Romeoblu

Why has his moved to. The third page?

Surely the full song should be shared now knowing it's in the hands of bootleggers.

I get that no one wants to "out" their source. That was probably only (or mostly) a factor when Prince was alive. He could know that he only gave a song to one person, and if it leaks it's obvious who leaked it. But that really is no longer the case.

I dont really get the concern about someone else making money off something. If people want to pay for something, let them. All you can do is put it out there as widely as possible. If Eye Records or whoever else is funding terrorists with the money they make off Prince bootlegs - well then maybe that is a concern. Other than that, the only concern would be "why are they making money instead of me?" Then sell it yourself. "I dont want to make money off his music." Then don't sell it.

The mentality of keeping outtakes to yourself just to prevent someone else from making money off of it I just can't fully justify. You didn't write the lyrics or play the instruments, so who made you keeper of the sacred music? There are many thousands who would get great joy from hearing this stuff, but the "idea" of someone ELSE making some money off it makes someone withhold it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just sharing my opinion. No one is obligated to "release" their outtakes. I have/had some material that was rare, and I wanted to trade it for uncirculating material with the intent of getting more material in wide circulation. Most everyone was so guarded and petty I just gave up. I'll put my stuff out to wide circulation when I can. The only thing stopping me at this point is a lack of technical know-how and a severe shortage of time to figure it out. I will also admit that having something that no one else has does give a feeling of being "special" and privileged. But really, its bullshit. I'm not special because I have this material, just lucky. I've always been a bit frustrated that people are withholding material out of this "privileged" (some call it "elite") mentality, but I've come to understand it since I felt it too.

That said, if I put out my material and Eye Records or whoever turns around and makes a ton of money off it... I would be mildly jealous and wish that I could have made that money instead of them, to be honest. I have bills and money struggles like everyone else. But... I don't want to get into legal trouble for selling something that I don't own the rights to. If someone else wants to put themselves in that danger, that's up to them.

This is not directed to Militant or anyone else. I'm very grateful for everything that has been shared throught the years. It would be very easy to just keep all info to ones self and let that stuff collect dust in a drawer somewhere and be the only one to ever hear it. Sharing info and material takes effort and some level of risk, so those who do anything should be applauded.

True & Thanks. clapping clapping

After a month Eye releases it, it's going to be out for everyone, so it's not going to be "sacred" anymore, and a lot of people are going to be excited talking about it. Some frustrated, some in aw about the new material. And that's one of the reasons I come here, to read what people have to say about the stories they know about the songs. I've really learned a lot about P & P's music reading people's posts & I appreciate this.

Very intriguing. Even if I never get to hear the whole thing for
me This is tantalising. Didn't Questlove play it shortly after April 21st when he was DJing - so it could come from that and not necessarily mean someone within the elite had leaked it. Miss our boy so much right now. Love you peeps! Xoxox

you're probably thinking of 'emotional pump', although questlove did mention
that he'd heard wally too.

questlove's source is the same as the elite traders though.

I wish people would stop with this "elite" bullshit. Do you think these collectors go around saying "oh, I've got all these unheard tracks... l'm so elite.?"

A stupid org invention to describe someone who has something they don't for whatever reason(s).

Agreed. Let's call them 'Lucky bastards'

Taking "elite" to mean people with special access to something (property, education, power, or some other similarly valued commodity) that then is shared within that group and to which most people have no or much more restricted access... yes they're elite. That's not an org invention--it's what the word means. The collectors in question are elite only because of that access, and that's no judgment on them, and no, I don't think they (in the main) go around saying "I'm elite" (though apparently injuredpinky does think this)--but I don't think many of those with similar privilege in the real world (outside of our Princely concerns) think that either. And most of those people are, more than anything else, "lucky" as much as any other thing they might be (and quite a few might be "bastards"--but that actually does feel rude to me, and I don't want to be). But if for some reason an accurate word isn't acceptable, what do you really want to use instead? "People who have this track and other tracks circulating among a relatively few other people unified only by the fact that they also have tracks circulating among a small group of people"?

So contrary to what Susan Rogers has said all these years, "Wally" apparently wasn't totally new and written that night. That chorus that leaked is very similar to "Billy's Sunglasses" which had been played around with a couple of years before. So Prince took that idea and reworked it into "Wally". Still cool to see what he did with it, and I hope to get to hear the full track soon.

.

The claim that this song was about his now-failed relationship with Susannah seemed a bit off, as she stayed at (or at least didn't fully move out of) Galpin Blvd until February 1987. This also sounds a bit earlier recorded in the year than December 28, 1986 (around which time he would have been finishing up 'U Got the Look'). More around the time 'Everybody Got*' or 'Adonis & Bathsheba' (mid/late Summer). '101' (recorded ~January 1987) has a stronger claim to being the final breakup song than this (I'm not suggesting that it is, however).

.

do you know if the Estate/WB is planning on including Wally on any future releases? Personally I don't care if I never hear the bootleg, as long as it's made available to buy through the Estate.

The truth of that is that they don't even know what they are going to do post PR Deluxe. The Estate, put simply, is a total mess right now. The siblings are fighting with each other and with Londell. It's a huge mess and deciding which tracks and what projects to release right now is very far from their minds. It's a long road ahead before anyone figures these things out.

Agreed. Until the Estate gets its house in order bootlegs are still going to have strong appeal. This still may be our only way of hearing the material, regardless of quality.

And there is so much material, there is the distinct possibility that we may not hear all of it in our lifetimes or that many gems will remain unreleased.

I never understood all the "factory pressed" CDs debate.

What's the meaning to not share something you obtained for free with all others only to avoid that someone else make some money pressing it on a CD?!?!?!?

Just to understand, what's the meaning of "protect" a song that in P's mind would never circulate, ever?!?!? From the first guy who obtained it that song was already not protect, so "to protect from who or what"?!?

I'm not judgin' anyone, as a collector I can understand the pleasure to have access to something exclusive, absolutely.... but at the same time I can't figure how the fact the someone is ready to pay someone to have a pressed CD instead of a simple digital file can make all that difference in sharing music for free.

If you feel that strongly you should act now.
