Pretend was a flop, I don't think it wasa good choice. If DMSR was wowed to be censored on radio, maybe Lady Cab Driver was a better choice. Let's Pretend We're Married was not promoted because he was off making PR and it was decided that no more promotion was going toward 1999. The public did not even see the video until YouTube came along. |
