It's really crystal clear that this week coming up is going to be extremely difficult for me to get through on my own. So I am making this thread now, so that there is a SAFE SPACE for me to come to, as I need it and I want it open to any and everyone else that needs it as well.

Now as far as the song that inspired this post...I was 9 years old when I first heard it. And real talk...I totally believed Prince, right then and there.

Looking back now, in hindsight, over the 38 years since...this was actually the first song that made me smile and honestly feel good about listening to Prince's music again, since his departure from this realm because I got to see it...play out...in real time.And what it became...good...bad...and otherwise. nod

The Beautiful One mushy I remember thinking when this picture out that I hadn't seen that fire in his eyes for a long time. It was a beautiful sight. sigh

I was 10 yrs old when I saw the Promo 45 in Audrey & Del's Wrecka Stow in Buffalo, NY (My Hometown). Bought it for 50 cents (even though They were "Not For Sale"). And THAT was My introduction to Prince!! I mean, "Soft And Wet" was on the radio. But THIS was the Song that got Me!!

"Ooh Baby, Your place or Mine?/I'll get the Music, Baby. You bring the Wine!!" Straight GAME!!!

Oh my goodness thank you all for this wonderful thread! Brought me to tears. I was listening to this song today for the first time in a while and I can't describe what joy it brought to me! I hope he knows how much his work means to all of us and what it can do for us! heart heart heart

Love that Song! I found it so cool that even early on he was doing the songs with longer jams that actually took you somewhere. This was something that blew my mind! I will say that I did not get the album until maybe 85. (before that I was under the watchful eye of a tattle tail older brother). So I had a few singles as early as 1980...and I had Controversy...until by bro showed it to mom... it was the last song that did me it!

anyway: It is a shame that he did not do it more live. I have one version at the Atl Rick James show.... it is worth checking out/
