I got a life. I dont have time to even check her on instagram much less stalking on there. It is funny how the ones who can't stand knows more about what is going with her than the ones who doesn't have issues with her.
Nevermind her minons stalking people and sucking on her hookah and carrying in about Prince's migraines.

I'm quite sure I could come up with the same list of your flaws and make a case out of your lifetime of fuck ups and publish a book and expose you after your gone. and I'm sure your story would be more interesting if told by he said she said as indicated in your post. No? and mine too. No? I always viewed Prince as human with flaws like all of us, who kept very private and was genius in his music. I dont mind reading about his ups and downs but certain details I could do with out. That's just me.

Well said by both of you. I don't get all the bashing either. Yes, other people loved Prince too like Sheila and the Revolution, yet what they are doing is ok? I dont see any difference between those associates, proteges and their actions and Mayte. Maybe they are showing appreciation and love for Prince by performing, writing, singing, whatever. People mature and grow out of phases in their life and I like to think Prince would have still loved all these folks regardless and not judged. Although a strong reaction was described upon Prince clearly seeing HEIR son, it doesnt mean he didnt love him. Maye carried the child, Prince held him. In the big scheme of things, Mayte writing a book about someone she loved, is not a big deal. It took some courage to write the book since more than likely she knew the pushback and dislike she would receive although coming from a place of love.
Some people are just mad because while they dream of being his wife and carrying his child, she actually was the real thing. That is what I am suspecting. They wanted some closeness to Prince and is resentful toward her because at least she can testify the closeness she had with him. I understand we all still dealing with his loss his way, but taking out at her isn't going to make them heal. I fully believed she is the scapegoat because of their angruish they never saw him live or have some personal connected with his idol. She can say that. She was closed to him for 10 years as a dancer and sang backup on a few of his songs like the Pope, wife, appeared in his videos out of admiration, and mother to his child and their miscarriage one too. That can pissed off a hardcore stan with puppy love fantasies because that stan wasn't HER.
By the way I am not a Mayte stan. But it is hard to find her so unlikable or the actual reason for a strong dislike. She apparently still have some hard love toward him even after all the things he did to her like cheating and tell how to express over her lost. If I was in her shoes, I wouldn't love him so hard like that. But Prince still doing magically things even as I believed his energy transformed to another source in this universe.
Even when I read this book, I am sure she is going to keep alot of personal things she witnessed to herself. |

What a weird way to say that Prince took her virginity?
“A week or so later, I wrote in bold in my journal: Feb. 9, 1993 — not a virgin,” she says in the book. “And I drew a winking smiley face. Patience pays off.”

Exactly. So we are to believe that Prince would say this:
A year later, when Garcia was 19, Prince declared, “I think it’s time,” directing her to get birth control.
For a book that is supposed to be romantic, a "love story", this doesn't sound romantic. ♡I just wanna love you right

So the more people bashing her the more support she is going to get. Haters are basically unpaid promoters.
My first post. I bought Mayte's book because haters. Thank you to those who hate Mayte so much!
That what I just said earlier . Haters are basically Unpaid Promoters. If a person truly can't stand a person, they wouldn't even mention their name because that means they won't get any attention. The more that person loudly can't stand that person, the more others will support that target.
Why else public figures often said, They love their haters!
Personally Mayte is cool to me and she seems likable, but I am going to save my money to purchase any books from the 80s folks like the Time, the revolution, and especially one of my favorites Jill Jones. I have a special heart for the 1978-86 era. But if her book lands at my local library, I will check it out. |

It seems the negativity stems from an presumption she is making money off him and he's only been gone less than a year, he's dead and can't speak of it, the timing, the cover of the book, the contents, the title, you name it there are those that will find any reason not to like it because of the author. This woman should have written this book when Prince was alive. Period. She had plenty of opportunity to "share" her "heartbreaking" story, but waited until after his death. Oh, please. Why now?!? and why release it doing the anniversary month of his death? Why not on her birthday since it's about her?!? So, her motives are questionable. [Edited 3/17/17 15:07pm] |

You don't have the book Laura. What you have is a bootleg copy, of possibly just excerpts, even if it is the entire bootleg book, that may not be what is being printed in the real deal. |

Try finding something else to do than being concerned with the behavior of a woman you so clearly hate. I mean, hell, I'd have a mouth on me, too, if I had to constantly be bothered by people doing this. And if her friends are 'harassing you', maybe it's because you won't leave the damn woman alone. Stop it, and leave her alone. You hate her, we get it. Now find a different hobby. You aren't convincing anyone who doesn't already dislike her to dislike her, so just. Stop. It. One could argue that she is painting herself as a martyr. The People article isn't that bad, but the daily mail excerpts do paint him as a svengeli and her as some innocent. Leaving out the fact that no one put a gun to her head or her parent's head. No one physically forced her to go without the amnio, no one forced her to keep working for a guy who would fine her for eating too much, no one forced her to go on Oprah (she could have said no...). She chose to hopefully because she loved him and not just because she didn't want to jump off the gravy train. Her age is not enough of an excuse. He didn't impregnate her at 16. I am not condemning her and I do get that she was innocent in many regards (but not all), but she had free will and if she didn't have it, her parents certainly did.
I am not saying that is her intent, but she doesn't seem to have any concern for how the media loves sound bites and stuff taken out of context.
Another thought, according to her, she was mourning in her bed and hugging the urn with her son's ashes. Prince couldn't take it, left, came back and then 'forced' her to go on Oprah by saying I need you to do this for me. Is it possible he thought he was doing her a favor, getting out her out of her stupor and eradicating rumors at the same time. He probably feed her the notion that Ahmir would 'come back' in another pregnancy and that their family remained. Maybe he thought he was being the man of the family, helping his family rebound by publically stating that they would perservere--in the hopes that it would come to fluition. They were mourning differently, it sounds like. He in denial(and using some spiritual belief in reincarnation). Her in deep acceptance. Maybe he was just as much of a child about this loss than she was--maybe more so..

If Wendy and Lisa or anybody from before 1990 wrote a book, nobody would care and i'm pretty sure they wouldn't be mad. That's an assumption just from being around here for a few years. But because it was somebody that was actually married to Prince, lived with him, created a child with him, and wasn't from the 80's it's an issue.
Exactly.
Dez Dickerson's book is literally called My Time With Prince.
I don't see anyone wondering where the money goes from the books he's sold. And neither should they, because it's his story.
And this book is Mayte's story.
I will admit off the bat that I'm one of those "stans" that someone mentioned who has an issue because I wasn't his wife; so maybe my response/opinion is cloudy (don't think so though), but my objection/concern is the timing: why didn't she write this book while he was still alive? Why agree to have it released in April?
The excerpts don't seem to paint him in a negative light to you (i.e. he wouldn't let her have the amnio) with her being presented as just a powerless person going along with whatever he said? For the general pubic who isn't on the org, and are just hearing these accounts, Prince will indeed come across poorly (in my opinion), and there is no way that in a marriage everything is only one person's fault. Finally, I think it's vastly different to have a book written by an ex-spouse vs ex band members. |

these kinds of things are going to happen, Prince fans are just going to have to get thicker skin. As a fan of many great men, people do come out with stuff that makes them look bad, oftentimes it's just sensationalism and to make a buck. I'm reminded of one of Elvis' stepbrothers making a revelation sometime around 90 that Elvis committed suicide, irony of ironies, the author of the worst muckraking book ever done on elvis said in an interview that it was time for them to get a real job and stop living off of Elvis. I don't know, i'm not too bothered by any of it because I've seen it all before. Now, the Malcolm x bio by Manning Marable? that one still has me pissed. |

Well, I'm going to be bold enough to admit what you said applies to me
When Prince arrived on the scene, Prince and WB knew EXACTLY how to get a teen girl to fall head over heels in love/lust with him and had it not been for New Jack Swing and that crazy ATWIAD album, I would have purchased mass amounts of Ambi, along with an endless supply of virgin Brazilian hair and made my way to MPLS. Again- this book had a release date last year. I'm quite sure the publishers changed it to coincide with the anniversary of Prince's passing. It happens ALL THE TIME. Mayte would have had no say so in that matter.
Again- why wait till now to write it? Confidentiality agreement. Do you think that besides a pre-nup that she didn't also have to sign the lovely, bright and shiny confidentiality agreement that anyone close to Prince had to sign?
If you're angry at Mayte for this book THEN DON'T BUY IT! SIMPLE! |

Dying to know who you're talking about in the bolded? Also, I guess "Painting like Picasso" is Robin? Starting the church, Robia? but who is Sharon?
Sharon Nelson. She was trying to resurrect the "jazz" in her voice with Londell as representation. Autotune failed miserably so she had to reduce her tracks to just "instrumentals". I think you know who ran to the church.
Oh. Did not know this- thank you! |

LOL LOL. In all honesty we all would've back in the day! I feel for Mayte. I don't know if I could've stood up to him, buuuuut, when he had my baby cremated after taking him off life support and later burned his ashes along with my stuff, I would've kicked his lil ninja a**! |

I haven't read the entire thread; but are people really "angry"? From what I have read, it seems that people are just having discussions and voicing their opinions. And I'm not an attorney, but how could a confidentiality agreement prohibit her from writing a book about HER life. She could have written a book about her life without mentioning Prince at all; what type of confidentiality agreement would prohibit her from writing the story of how SHE gave birth to a baby who passed? Like someone else mentioned she could have written a book and been an advocate all these years for this condition; and she could have done this without mentioning Prince what so ever. Maybe someone who has a law degree and experience with confidentiality agreements could shed some insight. [Edited 3/17/17 16:53pm] |
