The Associated Press is reporting that starting today, Sunday, Feb. 12, Prince's Warner Brothers material will be available on all streaming services. Also, they are reporting June 9th as the release date for a remastered "Purple Rain," "as well as two albums of unreleased music and two concert films from his Paisley Park vault."

Why is The Stick missing from The Time album? That is their best song.

The Stick has always been missing from Spotify, and Tidal and everywhere else, God knows why. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just an uncorrected clerical error.

i was streaming the sign o the times album & out of nowhere 'if i was your girlfriend' ends & 'strange relationship' from one night alone live comes on! super weird, has anyone else noticed this?

why would that one song be the live version ?

I haven't streamed Prince much before, so forgive me for the noobie question.

Does anyone know if the fade-out to "1999" was there when the album was on Spotify years ago? It totally spoils the explosion segue into "Little Red Corvette". Is it the same with the Tidal stream?

It was yeah. Single edits of Kiss and I Would Die 4 U on the albums as well. I'm fairly sure these errors have been consistent over all streaming from day 1, including Tidal, although I'm no longer a subscriber there so I can't check.

Darkroman,

Seems like we're the only ones who are morally vexed about this. Yes, it doesn't matter because what's done is done, but WE ALL KNOW PRINCE WOULD NOT WANT THIS. Does that not count for anything around here?

OK, so I was a bit of a dork and went through all of Prince's songs on Spotify and made a spreadsheet of the stream counts, to get a sense of what songs are popular and to see if there are any surprises. Here is a link so that you can have a look.

The top 50 most popular Prince songs (combining streams from different sources) have been:

[1] Purple Rain: 25291780
[2] Kiss: 24919273
[3] When Doves Cry: 17477021
[4] I Wanna Be Your Lover: 12319640
[5] Stare: 10075086
[6] Little Red Corvette: 10057228
[7] 1999: 9488914
[8] Raspberry Beret: 9399210
[9] Let's Go Crazy: 7158636
[10] I Would Die 4 U: 6805966
[11] Sign o' the Times: 3981413
[12] Cream: 3638503
[13] Diamonds and Pearls: 3314772
[14] U Got the Look: 2685220
[15] Nothing Compares 2 U: 2620466
[16] Gett Off: 2532092
[17] Funknroll: 2389694
[18] Darling Nikki: 2299445
[19] Controversy: 2112405
[20] U Know: 1973286
[21] Alphabet St.: 1916203
[22] The Beautiful Ones: 1908985
[23] Breakfast Can Wait: 1901186
[24] This Could Be Us: 1812824
[25] Breakdown: 1640117
[26] Sexy MF: 1596619
[27] Adore: 1571300
[28] Erotic City: 1548840
[29] If I Was Your Girlfriend: 1496769
[30] When You Were Mine: 1468289
[31] Take Me With U: 1437298
[32] Clouds: 1430134
[33] Thieves in the Temple: 1420419
[34] Pop Life: 1412503
[35] 7: 1404410
[36] Money Don't Matter 2 Night: 1397746
[37] Baby I'm a Star: 1390905
[38] I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man: 1363469
[39] Do Me, Baby: 1273098
[40] Delirious: 1179770
[41] Uptown: 1118625
[42] I Feel for You: 1094371
[43] Computer Blue: 1028574
[44] Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad: 928798
[45] Art Offical Cage: 843677
[46] Sexy Dancer: 777163
[47] Dirty Mind: 760128
[48] The Gold Standard: 728744
[49] Sometimes It Snows in April: 689678
[50] Head: 685658

Some surprises:

More streams for "Nothing Compares 2 U" than songs like "Controversy" "Gett Off", and "Alphabet St.".

"The Beautiful Ones" and "Darling Nikki" outstreaming the single "Take Me With U"

"Erotic City" outstreaming some of the album tracks on Purple Rain, and "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" doubling the stream count of some songs on 1999, and "She's Always in My Hair" outstreaming almost all songs on Around the World in a Day

The weird disparity in the songs on Art Official Age, and that "Way Back Home" and "Affirmation III" are the least streamed from that album!

"Stare" with 10 million plus streams!

Prince is dead. No one knows what he would have was decided was important this week if he was alive and had struck the right deal. He might have found some chick on youtube to do his deals for him.The best they can do now is treat it as professionally as possible, they can't put on a gig to raise money everytime it was needed like he could.

Interesting.

Stare has been the one track that has been on Spotify the whole time so since
April, anyone searching Prince had only that to play which would explain its high count.

Yeah my popular list hasn't updated yet, still only has Stare at 10 million.

I'm not sure what to make of them having Purple Rain as "artist's pick" though.

Yes, they are giving the music away at a steal so please stop saying big dollars are coming to the estate. Prince was probaly making more money the way he was doing things and yes I realize he is not around anymore but really please realize that this is not the big financial bonaza for the estate that some are making it out to be.

with the risk of sounding incredibly stupid:

I played FUNKNROLL from spotify, through my Hifi installation yesterday, expecting the deep zooming bass...... song started.. awaiting bass.... and ..... it wasn't there !!

First thought: Bass Unit is damaged, blown up or disconnected, but all of a sudden later in the song it appeared.. played in on studio headphones as well, same result.. is it an alternate mix or ..?

artist development has been dead. streaming is great forr artists - it helps cut out the middle men. its nott perfect and everyone will not see the success chance the rapper has seen, but its a step in a good direction. the industry couldnt get it together

Artist development is Youtube now. Get a following in music, make-up application, or whatever and that's today's artist development.
Very democratic.

yeah i mean basically lol the one thing that sucks about the new system though, all jokes aside, is that artists resources are severly limited due to not having label dollars. on the flip side im sure it will ultimately allow more artists to see more of their $ up front w

Most artist are not independent so they are getting killed on royalties because of streaming.

Chance was smart to go independent and notice how the music came up on him when he started talking about it.
