But he never seemed short. He was a giant, even when he was walking behind Big Chick. Wendy said you just knew, when he walked into a room, that he was a massive star/personality.

Based on a thing called The Napoleon Complex, there's a case that could be made, that if Prince hadda been tall, then it is likely that he would not have been as driven to overcompensate for his diminuitive stature by proving himself through his music.

In fact, my whole famdamily is 6-0 & over. lol they always had names for me.....and always said that I am adopted.

In the South, Prince’s career had got off to a good start. People knew who he was, and now they knew where he was going to be. They showed up in generous numbers, and by the time Prince and Pepé Willie had rushed to the hotel, freshened up and hurried to their appointment, boredom had sharpened the crowd’s anticipation.

Inevitably, there were those who found the reality a disappointment in one particular respect.

“We got out, and we were walking through all these people,” remembers Willie, “and I heard somebody say, ‘Oh, he’s so short!’ I was so embarrassed. But then I thought, Hey, he is short, you know? He had to deal with it sooner or later.”

He was exploring house music. He had this girl, Cat, a rapper; she was kind of loud. One day, she walks in and blurts out, “Man, you guys are the same size.” I’m 5'4, and Prince is really self-conscious about his height. Well, for a whole week it was short jokes.

Sheena Easton was coming in to sing a duet with Prince, and she wanted to sing in the studio, not in the control room, which he always did, sitting down in front of the console with a microphone.

So I go out and set up the microphone, and he says over the speakers, “Chuck, you’d better lower that microphone. She’s really short. She’s your size.” I came in the control room, and he’s looking busy, trying not to laugh.

I seriously loved him the way he was. I wouldn't have wanted him to be any different. He was so unique and special. Everything about him- his height, his talent, his beauty. Everything all wrapped up in that wonderful package.

I've always wondered about another thing he very likely might have been self-conscious about. There is a definite pattern that more than one of Prince's exes seems to have followed. It's intriguing to me, personally, that Mayte Garcia, Manuela Testolini, Kim Basinger — Denise Matthews — and all the others… — have all rebounded with tall guys after breaking up with Prince.

Tommy Lee — Eric Benet — Alec Baldwin — Nikki Sixx… All tall guys over six foot.

You gotta wonder — What's up with that? Is it that tall guys had always been and always will be “their type”? And they just made a one-time exception for Prince — because of his celebrity stature?

Did these ladies habitually date guys shorter than them after Prince? There are way more guys of average height — {5' 7") — than 6' tall guys. Since there are more average height guys in the dating pool, it seems like getting with a guy who is taller than average, would take more effort on the ladies' part.

Prince was no doubt a fairly observant fella. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd also observed that pattern in his exes Post-Prince choices, himself.

Was consistently dating women taller than him, another way of overcompensating for his height? Enquiring minds want to know!

Are you guys referring to an interview? A video ? A talk show?

Where does that quote come from?

It seems that I´m not the only one since Phatphuk seems to have the same question.

It's from the GQ article (this month's issue) he said it to Warren Beatty and Bobby Shriver at an after party at Paisley for the Special Olympics the year Prince performed. Warren complimented him on his music, Prince complimented him back on his movies and one of the men said wow this is so great and here we are at your house! and Prince's reply was "but I'm still short"

.

Nah, Prince did not care, really. He had a good sense of humor. He said he wore heels, because the women liked it. lol batting eyes

That's the sense I always got (not that I knew Prince of course lol) that's why I was surprised to read this. Sounds like this could be a case of Bobby Shriver not reading the situation properly. I mean , even if Prince did have some underlying issues regarding his height I doubt he'd randomly unleash them on Warren Beatty.

yeahthat There was something very special about him being only 5'3. I thought he looked adorable and so did half the women in the world. None seemed to care that he was of small stature. We were all still very attracted to him, and trust me, it wasn't because he was rich and famous. It was because of his sex appeal, it was because he was gorgeous, talented, confident, and infinitely Prince... love2 love2 love2 And furthermore, he probably seemed small to certain people who were 5'7 and above, but to the ladies close to his height, he was just right... [Edited 12/13/16 7:41am]

.

Yes! Prince had a lot of good qualities that made up/compensated for his short stature. His personality, showmanship, sexyness, talent and intellect overshadowed his height, imo.

Prince was not self-conscious about his height. He wore heels because he wanted to, not because he was a petite, 5'3" Man. His heels were just a part of his ensemble/style.

.

People think just because he wore heels, that his height bothered him. That is just not true and even said so himself. He would joke about it from time-to-time, because people would bring it up in conversation, and Prince had a good sense of humor, so he would just go along with it.

.

This discussion has been going on for years!
