Is the 1984 version of Possessed with vocals circulating?

Yes.

.

Sadly, no. But it is in the possession of some 'elite' collectors; therefore it is no rarer than, say, the average Blast from the Past x.x material at this point, which is likely the case for most of what is documented from the studio on PrinceVault.

Huh? What do you mean "sadly, no" and then saying it's no rarer than stuff on Blast From The Past?

It's out there. I have it.

If it's on boot comps like that, then it's circulating, right?

.

What I mean to say is that the track is only very slightly beyond being shaken from the purple tree, already long in the hands of better connected collectors, but the track is no rarer in that respect that many recent leaks of narrowly circulated tracks, some of which made up the BFTP releases as a point of reference. As compared to things so deeply Vaulted or obscure virtually no one on the outside knows of their existence. They could put it out there anytime they wanted, and they have less incentive to be protective in the face of official estate releases, but they still hold back.

.

BTW, not to cast aspersions on my renewed faith in humanity, but I seriously doubt anyone steals something online and then actually buys it, too.

I do so all the time. Release dates are functions of marketing - if I can hear a record early, I will. Chances are I've already pre-ordered the LP, or I pick it up on release day.

Sure, listen to it. But I will remain forever doubtful that anyone downloads a full album, decides they like it, and then purchases what they already have stolen.

About the only way I can see that happening are those few people who are going to buy a physical copy (LP usually) because they actually collect stuff.

I did that even with 4ever!
I have paid for all the music I own that is available commercially (I.e., all of my music apart from Prince's bootlegs, and I'll pay for each and every one of them if they become available).

Andf that was a bunch of BS since the first press release in 2014 had already mentioned unreleased music. Why would WBR agree to a remaster of PR without a bunch of bonus tracks and then just hand them his master recording rights (and NO, "the law said they had to" is a bunch of baloney as well)?

Obviously Prince just gave WB an remastered version of the very same Purple Rain album that was already in stores. We know this was the case because Prince directly said it in an interview, and on twitter. Also this may have been the main reason why WB refused to release it because it was an breach of their agreement of it including unreleased music.

Seems like a plausible track list, and one I'd personally be happy with. No track list would ever be perfect, there'll always be things missing that any individual would like to have seen on there.

I'm hoping that list is fake. Why? I'm hoping that whole rehearsal of his 1984 Birthday Concert is remastered on CD. Prince was on an whole other level of being unearthly during that performance. His 19 minute version of "Neon Rendezvous" is still my alltime favorite Prince song/performance! Also his guitar solo on "Something in the Water Does Not Compute" was like listening to running water. He was playing so lightning fast, and flawless. In fact the bootleg for this called, "Neon Rendezvous" is the Holy Grail for Prince music. To have Neon Rendezvous with the Hallway extended version of Computer Blue would be more than enough to make the Remaster Deluxe set soething truly special. In fact, it's all I ever wanted.

The song is called "Noon Rendezvous," not "Neon Rendezvous". (The bootleg of the Birthday rehearsal is called "Neon Rendezvous".)

And WB would never put the Birthday show on the PR reissue, much less a rehearsal for it. But don't let that affect your enjoyment of either!

I'm going by the tracklisting of the song, and it's called "Neon Rendezvous". I know it's the same song on Shelia E's album (The Glamourous Life) called "Noon Rendezvous", but everytime I enountered the version with Prince on the vocals it's called Neon instead of Noon. Lastly, I don't know how or why you're so confident on what WB would or won't add to the PR box set, since none of us (other than WB) has an clue to what gonna be added. (besides the remastered version of the PR album, which is an given)

The tracklisting on your bootleg is wrong. All you have to do is listen to the lyrics (or check Princevault) to get that the song is called "Noon Rendezvous".

As for my prediction about WB and the reissue, time will tell.

I will happily share a meal with you, particularly if someone else is paying!
To get things back on topic, having thought about it for a couple of days, if this were to be the final track list, it would be a bit underwhelming.
Nothing to object to the DVDs - the First Avenue show was always a must and it will be great to have it in good quality (and hopefully someone will rip the sound and I'll have it in perfect sound quality in my playlists...). The other DVD I'll judge when I watch it, but I've never seen any gigs from that era, so I won't have anything to compare it to.
Disc one is of course the original album (as it should be, in all of its perfect awesomeness from start to finish). Disc two would be a major disappointment. We already have the B sides with decent sound, Let's go crazy Special Dance Mix is excellent but was released as part of Ultimate, and I don't need The Time, Dez and Apollonia in a Prince album. I assume that I Would Die 4U is not going to be the 30 minutes version, so that might be interesting. And if we get an extended version of 17 Days, it would redeem it a bit. Now, if the final four tracks in disc two were to feature Prince vocals, then it would all be a different matter... That would really make this set for me!
And about disc 3, we'll have to wait and see. I don't know anything about two of the tracks (three, if Phonecall is an actual song). The alternative takes of songs from the album was to be expected, but do we really need two Computer Blues? I think I have about seven versions of that song already! And of course, I can't wait to get Electric Intercourse, Father's Song, Mama, Wednesday and Love and Sex. Traffic Jam is great, and it would be even greater if there was a version with vocals - I don't know whether such thing exists, though.
In the end, as exciting as it is, we wouldn't be getting a lot of new music if this were to be the final track list, so hopefully it won't be. And just one final thing: each of the five discs would include a version of Let's Go Crazy.

I know, but I am just about to spend quite lot of money in it (told you!), so it would be nice if it's really worth it! In the long term I assume we will get pretty much everything, but it would be nice if this set was somethign really special (don't get me wrong, Electric Intercourse on its own would make any set special, but there's so much more that we could get...)

Why indeed, it always seemed a likely reason for why they didn't release it on 2014. What they wanted and what prince provided were clearly at odds. For those of us who enjoy latter day Prince music we at least got Art Official Age.

It's up to you all what you would like to include in the album. If I were to work for WB I would try to include some songs that aren't personal tracks but include ones that aren't the same songs over and over.
I do like the idea of concert series songs so great job on that.

Sadly, no. But it is in the possession of some 'elite' collectors; therefore it is no rarer than, say, the average Blast from the Past x.x material at this point, which is likely the case for most of what is documented from the studio on PrinceVault. It's said to have an 'All Day, All Night'-ish spoken-rather-than-sung before breaking into the chrous approach to the vocals. It's also been alleged in Possessed, of all places, if I recall the source correctly, that P plays the harp on the song, but I believe it is the DX7, which he had just received a few weeks before (and inaugurates into his musical world on 'Love and Sex' and 'When Doves Cry'). It profits greatly from its close proximity in recording time to WDC (about 16 days later) in its wickedly effected/flanged Linn programming; he was still in the moment.

.

.

To his credit, Neon Rendezvous is the the title of the bootleg (perhaps the most famous of them from back in the salad days) on which this rehearsal performance was to be found (a higher quality soundboard source of it has been more recently leaked).

.

To be realistic, this rehearsal performance would be obscure and of little consequence in P's and now the Estate's worldviews, and it won't be making the track list of official release in the foreseeable future, or (most likely) ever.

.

A pristine 24-track of it certainly exists in the Vault, however.

.

That detract from its breathtaking guitar work, nor that it managed to capture a perfect slice of the Purple Rain era and that 1984 time period in general.

.

It was most likely also videotaped, but not part of the [Big Chick-] leaked Warehouse black-and-white rehearsal footage for the Birthday Show, for whatever reason (held back by bootleggers, more than likely).

.
