But I'm still short..

So heartbreaking and sad. Had no idea he was always tormented by his height even when he got old. You never know what somebody is going through no matter how famous and rich they are. makes me feel sad because I'm actually 6' 7 so I have no idea what he was going through

Is your thread title a quote?

Looks like you´ve edited your thread a bit. Was there a video where he said this and you edited it out?

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

What an intriguing thing to say. What makes you say that? Any reason? Like — have you read something somewhere?

Seriously. I'm curious. What have you heard/read? Links, please?

Yeah that surprised me to read. I'm hoping it was really a joke, I know self deprecating humor can still speak to something beneath the surface but I do hope he didn't say it with a lot of gravity in his heart. Or maybe he was just having a bad night (although that probably should have been a good one!) or a rough week who knows. I guess we all have our things, our insecurities that stick with us no matter what else is going on . For me personally, the things I don't especially love about myself I have learned to live with and don't focus on them daily (well that has come with age) but sometimes when something in my life goes awry or I'm feeling bad about other matters, those things can still rise to the surface at those times.

I really have no idea what eightiesbrat and Sandiegofunkdaddy are talking about.

Are you guys referring to an interview? A video ? A talk show?

Where does that quote come from?

It seems that I´m not the only one since Phatphuk seems to have the same question.

Warren Beatty seemed convinced that Prince was not joking when he said it...and seriously, what man over 13 wouldnt be self-conscious or insecure about being only 5'2?...im 6'0", and i've always wished i were taller... 5'2 is tiny...and he had a big head and a petite body, which made him look even smaller...so yeah, regardless of how "pretty" his face and hair were, i wouldnt blame him for feeling self-conscious...

It's from the GQ article (this month's issue) he said it to Warren Beatty and Bobby Shriver at an after party at Paisley for the Special Olympics the year Prince performed. Warren complimented him on his music, Prince complimented him back on his movies and one of the men said wow this is so great and here we are at your house! and Prince's reply was "but I'm still short"

Thanks for clearing that up, I really appreciate it.

I had already read the GQ article but it was late at night and I had completely forgotten about that part.

But it´s one of the best Prince related articles I´ve seen in a long time.

Loved the part about him and Morris Hayes at the hardware store. wink

Yes it was so good! I read it nice and slow to make it last longer haha. I loved hardware store story too. I also loved how he would say "Oprah's on" to indicate he didn't need you like go watch Oprah get out. ha, I remember that commerical.

I'm pretty sure Prince was going for some dry humor when he said that to the other two in that story in GQ. He kind of celebrated his stature, putting lyrics and jokes in songs... "this little prince" "Purple Yoda" etc.

I didn't take the quote as someone who was "tormented", I think that's a little bit much but I'm sure he had issues with his height. I'm fun sized myself and I have always wished I was taller even though I'm a woman. I don't know if Prince would have physically appealed to me with the makeup and clothes and stuff if he was 6'3" or something. That little package enhanced his image in my opinion.

I doubt it myself, maybe in grade school. That's based on my own experience of being a little skinny guy. When you're grown, things like that are long part of you. You own it.

Yeah. Thanks for chiming in with that, eightiesbrat. Reminds me of Iggy Pop's killer Five Foot One

Five Foot One

Yeah, I like it

Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!

I'm only five foot one

I got a pain in my neck

I'm looking up in the city

What the hell what the heck

I stare at the concrete

The girders eye high

The steel's above me

There's love in my eyes

And I'm doing the things

A five foot one man can do

I'm only five foot one

I got a pain in my heart

All the night I'm working

In the amusement park

With a bottle of aspirin

A sack full of jokes

I wish I could go home

With all the big folks

And I wish life could be

Swedish magazines

I wish life could be

Swedish magazines

I wish life could be

Anything

I'm only five foot one

Unless the time has come

I won't grow anymore

Anymore, anymore, anymore

'Till I'm losing my head

I'm checkin' it twice

I'm gonna find out who's naughty and nice

And I'm doing the things a five foot one man can do

I wish life could be Swedish magazines [Repeat: x3]

I wish life could be

Yeah, I wish life could be

Oh

I wish life could be

I wish life could be Swedish magazines

I wish life could be Swedish magazines

I wish life could be

I won't grow anymore [Repeat: x3]

Anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore

I'm only five foot one [Repeat: x3]

I'm five foot one

He wore high heels, it became part of his image. Would he have wore high heels if he was 6 feet tall? My guess, no.

Meh! I think he was joking. shrug Because in spite of his physical appearance, Prince managed to achieve incredible "heights" that very...very... few could ever dare dream of...and he damn well KNEW that! nod

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't think he felt self-conscious about the droves of beautiful women that threw themselves at him.

I've never met anyone that hasn't liked something about themselves, and Prince probably was no different. He was human after all, and we all go through that where we wish something was different about us, or wish we could change this or that. When I was growing up, I had a gap in my two front teeth, that I thought was enormous and just hated it, especially during my teen years. Then one day I was looking back over school photos I had taken and realized that the gap wasn't as big as I imagined all those years, in fact it was nothing to get upset over, as I did back then. I'll tell you one thing though, Prince's height may have bothered him, but it sure didn't bother the ladies! lol

yeahthat I don't think he was as serious about that comment as the article was implying. I felt it was dry humor for sure. Prince was a very confident individual, short or no.. I don't think he was that hung up on his stature after all these years. He was wanted by practically every woman on the planet and he knew how to work those heels. So he was a little short, that's one of the things that made him so special. Dude didn't even care if he dated girls taller than him. Never bothered him... I think he only said it dead pan to be funny. This was Prince y'all, I doubt he would have let himself be so vonurable in front of his peers.

In "Ladycab Driver" he talks about not being as handsome and tall like his brother. He probably had his insecurities, but they never stopped him, let that be a lesson for all of us.

Not to mention some of them were Giants...

Bria his love interest...Demaris his muse...Prince never seemed to be bothered standing by them or even holding hands with them..which always emphasised their Stature

I am the same height Prince was, which is about 5'3, and I am a woman, but I think he was trying to find the humor in his thoughts about how small and tiny he was. I thought he looked cute being that he was so tiny where his height was concerned.

yeahthat There was something very special about him being only 5'3. I thought he looked adorable and so did half the women in the world. None seemed to care that he was of small stature. We were all still very attracted to him, and trust me, it wasn't because he was rich and famous. It was because of his sex appeal, it was because he was gorgeous, talented, confident, and infinitely Prince... love2 love2 love2

And furthermore, he probably seemed small to certain people who were 5'7 and above, but to the ladies close to his height, he was just right...

Agree. I think that's how he dealt with it, making fun of his shortcomings. Oops!
