I believe I am chanelling Prince himself when I shudder at such campaigns. “I don't believe anything, but I have many suspicions.”

Remeber how Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody re-charted after the 1991 rules and did fantastic not too loing after Freddie died. Of course, we will need to get our designated song in a Wayne's World sequel !

Ah yes you're right, but don't worry, we will remove it in time before the final poll, after all the criteria has been applied. Still nice to see the list of all the tracks that people have chosen.

I am looking forward to being able to participate in this campaign given it is for all of the citizens of the world. I appreciate your hard work, Cherrymoon, as well as the efforts of all involved. A couple of ideas: (1) I support the notion that a recent song might be the best way to go, as they have been overlooked, would not have any Billboard chart rules issues, and there is a great one available that has been mentioned: Black Muse. The fact that it is from Prince's last studio album, exhibits that he was a genuis right up to the end of his life, and is so relevant with all that is going on in the world right now make it an excellent choice. It may get more people to finally listen to the album as well.
(2) If by chance that we get a pleasant surprise and the PR Deluxe is released while the campaign is in gear, then it may be advisable to capitalize on it's publicity (and possible streaming availability) and select one of the previously unreleased songs on it. I imagine they will release the song list several weeks prior to the release of the actual CDs. If there is no clear choice, then the remastered PR would be an obvious choice. People love this song around the world, and there would be interest in getting the remastered version.
(3) For sentimental and musical reasons, I could get behind Paisley Park if #1 and #2 aren't viable. I think the song is more significant now then when it was released given that even the general public now knows the connection between Prince and his Paisley Park compound. The inspiration for PP is so beautifully rendered in the song. It was also overlooked becaause there was a full scale backlash against Prince when ATWIAD was released.

My vote would be for One U Wanna C - also with the video that's leaked recently I think it would be ideal. Bouncy, poppy, positive and uplifting. What a way to celebrate him. And as it's recent money wouldn't go to WB. Comin str8 outta Preston...

It's got to be Paisley Park..... 1, 2, 1, 2, 3 There is a park that is known 4 the face it attracts Colorful people whose hair On 1 side is swept back The smile on their faces It speaks of profound inner peace Ask where they're going They'll tell U nowhere They've taken a lifetime lease On Paisley Park The girl on the seesaw is laughing 4 love is the color This place imparts (Paisley Park) Admission is easy, just say U Believe and come 2 this Place in your heart Paisley Park is in your heart There is a woman who sits All alone by the pier Her husband was naughty And caused his wife so many tears He died without knowing forgiveness And now she is sad, so sad Maybe she'll come 2 the park And forgive him And life won't be so bad In Paisley Park The girl on the seesaw is laughing 4 love is the color This place imparts (Paisley Park) Admission is easy, just say U Believe and come 2 this Place in your heart Paisley Park is in your heart See the man cry as the city Condemns where he lives Memories die but taxes He'll still have 2 give (who) Whoever said that elephants Were stronger than mules? Come 2 the park And play with us There aren't any rules In Paisley Park The girl on the seesaw is laughing 4 love is the color This place imparts (Paisley Park) Admission is easy, just say U Believe and come 2 this Place in your heart Paisley Park is in your heart The girl on the seesaw is laughing 4 love is the color This place imparts (Paisley Park) Admission is easy, just say U Believe and come 2 this Place in your heart Paisley Park is in your heart Your heart, your heart Paisley Park Your heart, your heart, your heart (sing, sing it) Paisley Park Paisley Park Paisley Park As far as I know Elvis never released a song about his spiritual home Graceland or Michael also with his Neverland Ranch. How about we all get behind an attempt to raise awareness to the general public of the one place that to Prince was his spiritual home.

Yes, it sold 95.000 ex in the UK, more than CREAM for instance (80.000 ex) !

Interesting thing to note from those UK single chart positions is the most recent 3.... . A. Raspberry Beret (Paisley Park records) - charted for the first time in 2016. Raspberry Beret (WEA) - charted in 1985 and probably 2016. . That means that the record companies (never requested them combined for sales) . B. 1999 & Little Red Corvette was a double A-Side back in 1985 but as they were downloaded separately they've now got their own position. . C. Purple Rain has always been Warner/WEA so therefore no matter what album you bought it from it was combined. Hence the New chart high of No 6 that was reached last year but recorded against the 1984 release (I think previously it reached No 7 or 8) . . Basically when choosing a song it may be best for the song to have only been released by one record company (to avoid confusion from consumers buying from multiple albums/companies). Also to avoid a double A-Side which will now get split. [Edited 1/16/17 6:42am]

A new rule in the uk chart, since the death of Bowie and Prince, allowed old tracks to be combined with the chartrun of the old. That's why George Michael re-entry are combined within the old chartrun. That is to say, if Purple rain (for instance or another already charted song) enters the uk charts, it won't be considered as a 2017 reentry in this official charts link : . http://www.officialcharts...19/prince/
Hence the interest in getting a never-charted song.

If we're going to go for a track that's never charted, I take it 'Empty Room' isn't available to download? I'm not sure it's ever been officially released, has it? It does have an official video, I do know that!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
'Empty Room' (from 'C-Note') is another one of these poignant amazing songs (like 'The Love We Make') that are unavailable to officially download - at least not anymore: it was made temporarily available in 2015 but only through the NPGMC, so was never eligible for the charts. I personnally think it even deserves its own release!

Agree with you on all counts, Cherry...Prince really did march to the beat of his own drum, didn't he? Amazing songs never having a chance to soar in the public domain...I believe him when he said that, to him, the success was just having made the song - not seeing it in the charts. Of course, for us mere mortals, it matters that others should hear his magnificence!
