Revolution keyboardist shares untold stories from Prince's soon-to-be reissued 'Purple Rain'

Revolution keyboardist Lisa Coleman talks about the expanded reissue coming Friday.

http://www.startribune.com/revolution-keyboardist-shares-untold-stories-from-prince-s-soon-to-be-reissued-purple-rain/428738003/

So, has it been established how much involvement Prince had?

On Prince’s involvement with this repackaging, which was reportedly in the works before his death in April 2016

“It was hard for him to ever look backwards,” Coleman said. “I can’t imagine him being involved in it. But who knows? He was such a control freak.”

Nevertheless, she felt “he’d be proud of it. They [Warner Bros.] made smart choices as far as what bonus tracks to include.”

So basically Lisa has no idea if he was involved with it or not. Throwing "We Can Fuck" and "Wonderful Ass on there - when it's well known how Prince felt about profanity later in his career - were smart choices? Really? There were no other songs from that time period they could have chosen instead? It's as bad as the Prince4Ever CD including Head and Sexy MF. hmph!

Basically, but everyone is creaming their jeans as if she had definite knowledge to this remaster etc.

Yes it was a smart choice to include those two songs. It was a smart choice to include the other 9 songs too. Every song that was included in this upcoming release is a smart choice. Why? Because we're finally getting our ears and hands on these fantastic songs after all these years.

.

For all other future expanded edition albums we get, I don't care what vault songs are released with what albums. I just want 'em. I fucking want them all. I'll arrange them in my music collection in an order that makes sense for me.

.

I've purchased the 3 songs so far from iTunes, and I have my Amazon preorder to arrive as well. I can't wait for that. And I can't wait for the future releases and all the smart choices for songs they will include.

.

Thank you Prince. Thank you WB (YES, WB). Thank you Revolution. Thank you Susan Rogers. Now please get back to work and start planning those next releases.

Presumably, Prince submitted a tamer version, and WB has, funked fucked it up, so to speak.

It is stupid and very disrespectful. Not to mention the song is well known on the bootlegg circut lots of people have already heard before.

I want to know what happend to Wednesday by Jill Jones. I do not remember seeing Vanity being called Katrina in the PR script that has been floating around on the internet for years.

I realize at some point WB was going to have to put out something with or without Prince's okay because he signed a deal with them but at least they could have picked songs that had something to do with the film.

exactly

Even though lots of guys are against WB - I would pay for PR Deluxe release.

Not because it would not be available on torrents shortly - but just becase I want to get othere releases - and that would only happen if people music.

And unlike most of Prince music - this one you could buy legally today smile))

I would pay for quality release of Montreux 2013 or 3rd eye girl Manchester show. Just tell me where should I put my money smile))

WB is going to be out more stuff. Let's just hope they work with people that were around and do a better job next time. I expect better from then if it was another company since they have a history with him and many of the players who were around are avalible to give input. From Lisa's comments in the article I am going to assume no one spoke to the Revolution at all which just seems well stupid.

Well I'll stop talking about. Though I was just responding to a quote from the link. Maybe this thread needs to be merged into the other one, or maybe it's not such a big deal if sometimes a thread content overlaps with an existing thread content...

Overlap always happens, but history has proven once certain lines of though open, it just turns into a similar discussion already in progress. She says so much more in her interview than what about should or shouldn't be on the album. Actually I don't think she says that at all.

Where did she mention this?

It seems (and I could be wrong...) that you wanted to rush to say 'shows that even her memory isn't exactly perfecto'

When all U had to do was read/quote/cut n paste, the part you are finding fault with ...

Maybe your memory isn't exactly perfecto? lol or maybe you are talking about another interview where she mentions a line from Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden about Gene Harlowe?

On the new songs — starting with “Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden,” which the Revolution is performing on its current tour

They were two different songs at first. Prince sang “Our Destiny,” then he had Coleman record it on lead vocals and then Jill Jones do it. Coleman said Prince was caught up about a line about Rita Hayworth that didn’t please him.

To Coleman, “Roadhouse Garden” was “such a good time. It reminds me of a sunny day in Minneapolis and things were good. We were in a good mood. Prince was really happy. It felt like a true story.”
