Since when "We Can Funk" became "We Can Fuck"? Like in "Erotic City", I always loved the ambiguity of it. Did he say it? Did he not? Imagine Vanity 6 ending getting out as "Vagina 6".
Why choose blatant over an (OK, not so subtle) innuendo? My guess is marketing shock value. Causal 1984 fan in his.her forties: "Ooooh, there's a song called 'We Can Fuck', must be the cousin to 'Darling Nikki'! Quick, to the cash register!"
Not to mention it historically and artistically has no reason to be on PR Deluxe (same goes for a few other songs in the track list). I'm glad we're having an outtakes disc, but it looks like a messy patchwork. No artistic direction whatsoever.

I thought the story has always been that it was originally called We can Fuck. It was changed to We Can Funk when he began resurrecting it in 1986 and 1989.... This is the original, or at least an earlier, version, hence this name. [Edited 6/4/17 0:43am]

Well we all know by now the upcoming tracklisting and most of the songs on PR Deluxe... But according to Matthieu Bitton, there will be some sort of surprise and never before seen images and more "priceless" stuff in the packaging...
What are your thoughts?
Mathieu Bitton And let me counter that by saying that this isn't entirely true. No one had "Electric Intercourse," this version of "Katrina's Paper Dolls," " We Can Fuck," and the incredible movie version of "Father's Song." I can't get too into it but don't forget the family also had a say and although yes I'm a professional and have worked on over 800 albums, reissues, boxed sets, dvds etc, I am also a fan and did consult on this project. You obviously have heard the music and I agree with you that Father's Song is the most amazing thing on there. There is also some amazing (never seen) visual stuff that I helped provide and more priceless stuff in the packaging (I'll let that to WB to reveal). Let's down attack my friend who produced this either, I'm sure you have some idea of what it's like dealing with anything Prince related? Never easy, in life or death. And I have first hand experience in both. Have a great day.

It was always my hope (whether Prince was alive or not) that if there was a PR deluxe release that there would be never B4 seen photos from the time period. Same goes with all the other albums possible re-releases/deluxes. I'm happy for this.
He said he took TONS of photos from the 1982-1984 period. |

Nothing against this person but what about people who actually worked on the PR album and movie. Surely they must have had stuff to add to the project. Prince had specific photographers he did work with back then and they are alive and well.
I cannot understand why outsiders have to be brought in and I think WB and the estate may be making a big mistake doing this as we all know "We Can Fuck" has nothing to do with PR and I know WB was going to put this project out with or without Prince's involvement but they could at least keep the music in some sort of time line. Because Mathieu Bitton was involved. Just like we will have a 3rd disc of unreleased music from the period, they will include unreleased photose from that projecct.
No different than in they included a pullout of the unused painting for ATWIAD, it is still a part of the era.
And we are only hearing about what he is directly involved with. There could easily be others. |

I read his bio and it did not say anything about him working for Prince in fact he said in his bio he was nine in 1984. I think you are getting him confused with Allen Beaulieu who did take a lot of photos of Prince back then. He has 3,000 photos of Prince. So once again who the hell is Mattew to Allen. I say someone outsider getting a check.

Assumptions, some of which are ridiculous. You are right that I never photographed Prince and was in France and 11 years old when Purple Rain came out, however I worked with him on several projects and have over 800 releases under my belt and many are boxed sets and compilations just like this one. These question are not unusual as you were nine in 1984. I would love to see Allen Beaulieu 3,000 photos and I wonder why he was not consulted. We need old heads for these projects and since many are alive and well what is the reason they are not being utlizled?

After all, I Workes on a bunch of Miles Davis releases including the Bitches Brew 40th Anniversay Box set (which I gave to Prince at his house incidentally). Anyway, it's impossible to please a lot of Prince fans and I'm happy with what WB did on this. And in case you didn't know I worked on marketing of the "Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas," co-produced and Art Directed/Designed "Ultimate Prince" and some other projects that didn't see the light of day (including an unreleased Ballads collection called When 2R In Love). And as I said, you will get other answers when you have the beautiful release in your hands. And eventually another project I'm currently working on. Have a good day. PS: I had actually discussed Deluxe Editions of Prince's albums with him when he saw the Lenny Kravitz Deluxes I produced and designed as well as the James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder etc deluxes I designed. --I am sure it is normal for people to work on projects they were not involved with originally but why in this case not use them. Has anyone even asked? Prince did mention the ballad project once in an interview and how old WB put the quash on the project. |

Ill answer more when the project is out. I was 11 then. But it's normal to work on legacy projects that you may not have been involved with originally. As I said, you will see the answer to your question on the release.
Is there anything else you could share us about the upcoming PR Deluxe release... Do you know of any promotion because 3 weeks left before the release we have seen literally no promotion what so ever from the estate or WB. |

We try to guess what the suprise will be on PR Deluxe....the only real surprise will be bonus unreleased material. ...that's it...except that I don't see the point to make some buzz for few unreleased pictures or anecdotes in the booklet! |
