Insane, ain't it? But that's what exposure will get you. And Prince was not overly exposed unfortunately. Or fortunately? shrug

Swift's music all sounds the same. She is a decent lyricist but her songs are dull and her voice is mediocre.

I'd like to know how that person got away with filming all of that, cuz if any of the security at Prince's concerts ever caught you, you were instantly GONE.

I'd imagine that they got away with it by not being caught by Prince's security.

RIP sad

Yeah my dad took a few pictures at a Lovesexy show and they caught him on about the 6th picture and smashed his camera.

Considering h0w much gets taken down (Comerica is in on the act now) I’m surprised what is still up. Last year I got all three nights of 2011 North Sea Jazz. Quality isn’t the best but better than nothing. I also found both nights of 2009 Montreux as well as 2011 Hop Farm. If only the estate would get on with releasing this live stuff...

Let's not pretend, even during his liftimea and videos like 'Breakfast can wait', offical singles via WarnerBros - 'Breakdown'. 'Way Back Home', 'Funk'n'Roll' were hitting 2M views max. Prince was always underrated.

That concert filming is very good. May have been done by a professional.

"Prince and the Band" from one of the Musicology acoustic sets. Saw it for the first time the other day.

A lot of the "criminally low hits" are becasue they get taken down so quick (a lot of them anyhow).

When you say criminally low hits, and then explain it by measuring Prince's hits on Youtube against those of Taylor Swift.... you are not comparing like for like.

One man or woman's outstanding live clip, is another kid's boring old fart playing weird old music that is of no relevance to them.

Had Youtube been around in 1984, I'm not sure old grainy concert footage of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra or B.B King from the 1950's would have torn me away from watching When Doves Cry or Let's Go Crazy over and over, no matter how much my dad assured me I was missing out on some of the best music of all time (he was right) .... so why should it be different for the majority of today's kids?

For some fans it might feel a shame that not more people are exposed to the genius and joy or Prince, but Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran mean something NOW to tens of millions of people around the world, and Prince, when it comes to the Youtube audience, obviously doesn't. That's fine by me. He didn't gear his career towards the Youtube generation/model, or measure his own success by it. If he didn't care I'm damned if I'm going to, lol.

Those live experiences were appreciated and loved when it really mattered to Prince.... in the moment they happened, by those who were there. If people today can get a kick out of watching old Youtube clips of him... great. If not, it's no biggie. biggrin

So, ageism justifies ignoring great performances? the lack of attention is criminal because the amount of skill required for him to do what he did. I don't like Swift. I do respect Ed Sheeren. There are performances by modern musicians I like. So, I am not pitting old musicians against young ones. . I am currently a teacher's aide in middle school. I like the youth of this country. But music did not begin with their era and they simply need to open their minds to all eras. I grew up listening to many eras of music. I really branched out to 60's rock when I was around 15 and I didn't need youtube to branch out to 60's rock etc. I grew up in the 80's and90's but understood that my generation was not the only cool one.

By the way, my kids love Prince and don't think of him as an old fart because I exposed them to his music. I recently found out that my 14 year old niece likes Prince and knows the song Sexy MF. I could't believe she knew that song and i also wondered how she stumbled upon the song. I didn't get a chance to ask.

So I was right.... comparing the two in any way, even Youtube hits...... is pointless. Glad we agree.

Under aprreciated. There's a difference. A lot of that was his own doing though. Has to be said. Prince initially loved the internet, then rejected it. Prince spent the last half of his career battling bullshit of his own making.

Who are y'all to say stuff like that? Is this thread really about appreciating him, PRH? Or just another way to chew over endless swipes at Prince?

Let me ask you in all seriousness. Are you chastising the folks on that godawful "If Ahmir had lived" thread? Are you chastising folks on those threads which indicate that Prince was a heartless womanizer with a harem of dumb ambitious chicks.? Any indications that Prince might have had some weakness or vulnerability or mental illness and people get their panties in a bunch. But depict him as a heartless pimp/svengali and no one seems to get defensive. Really which one is worse--a heartless prick or a man with some mental struggles (like many many people in the world) and a complex personal life? I have more compassion for the latter.

This is not about another thread. It's about what is coming out of your mouth on YOUR thread. To paraphrase Prince. this says a lot more about you than it does him. Read your title again and maybe say something nice.
