Prince #13 artist hip-hop / rnb of all time

http://www.billboard.com/articles/events/greatest-of-all-time/7702136/rb-hip-hop-temptations-michael-jackson-mary-j-blige-all-time

Not very good.

MJ is at #5 in solo and #16 with his brothers, so he should be #1 overall.

Strange because on the top of the article, it says "For the first time, Billboard has compiled extensive all-time chart recaps of R&B/hip-hop music, ranking the genre's top artists, songs and albums over the past six decades (see chart methodology below)."

Well I certainly don't consider Prince hip hop and there are others who are more pure R&B. Prince defies genre classification in my opinion.

Wasn't it the topic about the fact that Prince ranked something like #10 in the last decade of the best seller in the rnb genre ? . http://prince.org/msg/7/413373 .

This is the 1st time ever that Billboard does the charts I just posted.

well ... given that prince didn't like hip-hop and did everything not to be labeled with RnB ... #13 of all time in that category sounds fair 2 me lol

Prince didn't like hip hop? Is that serious or a joke?

Sometimes it seems like Prince's longest "relationship" seemed to be with Doug E Fresh (hip hop pioneer). I lost count how many times I've been to a Prince concert where Doug E Fresh wasn't Prince's hype-man/lead-in. Prince certainly seemed to enjoy Public Enemy (Chuck D at least) and Jam Master J (Run DMC).

Maybe the joke just went over my head. Sorry.

--Wow this backs up what I said on another topic. Prince was black and he certainly was an RnB artist. He had a hugh influence on RnB music. At one time the Minneapolis sound had the entire Top Ten if the RnB charts.

-He worked with Dougie Fresh, Public Enemy, Mobb Depp, was going to work the Game. Always had RnB cuts on his albums. I honestly think some of you need to come into reality Prince was black.

I'm guessing that you never saw Prince jamming with Kendrick Lamar then. Dunno where you can still see it but it was supercool.

This is a compiling chart from 1958 (incidentally the birth year of Prince)...Do you really think there was hip hop in 1958 ? Do you really think the Temptations were a hip hop band ?

This compiling chart is mainly about rnb, soul, and everything that is black music.

silly me err I thought those emoticons are meant to help clearifying ones intention where plain text could fail ... so lol would help taking things not too serious ...

jokes aside: I'm so tired of all that complaing around here ... every day a bunch of new threads where ppl complain and critisize ... either prince didn't meet their expectations and there4 failed ... or the world doesn't honor him in the exact way ppl expected and there4 failed ... or other fans don't behave like others expected ... most of the time I just ignore all of that but sometimes I'm in the mood 2 give that negativity a break ... or give it at least a try ... my post might have been a little provoking but it wasn't all wrong ... just think about it if u will ... wink

btw that chart is nothing 2 take too serious as well ... hip-hop in 1958? aretha franklin hip-hop? or the temptations? just 2 name 2 ... and hip-hop and RnB is one big pot 2 put in all black artist, yes? eyepop

Sigh, Hip-Hop like it or not is a part of RnB music from the time that Rapper Delite came along on the Rnb chart came along to today. They are not going to leave Hip-Hop off because the compliling started in 1958.

Titles for Billboard charts have changed over the years.
