For me, it would be Rave (both in2 and un2). There are some songs I really like (Wherever U Go..., Love U but Don't Trust U, and Rave), but not a big fan of the flow of the album and really can't get into some of the other songs... I am also still not sure about RBC... honestly I have not listened to it all the way through in years, but I am planning to soon (I do love the songs Last December and She Loves Me 4 Me).!!

Prince released a lot of albums to get out of his contract with Warner Brothers, so I'm sure he didn't use his best stuff.

A lot? Come and TGE are most likely things he would have released anyway, though probably not exactly as such if not in the context of the WB wars, so that leaves us with C&D and TVOF4S. I wouldn't call 2 albums a lot.

The Black Album. I just dont dig it as much as I should. It is not as dark as people claim. I dont really see how it is a rebuttal to hip hop. Obviously, there are albums like Batdance, 20ten, Phase 1, Slaughterhouse, etc. that are not his strongest. But I memtion the Black Album because many consider it to be a classic and I just dont.

I was curious if Old Friends 4 Sale would make someone's list here.

I could listen to When the Lights Go Down repeatedly and never hear it enough times. This song, in my opinion, is a gem.

My next favourite on this album is 5 Women. 3rd would be a tie between There is Lonely and the title track.

I burned a cd of Prince music for a small dinner party last week. The cd was mainly stuff that non hard core fams would know. Included on the cd was When the Lights Go Down. Everyone LOVED it. Seriously they raved about that song. They could not believe it was Prince. I wish there were more songs similar to this one.

Sorry, I guess I'm off track here.

Back to the original question, my answer would have to be none. lol

When The Lights Go Down is one of my faves too. One of my friends, a former Deadhead who was never a big Prince fan, came around after hearing and downloading that song in my car. Never gets old.

From the Black Album, I love le Grind, Supercalifrafunkysexy, and Rockhard in a Funkyplace (actually one of my faves). Cindy C I am on the fence about.. The rest of the songs I can give or take. Lovesexy is a better album overall. But the high points on the Black Album I really love.

I just can't find the love for The Black Album that many here have mentioned. And then there is the Slaughterhouse album. Like at least significant portions of all the others though rarely play his jazz albums.

RockHard is superb. Bob George is very interesting. When 2 r in Love is definitely a great song also and I think it is proper to credit that song to The Black Album and not Lovesexy. There are still well over a dozen albums that I like better than The Black Album. I also think that the Black Album and the way it was pulled from the shelf was staged.

That song seems to be a bit of a fan favorite! It's doing pretty well in a warm-up for a big Prince song poll. I love it too.

As for albums I can't really get into, Newpower Soul and Xpectation are the ones I like the least.

The Gold Experience and Emancipation.

I like a couple of songs off each, tbut the albums are too plastic-sounding for me. Which is a sshame, given that there are some really great songs. TGE would have been great with more rock-productions (case in point with the original version of Endorphinemachine) and I think Emancipation would have been improoved with more hip-hop production approach.

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

The second album.

It's just so bland and vanilla for the most part. Even For You had far more edge in its overall approach.

The Rainbow Children (Always my least favourite Prince album. The words get in the way of what could have been a beautiful experience. Not for me)

Slaughterhouse (Throwaway collection of harmless but largely uninspired generic and completely forgettable songs)

20Ten (see Slaughterhouse)

New Power Soul (Two or three standout songs surrounded by poor filler. I do LOVE Come On)

Lotusflow3r (I may be the only person in Purple Land who preferred MPLSound shrug )

N.E.W.S (Can appreciate the skill, but bores the pants off me. Sorry)

prince (I'd been obsessed by all things Prince for almost a decade by '92, and this was the first time I bought a Prince album that I didn't listen to enough to learn every word of every song. My first major disappointment as a huge fan. Didn't help that I passed on both Sexy M.F and My Name is Prince; again the first time since becoming a fan that I didn't buy either of the first 2 singles from one of his albums. Felt the album was targeted at a specific audience, and I wasn't it. Not until TRC did I feel so much on the outside looking in with a Prince album. Those feelings have never left me with this album 24 years on)

Emancipation (My 14 song play-list from the 3 discs would probably rank as one of my top 10 Prince albums. In later years Prince spoke of waiting until a collection of songs sat together well before releasing an album. I don't think Emancipation was a case of him doing that. Just too much wood to see the trees for me here. Not sure I've ever listened the three discs in full, in order, back to back since '96. Much to enjoy for sure, but a collection of good to great songs does not always a great album make. Getting in to an album is an overall experience for me and for my tastes this is a collection of songs, not an album. Maybe only a Prince fan would ever get the chance to say they didn't get in to an album because there were just too many songs to get through, lol )

Most of the above have songs on I really enjoy, but I haven't ever got in to them as albums. I love that with Prince, the fact many fans will agree with some of what I've said, and many will think I'm talking out of my behind, insulting their fave P albums. That's why the man was so freaking awesome.

These threads are always interesting as you hear opinions that were never expected. I like the following albumbs, but Im not surprised some others dont:

NEWS

NPS

Old Friends For Sale

and C-Note

Now, these albums that have received some hate, just blow me away:

prince (Completely blows my mind that this eclectic disc of greatness is not considered a classic by everyone.)

20ten (Future Soul Song is worth this disc alone)

The Gold Experience (Really? Really? Holy crap this is a great album)

The Black Album (I think opinions would be different if it had released when it was planned)

Planet Earth (Somewhere here on Earth is another underappreciated prince track)

But thats why music is great. To each their own. The diversity of thought and musical appreciation is what leads to an unending evolution of music.

(Insert something clever here)

And you know, even though I hate Rainbow Children, I acknowledge that there is great musicianship and talent there. So there is respect there. But I just can't get into it.

MPLSound is just such garbage top to bottom. Cheesy, corny, annoying, hastily thrown together garbage that is one of, if not worst album ever released. So I don't even count that one anymore. That one is just an aberration, an asterisk. A stain that should just be overlooked.

I respect those who don't like TRC, but good lord. I feel like TRC is the crown jewel of his 40 year career. I feel like you guys are missing out on something very special. But, I don't like 20ten and many folks on here love that one so we all have our biases and it just shows how great he is.

Oh yeah! I always say that when opinions are so devided about something, there must be something good to it. Because whether you love it or hate it, either way that means you have feelings about it.

I am one who despised Phase 1. I feel guilty because I lit into Prince pretty good on this site in my reviews of Phase 1. My view has recently changed on that album based on what people have said on this site about the album and I gave it another chance. It is now a solid album and I no longer think it is the anti-christ of Prince albums. In fact, it has become my primary Prince album to work out to. I also used to hate the song "It." I now like it based on some views expressed on here and giving it a chance.

Every album has it's moments but as a whole album I cannot listen to Come all the way through.

Especially because I do not like the 'songs' Come, Solo and Orgasm. Also this album has no highlights for me.

Second choice would be New Power Soul, I do not listen to that album often. Although I do like The One
