I have been looking into purchasing a CD copy of it and found a near mint at €24.99, which is not too bad except I would rather spend (a bit) more and get a new/unopened copy... Decisions decisions. [Edited 3/4/17 3:31am] Life Matters

Probably my all time favorite 12" extended vinyl. I have all of these extended 12" records in a box somewhere and it reminds me I better find them and take better care of them.

The near mint appears on Discogs and the 'brand new' on Amazon UK, probably a boot I would expect. There's also a 'Collectible, Like New' one. How can one tell the genuine from the fake amongst all of these? [Edited 3/4/17 15:57pm] Life Matters

...and if I remember correctly the b-side is Scarlet Pussy. It's a rather long version, but don't know if there was an edited version of it for the regular vinyl single. Andway, I think love the 12" and think he abandoned this playful funky sound way too quickly. Both tracks added levity to the mostly serious Lovesexy record.

That's funny, I think of Lovesexy as this bright colorful playful sound where taste goes out the door in favor of crazy energy and spastic sounds... but this 12" mix gets all serious and dark with the mix (after the dance beat version of the song), and very disciplined with the arranagment. Almost Black Album type of control. And the pimpish character at the end is funny but also sounds quite mean and a bit evil. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I always thought of lovesexy as one of the stiffest and unimaginative golden era records. Whereas Alphabet St (especially this remix) breaking free and being loose and playful and funny. I think both side A and B are hilarious. Very loose, fun and hilarious. I don't think can attribute that to the album though. Sure the sounds are bright, but it's not a fun loose whimsical record like this extended vinyl.

PS: I also love the Aplhabet St. Remix and feel the same way that it also frees itself it up from the relative stiffness of Lovesexy compared to the 12" mixes. [Edited 3/6/17 6:13am]

Isn't this kind of the purpose of most 12" though, to wander off a main (time restricted) track and explore the music further? Life Matters

Isn't this kind of the purpose of most 12" though, to wander off a main (time restricted) track and explore the music further? I meant in comparison to his other golden era music. It's the beginning where he's starting to veer towards that ultra bright almost silly 90's era. You can see hints if it. What I love about these 12's with scarlet pussy, & escape, is hearing his "out-there" looseness, humor, and rawness that was a staple of his older work. Little by little his work became stiffer and more self constrained. Whether it be for commercial reasons or artistic reasons, or both, Lovesexy certainty points in the direction of his 90's work and though I love it, it is my least favorite golden era records. It has a bright polished stiffness that all his previous work does not. In my opinion. [Edited 3/6/17 7:34am]

I always interpreted this 12" mix as the heavenly attitude going off the rails into the dark wicked funky mood and persona of "Take this Beat", with a little midnight church revival in the middle. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I'm listening to all the Lovesexy extended versions and B-sides and they are so amazingly creative and loose. They point to what might have been a far looser and rawer and funner album. These tracks have actually faired better with time than the actual album tracks. The Album to me sounds very restrained, blazing bright and dated. (I always thought the cheap sounding bright Casio keyboards on Anastasia harmed such a beautiful track) Whereas these extended tracks and B's sound so fresh and amazing.
His music before the 90's was so rich, deep and warm regardless of the fidelity or recording techniques that it makes my suspicions of a certain amount of hearing loss all the more indicative. His soundscapes were so meticulously put together since the beginning so it's all the more obvious something happened. Hearing loss a a job related injury to that industry. I doubt many people in the music industry especially back then fared well regarding their hearing. [Edited 3/11/17 7:56am]

I was absolutely floored as a teenager when I first heard this 12". Bought the vinyl and really was thinking WTF could an extended version of I Wish U Heaven contain? It's a very short track that I loved, but in no way could I have guessed all the directions this thing could go. As others have said, that was the joy of Prince's 12" singles. None were throwaways, and he treated them all with care and creativity no matter their commercial appeal. Who could have taken a song like this and then worked in lyrics about peeing in the back yard, sleeping on a roof, pleated slacks, peace sign stickers, why didn't you feed the white dove I gave you, and "don't fuck with me?" Only Prince. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

I posted this song in "What Prince song do you have on your mind today?" forum, because the melody gets stuck in your head with an ear worm! When I listen to this song, I prefer the extended version. The video has so much to look at too, it's like discovering something new each time it's viewed!

I Wish U Heaven is one of my top 5 Prince tracks and I really like this remix too. But, I hope there is an actual extended/12'' version of Part 1 tucked away in the Vault that'll be released one day. The Sampler Set is great!

Finally got the time to look it up. Listening to it now. I had forgotten it was a 3". Just like the alphabet street mix. I remember that back in the days i wondere if scarlet pussy was part 3 as it is not mentioned on the notes anywhere on the disc, nor where the lyrics. Other theory was that it was part 1 and part 3 was missing....

There are different 'remix' versions of this song, the one I have (on vinyl) that I am referring to in this thread is the 12" extended remix which lasts '10:Something' (as labelled) in which you could definitely hear 3 distinct parts, although they are musically linked together. Scarlet Pussy is the B side. Life Matters

I'm late on this. I purchased one from Amazon.uk and it it was the 3 inch sealed. Looked genuine to me. I'm not sure how easy or viable it is in this day and age to make a bootleg 3 inch CD single anyway. Some people are genuine and do sell for a decent price. Third time I've owned this. Two vinyls and now (I believe) the CD.
