That Xenophobia celebration in 2002 was the BEST Prince experience I´ve ever had. Incomparable to anything else I´ve experienced as far as Prince live experiences go. And I´ve seen many great Prince concerts and aftershow concerts. I still remember that 2002 celebration very vividly, especially that moment when he thanked us for sticking with him through the thick and the thin and the things he would say about his father. Great experience, absolutely unforgettable.

I miss that special kind of boost that his concerts would give me for the rest of the year, that positive energy, the anticipation before concerts, the hunt for info regarding aftershows, the energy level, everything. I saw Prince play between 45-50 times. It's very hard to think we won't see him again, but I'm extremely thankful for all of the great memories. And like others on here, the inspiration of those shows would sometimes last me for weeks and months. It was addictive no doubt about that. T | |

Yes, that is so true. I remember being on the streets of my hometown Nijmegen (NL) in front of the ticket shop with some 100 other people in the middle of the night. It was november and freezing outside, but we were waiting for the doors to open at 9 am. It was the start of the ticket sales for the Nude tour and my friend who lived in another town would go for tickets as well from where he lived. We agreed to go for three tickets (my friend and his wife and me). When the doors opened, I was almost frozen stiff and got my three tickets for June 2nd. People were fighting over their place in the cue. Ridiculous actually. I finaaly went home with my tickets and called my friend. Told him about my nightly freezing story and he answered that he got tickets as well. He just ordered them by phone  Good thing is, he got tickets for June 3rd, so we went to both shows in Rotterdam. Too bad I had to go through so much trouble for a show that ended abruptly due to heavy rain. But then again: wouldn't have missed it for the world. And yes, I miss these kind of things. I could say there were a lot of tours or gigs I wish I'd seen but that would be missing the point about how lucky I feel / felt then. Seeing him sing with Amy Winehouse now seems v poignant, and the Paisley celebrations were certainly memorable, one for the friendship and camaraderie, with another being amazing because he played for 7 nights straight (different vibe and style every night). A lot of gigs and tours I went to were talked about as not being vintage but often it was made memorable by who was there, or as someone wrote above some difficulty in getting hold of a ticket!! So many things stick in my mind, so many moments of inspiration...he was the greatest of his generation, no Q about it. T | |

T The other thing I loved was both the element of surprise but also Prince's ability to continually show people how amazing he was, when he was continually written off. I know how surprised I was during the last Hit N Run tours. The energy as he took to the stage when he played the now famous £10 Shepherds Bush gig in London...I can't think of any other artist I'm aware that could do that now. I was buzzing for days and weeks from that experience. He knew how good he was and was constantly reminding people. Even the piano and voice gigs- which sadly I missed - from what I've heard the energy is just electric. Thank u Prince. | |

Amazing. It was like Disney World and Mecca. Disney World because there was so much to see and it all seemed surreal. It's like the music you've been listening to and guy you've been watching all your life is right in front of you. You're inside the place you've only read about or seen in videos. Not to mention casually walking past people you've only seen on album covers and music videos. It was also like Mecca because there were soooo many people who are sharing something special with you. There was no fighting or arguing (as far as I could see), it was just a sea of people all sharing a spiritual connection. I look at it as one of the important events in my life. Chas | |

I remember reading the reports back in 2002 here at Prince.org, very exciting times!! This is one event that I would have liked to have attained for sure! Glad you made it to the Park and had this fantastic experience... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time... |

Back on topic, I have seen Prince in concert 8 times. To my utter delight the next year I was allowed to see Prince's "Sign O' The Times" twice, which were my first proper stadium concerts (Utrecht & Rotterdam, 1987). They were amazing experiences! * The year after I went to see the Lovesexy tour in Rotterdam in 1988, I was standing right in front of the stage which was obviously great. Unfortunately I missed the legendary aftershow ("Small Club") in my hometown The Hague as I wasn't in the know, I read about it in the papers the next morning. * I saw him again in 1990 during the Nude tour, this was my least pleasurable Prince experience. I had shitty places at the back of the stadium, it was windy and raining and I wasn't prepared for bad weather at all. Within an hour or so the show was stopped prematurely for risk of electrical shocks for the band. Bummer! * I tried to see him again in 1992 I think for Diamonds & Pearls tour. I went to the stadium without tickets, but unfortunately wasn't able to secure affordable tickets from the scalpers, so in the end I went home without seeing Prince, which obviously sucked. After that I slowly lost interest in Prince more and more and didn't see any shows until 2002 when I saw Prince for the One Nite Alone tour in Rotterdam. My interest in Prince was reawakened with the Rainbow Children album the year before, which I think is a brilliant album. The NPG was stellar around that time and so were the performances. The cool thing was that a member of Housequake.com (or maybe it was Prince.org, not sure anymore) helped me out with supplying a NPGMC ticket which gave me access to the soundcheck and front row places at the concert itself. Thanks Joseppe if you are still around these parts! * Next tour I saw was 21 Nights in London (2007), fantastic experience!! * Skip to 2011 where I saw Prince in Arnhem for his W2A shows. Again a great experience with an energetic 'hits' show including many great songs that he wrote for others like The Time, Sheila E, etc. * The next year (2012)I saw him in Rotterdam, I think again for a W2A show, but that one wasn't as great as the year before. It started of fantastic with him playing Gold, but then his guitar didn't work so Prince couldn't do the guitar solo, which was a true bummer to me. And the show was badly paced with lots of (way too long) interruptions where Prince and the band weren't on stage and we baiscally had to yell for 10/15 minutes before they came back to play one or two more songs. Sadly, only five, and three of them were in 2014 (all three shows were amazing!). After I went to the first two shows that year, when I told people I was going to see him again they always asked why I needed to see him three times in a few months. My answer was always the same: because I want to, because I can and because I don't know when I will see him again. Sadly, I was right. I wish I had gone to a few more. | |
