Rave Un2. I just find it depressing to listen to. Nothing really stands out to me.

20ten is dull as dishwater. Sounds like a collection of demos.

NEWS is pretty uninteresting too.

I was curious if Old Friends 4 Sale would make someone's list here. I could listen to When the Lights Go Down repeatedly and never hear it enough times. This song, in my opinion, is a gem. My next favourite on this album is 5 Women. 3rd would be a tie between There is Lonely and the title track. I burned a cd of Prince music for a small dinner party last week. The cd was mainly stuff that non hard core fams would know. Included on the cd was When the Lights Go Down. Everyone LOVED it. Seriously they raved about that song. They could not believe it was Prince. I wish there were more songs similar to this one. Sorry, I guess I'm off track here. Back to the original question, my answer would have to be none. lol
When the Lights Go Down is THE STAR of that album nod

The album is very strong considering it's a mixed bag of outtakes.

Extrodinary, WTLGD, 5 Women, It's About That Walk, OFFS, Sarah... the I'll do anything tracks are the weakest songs but it's a great album.

I am one who despised Phase 1. I feel guilty because I lit into Prince pretty good on this site in my reviews of Phase 1. My view has recently changed on that album based on what people have said on this site about the album and I gave it another chance. It is now a solid album and I no longer think it is the anti-christ of Prince albums. In fact, it has become my primary Prince album to work out to. I also used to hate the song "It." I now like it based on some views expressed on here and giving it a chance.

My thoughts exactly. It us excellent workout music, strength or aerobic. That help me let go of concerns about Prince prince chasing trends. It's fun even if not his most creative.

I really really want to like TRC but the creepy voice gets me every time.
I didn't love the symbol album but it's starting to grow on me the more I listen.
Every album has 2 or 3 songs I love. And for some reason I'm addicted to The Black Album.
IMHO it shows the incredible range and depth of the P catalogue.

These threads are always interesting as you hear opinions that were never expected. I like the following albumbs, but Im not surprised some others dont:

NEWS

NPS

Old Friends For Sale

and C-Note

Now, these albums that have received some hate, just blow me away:

prince (Completely blows my mind that this eclectic disc of greatness is not considered a classic by everyone.)

20ten (Future Soul Song is worth this disc alone)

The Gold Experience (Really? Really? Holy crap this is a great album)

The Black Album (I think opinions would be different if it had released when it was planned)

Planet Earth (Somewhere here on Earth is another underappreciated prince track)

But thats why music is great. To each their own. The diversity of thought and musical appreciation is what leads to an unending evolution of music.

I have a feeling you and I would have some interesting conversations regarding Prince's albums. Like me, you say you prefer MPLSound to Lotusflow3r, and I agree with you completely on Planet Earth, The Gold Experience and the Black Album. I also quite enjoy elements of C-Note and Old Friends for Sale. And yet, I am one of those who blow your mind when it comes to prince which I found a huge disappointment on release, and I wouldn't care if I never heard NPS again.

No, you´re not alone...although Dreamer and Colonized Mind are gems, I prefer MPL as well. Valentina made my mind on the 1st listen and I also enjoy Ol Skool Company and There´ll never be Another Like Me.

You've picked out exactly the same songs I would pick out on both albums omg

imho The Black Album is essential, (9.5/10).

Like all Warner Bros. albums 1978 to 1995. music

The downhill began with Emancipation, (in my opinion).....

I like half of Musicology, most of Art Official Age, and Phase 1 is amazing as well.

Kama Sutra,

NEWS,

3121,

Planet Earth,

Phase 2

^ these are the "truly" bad ones, maybe I forgot some/ a few bad... 1996 to 2016...?

For You - Too dated and short, can only listen to two songs - In Love and Soft and Wet

Batman - After Electric Chair becomes boring until Scandalous and Batdance

GB - Could only with the Prince tracks, excuse the associated artists.

Emancipation - Too patchy, too many fillers in it.

New power soul - as above

Raves - Too patchy, too many styles and barely there jams

TRC - Crap, too much fillers, darth vader voices and preaching

NEWS - like Kamasutra too its muzak

One night alone - all of them, just boring snore..........

Indigo nights - as above live albums never work, Live bootlegs like Livesexy do!

NPGMC albums - snore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Musicology - Its not bad just boring and bombastic

Plectrum Electrum - some dreadful fillers like Boytrouble and Aint turninround slow it down

HitnrunPhase1 - Again its fillers here.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It wasn't meant as an insult or anything. It's OK to only dig a part of an artist's career, I sure do too with some other acts. But it's not the same as being touched by the very soul of what an artist does, from the first to the last record smile

  • Prince : i only like a handful of those songs.
  • Diamonds and Pearls : even now,it leaves me cold
  • Emancipation: bloated, badly produced, plastic soul masqerading as a love opus.
  • the live albums: many of the boots are better. none of the live albums do him or his talent and stage presence justice, imo.
  • Musicology: i kept thinking "is this it? is this really the new prince album?"
  • Planet Earth: confused
  • Plectrumeletrum: better idea than actual album.

It is my belief that the words filler and muzak are to be used for what they originally mean, not at random like this. I must admit though that Kamasutra sounds like muzak but I do not believe it was intentional. NEWS certainly does not (one has to be deaf to make such a statement). As for the word filler, I think it's pretty much obvious why it cannot make sense in Prince's world where much more was produced than released.

Yeah I wouldn't disagree with that. "Hot wit u" is improved 10 fold by the inclusion of the "Nasty Girl" sample. "Beautiful Strange" is a great song - both versions.

There's a good amount of filler tracks on this one, could have easily been condensed to 2 discs. BUT there's some great tracks. He was so fucking HAPPY during that time, it's a joy you can hear in the record. nod who knows, it could grow on you someday smile

"Prettyman" should have been the first single off Rave...TGRES is so mediocre...it turned me off to the whole album...Prettyman gets lost at the end of that lp...seems like a wasted effort at that point..
