Any NONPrince songs U hear & think it could've been written about Prince or by Prince OR would dedicate to him?

Are there any songs you hear and think it could have been written about Prince? Or even by Prince (but isn't) - because lyrically fits or matches a style etc.

I was just curious, there is this song from Darren Hayes (who is a self-proclaimed huge Prince fan - has said his song Insatiable was inspired by Prince's Insatable - also has a song called Violet and others). A lot of the lyrics, especially the first half of the song, I can envision it as if Prince was singing those words, because somehow they lyrically fit him.

I'd be interested to hear songs others have had Prince come to mind when listening, can be due to lyrical content or particular instrumental arrangements, whatever. smile

Or if not, songs that you hear and would dedicate to him - even before?

grouphug today. Celebrate him today everyone love2

Yes...the hook sounds exactly like 'Lady Cab Driver'. I thought it was Prince when it first came out. Definitely a Prince-inspired song.

Obviously "Untitled" by D'Angelo, it is an acknowledge homage.

The Georgio's ballads "1/4 2 9" and "I Don't Want 2 Be Alone".

"Holding On To You" by TTD.

To some extent, "Skin Trade" by Duran Duran.

Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars

Aquaman - Walk The Moon - sounds like a electo-ballad from Prince circa 1981-82.

Whoever is doing the music for Target commercials has been ripping off Prince ever since he died with no end in sight.

Brand new boogie without the hero.

To my ears Walk The Moon sounds more MJ ala Human Nature to me biggrin

One song that's always made me laugh because he is so dying to be Prince but just ain't is Georgio's Tina Cherry, especially the video, my boyfriend cringed the entire time lol

omg sad We don't get Target commercials since they went belly-up up here. I hate that. Same as I hate that the car company is using Gene Wilder/Willy Wonka song. He's not here to ask his permission either, but no one cares disbelief

That 'Slow Hands' song sounds musically like a Prince song, especially the guitar part. His voice is nothing like Prince, though.

This is more on the negative side but, lyrically, in Lou Reed's 1989 song 'Strawman' he asks:

"Does anyone need
another self-righteous rock singer

whose nose, he says

has led him straight to god?"

I always had a funny feeling about who that might've been aimed at. lol

PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman!

I always thought Ne-Yo's Sex With My Ex and Addicted had a very definite Prince influence. Definitely paying homage in those two songs.
