I think 'Paisley Park' is the one I would probably endorse most wholeheartedly (although I will support whatever choice is finally made, of course). I think PP ticks all the boxes as has been outlined already - its psychadelic quality makes it quite timeless AND there is a video for it on YouTube if people care to look (albeit not one starring the man himself).

In fact, I like it so much I shall go and listen to it now!

.
Just out of curiosity - is there any footage out there of Prince actually playing / singing this one? It would be good to have a video with shots of him intercut with the official video!

Thanks for sharing.

Also, it will help promote the Paisley Park tours & events.

Furthermore, it could also very likely generate the support for the campaign from Prince's lovely family, members of the New Power Generation and other Prince associated artists!

Paisley Park is a great choice thumbs up! and it was also mentioned in our last campaign.

I know a lot of us would back it up too - which always helps. Thanks MrWilson! smile

"Paisley Park" is a great choice!

Another one that has resonated a lot with me has been "Mountains". It's got the euphoria and positivity of Lovesexy packed into 4 minutes of splendor.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Hmmm...Do I need to start a new thread to find out for sure, you think?

Anyway, just to say - not that my opinion is anything special - I prefer PP to Mountains, and I think it has more resonance, symbolically-speaking. No idea why this font has become so small either!

Yes, you could start a new thread if that question hasn't been asked before... In terms of comparisons between the two songs, I think the rythm is lot more dynamic and uplifting in Mountains, whilst Paisley Park has that beatlesque/Sly Stone sound and the use of psychedelic imagery that reflects what PP is all about which gives the song a great dimension... a hard choice to make.

As for the font shrinkage, this is just one of many Prince.org peculiarities that makes this place even more special. nod lol

I also think PP is a good choice because, as has been said, the NAME is so closely associated with Prince, where he lived, his music publishing, the museum, the recording studios, his legacy - and his philosophy on life (and heaven).

It really means something, going forward.

There is no doubt this track is very representative of the Prince hub and bears a lot of meaning for his fans. Personally, it provides me with a deep sense of nostalgia as it brings back memories connecting to my first listen of 'Around The World In A Day'... In respect of this campaign though, one important question still remains about the track, which is:

'Will it musically appeal to the non-fans (including younger generations) as much as it does to the fans?' (i.e. is it a strong / timeless enough track?)

It's a good question, and one only time can answer...

I will say one thing: my son (who is 12) isn't a huge P fan, no matter how hard I try...He likes Sexy MF ('Horns, stand please' - that's his favourite bit, lmao). But he also likes this song because he likes 'indy music' and this has that flavour to it.

OK - I've said my piece - ultimately I guess you have to make the final decision, Cherry (lucky you, lol) - or do you plan on putting it to the vote again, like last time?

^ Hi lopez568!

Thank you so much for your feedback, it really warms my heart to see that some people do appreciate and understand what these campaigns are all about. The main motivation behind this is ultimately to spread more awareness about Prince, what he did as an artist and who he was as a man as well. I have had the amazing privilege to meet him and he gave me such a thrill and honour by inviting me on his stage, I now want to return the gesture by helping bring a little more light on the wonderful soul that Prince was and forever will be.

I think it is very sad that (for many different reasons) most of his legacy remains unknown to so many – especially after all his years of dedicated efforts - and I am sure there are many out there young and old who still haven’t had the opportunity to hear a fraction of it and who would be amazed to discover some of the tracks from his later eras or anything they haven’t heard yet from his purple epoch. Opinions differ of course, but I believe that his music holds something very special that many people could benefit from.

To answer your questions, the number one goal for this campaign is to try and get Prince to chart in several countries by getting as many fans as possible to purchase the same track during the chart week that coincides with 21st April. There is no real difference with our last campaign except that it was restricted to the UK simply because the Christmas Chart is a big deal over here, so that was our main target. The bar was placed rather high I must admit as we weren’t the only fans celebrating a lost hero...

This time, the occasion is the obvious commemoration and we are basically inviting anyone who feels inclined to participate, without any geographical restrictions. This means that if all the US fans wanted to download / stream the track, then that track could chart in the US too, and the same in France and so on. I am currently in process of contacting other Prince fans websites around Europe and will also be tweeting in different languages soon in order to spread the message further and to reach more people (any multi-linguists out there?).

As for Sometimes It Snows In April, this is a tricky one. I know that the track entered the charts in some European countries last year after his passing and as you know because we supported the track in our Prince4Christmas campaign, we saw it go up in the sales lists over Christmas which means that many people did indeed download the track (I believe our campaign had a lot to do with it since 3 of the tracks we supported were all climbing up at the same time).

This was a good way to observe the impact one small campaign can have but that also means there are now few outlets that the UK participants will be able to download it from a second time. The UK being currently our main source of support, we would probably reduce our chances of success if we supported that same track again.

That said, these are my views only and no one can say for sure how many fans downloaded it, or how many more could download it this time round. There are absolutely no ways of telling because many of the participants who supported us did not systematically report to us about it. So as I said before, this track would be a bit of a gamble.

I agree that When Doves Cry is a good choice that would appeal to a varied range of audiences and that is also currently still played by some radio stations (at least in the UK). It may not be the highest selling track in the UK compared to Purple Rain but it is not too low either so it wouldn’t take too much effort to just give it that final boost to reach the top, so yes, a very strong contender indeed.

Many thanks again for your support!

I think that "When Doves Cry" would be a great candidate for the campaign, given that it is arguably his biggest hit song.

--

I Would Die 4 U - I think that this song would be particularly fitting this year since the anniversary of Prince's death falls so close to Easter. Easter this year is April 16th. This song, in my opinion, is about Jesus.

--

Diamonds and Pearls is another song to consider.

--

I think Paisley Park is a great song for this campaign! Great idea!

I would add "Chelsea Rodgers" - the Millenials and kids love it. We can also choose some from Rolling Stones Magazine's list of the best post 1980 hits.

I just feel that anyone who 'knows' / is vaguely interested in Prince will have already bought Purple Rain / Kiss / Doves / 1999 immediately upon his passing...

.
We need something that rings a bell with the populace, ie the NAME 'Paisley Park' but which won't have been an immediate go-to trac
k upon his passing...Truly, I think if we endorse one of the 'big' ones mentioned, we'll be wasting our energies: people will have already purchased them, AND it reinforces the misconception that Prince only had three / four 'good' tracks.

.
My vote - as Cherry knows - is with PP, one because it's a great, timeless track, two because the name of it is familiar to all and sundry, and three because the lyrics have real symbolic resonance on the first anniversary of P's death: 'Paisley Park is in your heart'.

.

It's going to be really interesting how this pans out - I don't envy you, Cherry!

Cherrymoon! Hi Lovely hug I've been thinking about you and hope you are doing okay smile

As much as I like the idea of Sometimes It Snows In April..I personally feel Prince would want us to celebrate, that song to me, would linger the heartache & heighten the pain - I think songs that would trigger the celebration of Prince would be fantastic. I also think songs that SHOULD have made it on the charts should be the ones we push for - something big that will will grab the attention of new listeners. Alas my vote is for: FunkNRoll.

Though if I was able to pick more than one

2). RNR Love Affair and

3). AnotherLove

The reason why I am choosing these is because the more recent albums were also omited on the Prince4Ever albums - again missing the opportunity to attract new ears and attention to those great albums. This would be a way to get a 'new' song charting! woot!

PLUS, I suspect the radios are already going to be playing some of the popular Hits during that month, just as people are rocking Bowie tunes now. So, since those tunes will likely already be on the radio - my vote is definitely for something 'new' smile

I'm on twitter under the same name - if you tweet me once with it I will make sure to regularly retweet the campaign for you CM smile

Great idea by the way love2

Do you have a little meme or splash page write up (like a banner or something like that) we could tweet and tag various major radio stations, and also reach out to the most followed other Prince groups/handles/pages to do the same. I think it's better to choose three new songs like you are saying CM rather than the same three as last time - as this will encourage people to actually PURCHASE it instead of being like...'I already have that' and not bother.

Are you selecting based on which one is suggested the most?

The problem with LETS GO CRAZY :

.

1. 3 versions are downloadable / streamable (edit on 4EVER, album, and extented on Ultimate)

2. Already charted at #7 in the UK.

That's not really a problem, is it? As for the version, we wouldn't go for the Special Dance Mix (too long), like for Purple Rain, probably just the original album version or the Deluxe one if it is out in time (which would help promote the Deluxe at the same time).

Whatever the track is, I will be behind it.

But if the chosen track is already a hit, what is the point in putting it forward ? And can we really make it more than #7 in april?

If the PR deluxe comes out in time (but I highly doubt it), I agree that a PT track should be chosen. But i thnik a track that hadn't already charted would be a best choice, such as BEAUTIFUL ONES or DARLING NIKKI.

It has to be Purple Rain. The song is legendary but never reached number one in the UK, I think it peaked at number 7. We know the song has the power to resonate with large groups of people, and you could market the campaign by saying that PR never reached number 1 and that it is time to right that wrong.

Wow, I didn't get that ! I thought it was only in the UK...I don't want to be annoying, but this will split the potential of going higher in the UK.

.

France market is small indeed (PURPLE RAIN was #1 last year with 10.000 dl, SOMETIMES IT SNOWS was #14 with only 5000 dl !) but you won't get so much people in France now (and as a French, I know what I'm talking about). But you could get french people to make it higher in the Uk.

.

French reaction to your campaign is so disappointing :

Nobody wants to paticipate in any form.

I know this forum a lot, I was even fired from it for no reason : they don't like to talk about charts and sales. That doesn't interest them, for the large majority. Of course, I hope it will change in the following weeks. I hope Raphy, the owner of this forum, will support this campaign.

.

As for the USa, it is too large a market !

These are just my personnal advice, we will follow you whatever you chose.

I just feel that anyone who 'knows' / is vaguely interested in Prince will have already bought Purple Rain / Kiss / Doves / 1999 immediately upon his passing...

My vote - as Cherry knows - is with PP, one because it's a great, timeless track, two because the name of it is familiar to all and sundry, and three because the lyrics have real symbolic resonance on the first anniversary of P's death: 'Paisley Park is in your heart'.

It's going to be really interesting how this pans out - I don't envy you, Cherry!

That's a very good point Dibblekins.
