Prince's homonyms... Purple Reign/Anesthesia

Purple Reign/Purple Rain

Which way should he have spelled it? What did he really mean?

Talking about heaven/utopia? Or prophesizing?

Duh… it’s all about his Purple Reign all over the world

Anna Stesia/Anesthesia

Which way should he have spelled it? What did he really mean?

Talking about God? Or talking about drugs?

Duh… it’s all about drugs

Any others?

There is a scholarly pres...his topic. In the penultimate slide, you will find some examples alongside possible explanations (Brian Morton says in Prince that he was influenced by graffiti and it might have been his response to his idea of non-arbitrariness* in languages as well as his struggle against colonialism and imperialism).

* Languages are usually considered arbitrary, which means there is no link between the meaning and the form of a word although there are quite a few studies disproving it (google "maluba and takete experiments").

Annie Christian or Anti-Christian. You be the judge.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
