In the penultimate slide, you will find some examples alongside possible explanations (Brian Morton says in Prince that he was influenced by graffiti and it might have been his response to his idea of non-arbitrariness* in languages as well as his struggle against colonialism and imperialism).
* Languages are usually considered arbitrary, which means there is no link between the meaning and the form of a word although there are quite a few studies disproving it (google "maluba and takete experiments"). full lips, freckles, and upturned nose | |
