Albums you can't get into?

I will mention only one: The Rainbow Children.

I listen to it sometimes trying to enjoy the experience but the album doesn't do it for me.

Too many fillers, processed vocals, spiritual references, i admit the music is great, some nice tracks, but i would say it's the weakest collection of songs he has ever released.

Don't hate me RC fans lol

I just can't find the love for The Black Album that many here have mentioned. And then there is the Slaughterhouse album. Like at least significant portions of all the others though rarely play his jazz albums.

Me too.

I don't hate it, I like many things on it, but as a whole I listened to it from start to end only the day of release.

After all the hype P created for it in the months/years before, maybe my expectations were too high. But to some extent it was a delusion.

There are a couple of songs on it that I like though.

None for me. I've swam deeply in each and every Prince album, and had a ball with each of 'em.

Actually so far (but that may change) there is one exception to the above: Back In Time, but Prince was only a sideman and producer on that one, so even though I consider it part of his discography it's not a Prince album in the traditional sense of the term. I don't hate it though, but Judith' voice hurts my ears (literally, it's no metaphor!) if I play the record too loud, and I find both the compositions and P's arrangements pretty generic. On the other hand I really respect that Prince was, at long last, able to act as a real producer, not turning Judith into himself like he's done with everyone he had produced before, and thus creating a record that non-Prince fans who're into nu soul will enjoy much more than they would have enjoyed it if it had sounded more like Prince.

None! I listen to all his albums. Granted, some are much better than others, but each one of them is unique and has their own gems and style.

TRC is a musical masterpiece. Some of the lyrics are ridiculous, but the music is phenomenal.

I'm not much of a fan of Judith Hill but I do like Angel In The Dark.

On the whole of P's ouvere, I like P as a genre unto himself.

The things I like less (TonyM and a few other things), are just blips on the radar for me when I consider P's body of work as a whole, the context and events going on in P's history and world history as a whole.

It's not just a particular song/album, etc for me...It's the entirety of experiencing P's work together with my nearly 40 years of personal history as a P fan, what was going on all around me and in the Purple Bubble.

I can't seperate it all...and I wouldn't want to anyway.

Prince released a lot of albums to get out of his contract with Warner Brothers, so I'm sure he didn't use his best stuff.

I didn't put TBA on my list, but honestly, about half of the songs are really listenable.

Stuff like "Dead On It" or "Bob George" are cutesy, but they're not something one can dig into as a listener. There's not a lot going on musically. They're minimal in production, and something like "Solo" comes off as much more interesting when it comes to a minimalistic song. "2 Nigs" becomes a bit too noisy and almost needs to be on something like Camille or as a b-side to "Housequake" or "U Got The Look". Perhaps it's because we've heard it on Lovesexy more and it's perspective with the listener at this point, but "When 2 R In Love" feels out of place on the record.

TBA is not a bad record, but it lost a lot of its oomph because it was broken up on Camille, Lovesexy, etc. Still - it's higher up on my list than the others I noted.

As far as Emancipation - lotta filler. It could easily be whittled down to a disk and a half. Some of the songs are lengthened for the sake of the 60 minutes-per-disk approach. Songs like "Jam Of The Year" "Big White Mansion", "Human Body", "New World", and "Sleep Around" sound stretched for the sake of that timing, rather than having a honed in, concise song that's stronger.

N.E.W.S., Rainbow Children, Old Friends 4 Sale. These I have little to no interest in ever hearing again. There are a few more that have merely one or two redeeming songs on them, but I didn't include them as I still listen to them even if I have to skip several tracks.

I was curious if Old Friends 4 Sale would make someone's list here.

I could listen to When the Lights Go Down repeatedly and never hear it enough times. This song, in my opinion, is a gem.

My next favourite on this album is 5 Women. 3rd would be a tie between There is Lonely and the title track.

I burned a cd of Prince music for a small dinner party last week. The cd was mainly stuff that non hard core fams would know. Included on the cd was When the Lights Go Down. Everyone LOVED it. Seriously they raved about that song. They could not believe it was Prince. I wish there were more songs similar to this one.

Sorry, I guess I'm off track here.

Back to the original question, my answer would have to be none. lol

The one song on Old Friends 4 Sale I could listen to repeatedly is "Extraordinary".

The Truth is the album I never liked as much as everyone else no matter how many times I've listened to it.

Yeah same here.
And the physical CD was given to me as a surprise by a special friend. But still I hare it and actually the only Prince CD that I ever threw away.

God knows I've given it plenty of tries.

I hate a lot of his 90's albums too! But they're somewhere. I don't know where, but I'm sure if I look ill find them. The Rainbow Children i finally crumbled the shiny plastic disk in my hand and not just threw it away, but killed it dead before i did.
