Grievin' or groovin'?

So, how you gonna mark the day? Avoid it or embrace it? Somber or celebratory? In solitude or with kindred spirits? No doubt, everybody will find their own way.

I posted my plans for April 21 in the hopes that others too might be inspired to rise out of their grief and do something to help someone else. The Mods saw fit to move it to the Fan Gatherings forum, not exactly what I had in mind... But maybe you'll check it out?

Celebration always. Will be up at the Celebration so with peeps. I'm afraid they'll make it sad though...I'd rather they not...

If I remember correctly, my band will be playing a show somewhere that night. I'll definitely be jamming to Prince in the car on the way to/from the show, though, groovin' away the sadness. Last year, I drew his symbol on the back of my hand before a show I played very shortly after he passed away, I'll probably do this same this year.

It'll just be a day like any other and I'll try to be groovin' like any other day. I'm pretty sure I'll give it a thought because it'll be the first anniversary, but on the other hand I didn't think "oh it's P's birthday" every June 7th, so I'll probably not think about it every April 21st. I'm groovin' on P's music on a regular basis, his music is part of my daily life and will always be.

I hope to have the day off work. Watch a few concerts I think. Definitely feel it should be to celebrate him. A whole year. He ain't coming back. We and life go on - so much the richer for having had the little guy in it! If we can get over to
Manchester maybe visit the mural and have a moody woodbine outside the academy.
.
What're your plans then that are so shocking that mods needed to move them?

Groovin for sure...but haven't decided exactly what to do yet. I want one extra-special day a year to celebrate him more than normal. I'm almost positive he would have wanted people to celebrate his passing rather than his birthday.

So...I'm thinking: (1) the day should be all vegetarian; (2) should include music and dancing; and (3) should include giving to others in some way.

I would love to read what other people are thinking of doing.

I miss you my friend --jj, me, and many others

Oh, nothing much. Just a dusk till dawn ping-pong marathon fundraiser. Six sponsored teams playing through the night, rockin' to the music, proceeds donated to Autism Canada.starfish pancakes and coffee in the morning before we go home to bed. I thought he might have liked that.😉

Definitely groovin.

I don't mean to be morbid but as a lifelong Prince fan I've ALWAYS said, the day he dies I'm literally just going to stop whatever I'm doing and drive and blast the hell out of his music. And that's exactly what I did last year, albeit I couldn't exactly leave work, but afterwards...

You know, I set up a thing last year at Amoeba Records in LA. I met a few people and we took it from there. It actually ended up being a really cool night of barhopping together, so this year I think I'll do the same and try to get a get together going. I think every year from now on April 21 is my own personal holiday. A day to reflect but a day to celebrate his music and his genius.

Embrace it, by groovin

I cannot get to the PP event, so I'm going to have some Prince fan friends over

I have a bunch of images (Prince/band) I'm going to put into the many frames I have and display them, along with all the cd/albums I have, and get a bunch of purple music playlist ready

"Let the dead bury the dead". I'll be groovin' and celebratin'. I miss him horribly, but I can't bring him back by wallowing in sorrow. There's joy in the morning!

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I don't believe in anniverary's. If something or someone is special to me, I don't need a 365 day cycle to remind me of that.

Boy, you nailed that one in an unintended way. Every month on the 21st, fans are burning black candles at midnight, lighting some sandalwood incense, and playing "Sometimes It Snows in April".

I'm all...

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Taking the day off to groove, but it will be an emotional day nonetheless, so I can't promise there won't be grieving. I have no idea what the day will bring...

StopIt

This 365, but not publicly dramatic.

And the whole April...

-or 21st...

-or snow...

-or rainbows...

-or proteges....

-or slathering lavendar...

-or staring at collectibles....

-or other OCD fixations publicly aired are So Not him.

Sucks, but it's as bad every day, so carry on in a productive manner he'd approve of instead.
