And let me take this moment to let you guys know we are launching the Larry Williams Photography Facebook page now and it will have more updates and info soon. This is related to the other project I hinted at. Let's spread the word and help the world know about this other dealrly departed artist who crested these iconic images and directed the "When Doves Cry" video. I am in charge of this project working with his family.

Great to have Tangerine17 back sharing what information he can. I loved Ultimate despite the edits to the original concept.

The packaging looks very nice! Happy to see detailed liner notes included. I can only hope this is maintained for further deluxe issues (and that Mathieu is invited to contribute there as well).

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

It would be great to have extensive info on the artwork process, the lettering, the illustration on the back of the LGC maxi-single, Laura Li Puma, etc., Marie-France's work...
There's some work to do for a proper legacy PR, a few years from now.

Many thanks for the info. It is really appreciated on this end!!!

Haven't seen it in real life, but the pictures of the packiging are not giving me a nice and warm feeling inside. But hey, I could be wrong. The booklet looks promising, with the liner notes. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

The booklet in the 4 discs pack looks promising, but the 2 discs version seems very thin.
I really wish they had charges a bit more and gone for real deluxe packaging. I know that people don't buy physical CDs anymore, but that's why I feel they should have made the packaging more attractive...

I am sorry but a orger belived you were around in 84 and I pointed out you were not around and I woud be curious to know what exactly you worked on with Prince? What albums and when and what could you have that has anything to do with PR?

These question are not unusual as you were nine in 1984. I would love to see Allen Beaulieu 3,000 photos and I wonder why he was not consulted. We need old heads for these projects and since many are alive and well what is the reason they are not being utlizled?

You want assumptions I hope WB is not making an assumption that fans are going to buy whatever they throw out and I hope they learned their lesson with "Prince4Ever"

Ill answer more when the project is out. I was 11 then. But it's normal to work on legacy projects that you may not have been involved with originally. After all, I Workes on a bunch of Miles Davis releases including the Bitches Brew 40th Anniversay Box set (which I gave to Prince at his house incidentally). Anyway, it's impossible to please a lot of Prince fans and I'm happy with what WB did on this. And in case you didn't know I worked on marketing of the "Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas," co-produced and Art Directed/Designed "Ultimate Prince" and some other projects that didn't see the light of day (including an unreleased Ballads collection called When 2R In Love). And as I said, you will get other answers when you have the beautiful release in your hands. And eventually another project I'm currently working on. Have a good day. PS: I had actually discussed Deluxe Editions of Prince's albums with him when he saw the Lenny Kravitz Deluxes I produced and designed as well as the James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder etc deluxes I designed.

Information like Matthieu is sharing is the kind of information we always want to hear. I can't believe that the first knee jerk reaction by some people here is "can't be true". Looking forward to the PR deluxe release, and here's hoping that WB will do a lot more deluxe Prince releases soon.

Same here!

Is there a possibility you will slam the door, or is entry a guarentee. wink

My old-fashioned self will be going on a trip to the record store on the 23rd to get my hands on it.

You're right! I haven't looked at the 2 disc version that good, but that doesn't look good. I know the music business is changing, but one can come up with some decent packaging.

I too was hoping for some super-deluxe packaging. If you see what U2 for example is doing with their Joshua Tree album.............. I want something like that from Prince too. That man deserves it!!! That album deserves it!!!

The booket will be great: it has comprehensive, track-by-track comments by the members of The Revolution. Exciting!

If you mean 3 CD & DVD edition, you're getting the deluxe edition with booklet/visuals.

Matt's bio

You see this kind of thing is the reason I left the org the first time around. Assumptions, some of which are ridiculous. You are right that I never photographed Prince and was in France and 11 years old when Purple Rain came out, however I worked with him on several projects and have over 800 releases under my belt and many are boxed sets and compilations just like this one. And in this case I had somethings no one else had, therefore it made sense. So yes "this guy" "Mattew" "Matt" (my name is Mathieu) actually brought something very special to the project and was happy to help with this and other things. And as you will see - and this is why this kind of things annoys me so much - you are wrong about another major point you are complaining about. But I'll let the release speak on that. Peace. Mattew, I mean Matt, I mean this guy, Mathieu smile

Thanks for your input Mathieu.

That would be the cherry on the cake (and make up for the disc of edits - coaster maybe? To go along with the Elixir one…). On recent funkenberry he talks about there possibly being news about it streaming around the 23rd. He's usually on the money.

Don't interpret the "surprise" as something more than it is... Matthew said it's about the never before seen photographs incorporated in the booklet, nothing more. No extra dvd's.

I actually read it on this board. Which would mean someone provided incorrect information. Not sure how repeating what I read makes it my fault that the information is wrong.

This is what I posted. Tell me what is incorrect. This person was not around in 84 and looking at the package so far I am not that impressed ( I pre-ordered it so I have a right to comment on it but unlike the rest of you I expected it to be cheap and half assed ) and I still would like to see Allen's photo's. Of course I got only one questioned answered and the rest of the response has nothing to do with anything.

Once again, Allen Beaulieu DID NOT SHOOT Purple Rain. Larry Williams shot him for Rolling Stone and Prince liked it so much he had WB use the photos for the album poster and for publicity. Ron Slenzak shot the set photos that ended up being the cover image. Prince asked Larry to shoot the "When Doves Cry" video and shot more photos (the album poster and exclusive images I mentioned having licensed to WB for the deluxe). All this to say your Allen B reference and argument makes no sense. And as far as not being impressed with the quality, wait until you see how amazing the printing is. And the involvement of the Revolution and another person who was very involved then, should put your complaints at bay. I'm typing fast from a recording studio so forgive any typos. MB
