Moonbeam said: OK, so I was a bit of a dork and went through all of Prince's songs on Spotify and made a spreadsheet of the stream counts, to get a sense of what songs are popular and to see if there are any surprises. Here is a link so that you can have a look. Wow! Interesting stat. Not surprised to see Purple Rain song at #1 and the other songs in the top 10 other than Stare, which surprised me 2 c at #5. Keep us updated! I've been tracking the Prince followers on Spotify. Yesterday, there were over 116K and 2day, over 334K followers-- more than twice the followers from yesterday. We'll see how fast we get to a million followers! [Edited 2/13/17 18:49pm] "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

I want CD's. I'm old school. But I finally caved and signed up for Tidal because I want his music that I don't have yet, before it disappears again. Still hoping for proper physical copies one day. I love getting a new record/cd. I love fighting with the packaging - it's so rewarding when you finally break that sucker open I love combing thru the booklets, reading every word, lingering over every picture. It's bliss. I love putting the disc in a player and not having to juggle my phone constantly, or freak out about a dead battery looming. I love ripping the tracks to my PC and having the freedom to add them to whatever devices I choose. But I digress. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Leopard52 said: Ok. I'm new to any downloading besides iTunes. Do you have to pay a monthly fee to download/but from Spotify and Tidal?? Spotify has a free version and a paid version. Try the free version first to see if you like it. The main differences between them is the free one only lets you skip about 4 songs per day. And you have to listen to commercials every so often like on the radio. But I advise anyone who is open to new music to download the app bacause what it does so well is let you explore the entire music spectrum instead of just what you already know and like. You can create lists, and play those lists. For example one list can be only the slow Prince songs you like. Or it can be the entire Parade album. And another can be new songs you just encountered. At first, like anything it may seem difficult because it's different. We all suffer from being scared of change. But if you give it a fair shot, the changed one is going to be you.

What's the difference? My Spotify tells me it's the 12" version and it sounds like it to me, although I haven't gone and compared them.

Some of the Parade tracks are weird: "Girls & Boys" isn't playing for me at all, and "Mountains" is a live version! Is this the same for others? Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Eh what? Did you import your library into the Spotify app on your desktop maybe? I'm seeing the same problems as were always there on the digital catalogue for this album (wrong version of Kiss and a MASSIVE VOLUME JUMP on Girls & Boys) but nothing as odd as that. [Edited 2/13/17 20:22pm]

Exactly.Since he didn't leave a will, things aren't gonna go exactly as he would have wanted. If he had a will and willed his publishing to someone they could have turned around and sold it all. Having a will means it is being left in the hands of the person you want it left in. It does not stop that person from doing what they want with property. If he had will this music could have still ended up on streaming platforms. I also think some of you think Prince had something against streaming he did not he just wanted to be compensated. I hope you also understand that when this deal ends his family members can take this stuff off.

I already have cd's and vinyls too. But i'm listening to P on Spotify right now. Just to support him in every single way.
Hopefully someday they will add the rest of his catalog, all his post-Come albums should be available sooner or later.

No problems at all, Girls & Boys plays fine. And Mountains is the studio version, at least in my country no issues at all

What I want to know is.. when will the Prince penned tracks reappear on albums from other artists? For example I Feel For You is not accessible on the Chaka Khan 1984 album and there are other numerous examples..

Something must have happened, because the songs play fine on my Phone! I don't recall importing anything into the Spotify app, but perhaps I did.
I'm playing Prince on Spotify to support the estate (however few the pennies may be), but stuff like this makes me want to stick with my trust old CDs. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Maximum exposure. Contemporary Bach fans would not have been happy had his remaining unheard material been consigned to the dustbin. But for Mendelssohn and a few others, that would have remained their fate. And actually, when you think about it, the digital avenues are the perfect way to release as much new P material as possible. Restricted to CD release only, it would be a very slow trickle process, based more on profit/loss than other considerations. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

(BTW, I don't use streaming services at all, I strongly dislike the entire music streaming business model.) Well radio is the same kind of free, and so is traditional television and we call that free. And the quality is better than both. You can even go to settings and get higher quality if you like. The punt being, yes you can watch something on IMAX and it will look better than your big screen Tv(thought those new 4K TBD are pretty good) and you can find a nice quiet room and put a hi fi stereo in it. Point being, your snobbery misguided. People listen in headphones in a noisy gym, in a noisy car, in a noisy work place, mass transit and in a noisy living room. All while wearing headphones mostly. And if you do have a nice home theater set-up at home like I do, most tv's support Spotify and all the streaming services and they sound great. And lastly, depending on how old you are, your hearing is not the best anymore probably couldn't couldn't hear what you snob about anyhow.

. LOL How old are you? It's natural to lose your hearing. Especially what types of work and concerts going habits. When was the last time your hearing was checked? Unless you are a teen or young adult who has really protected your hearing, I bet it's not as good as you think. I've seen videos where snobs with expensive gear are easily fooled into buying expensive gear with gold plated connections only to see they can't tell the difference between a cheap set-up under prime controled conditions much less under real-world conditions.
