A Prince Documentary Is Coming In 2017

A Prince film is in the works that will chronicle the iconic musician’s early years and rise to mainstream success.

Titled Prince: R U Listening? the documentary biopic will tell the story of the Purple One through his bandmates, friends and family. Dez Dickerson, Prince’s first guitar player and Andre Cymone, Prince’s close friend and original bassist, are included in the film, as well as Sheila E.; Lenny Kravitz; Mick Jagger; Billy Idol; and Bono.

According to Screen Daily, R U Listening? will be spearheaded by Emmy and Peabody award winning director and producer Michael John Kirk, known for his work on the PBS documentary series Frontline.

The Film is slated for a mid to late 2017 release, with no other details currently available.

This announcement comes right after news that Paisley Park will be hosting a Prince celebration in the spring of next year, which will feature performances from The Revolution; Morris Day & The Time; The New Power Generation; and Liv Warfield & Shelby J (featuring members of 3RDEYEGIRL).

The four day event begins on April 20 and ends on the 23rd (marking precisely one year since the icon’s tragic death). General admission tickets will run for $499 each, which will include access to the weekend’s full programming — panel discussions, tours of the purple palace and autographing sessions with the evening’s notable guests. VIP tickets will cost double at $999, tacking on on-site parking, photo opportunities and a meal ticket.

Along with this recent Prince news is the release of Prince 4 Ever, a greatest hits compilation that features the unreleased track “Moonbeam Levels,” a song originally recorded in 1982 to be included on 1999, but shelved until this very day. Also on the way is a remastered and extended version of the classic Purple Rain, which is slated to include unreleased material as well. But you can purchase Prince 4 Ever here.

I'm so weary of everyone dipping into the purple pie- but we'll see how this one works out.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Thanks, I looked but didn't see this posted. I would really love to see a new documentary on Prince if it's done well. If the Frontline guy is involved, it might be.
