Mplsound Last night I listened to this album for the first time since he left us. Track number one took on a whole new meaning.

He was so right... Love this album. 'Here' is one of my all time favorite's and takes on a special meaning to me also.

Still the worst album ever made by anyone of any genre. Just the absolute worst.

It's good. Like - damn good. And I totally short changed it until December 2015 roughly. The tracks feel artificial and glossy - and it works somehow. It has really grown on me.
Edit - and there are FAR worse albums in every genre than this one. That is just hyperbole and I could very easily add a list of 50 albums that are totally unlistenable in comparison. [Edited 10/22/16 17:35pm]

Great album that I slept on until recently. Just really never gave it the time it deserved... I am grateful now as the album has helped me get through as of late. There was a while there where "Better with Time" would be the song I would play b4 bed... really a sweet, dreamy ballad that feels like he was very passionate about. Also, love Dance 4 Me and No More Candy... just funky tracks... an amazing compliment to Lotus (which was incredible in it's own right). IF u haven't yet, the Peach and Black podcast review for this album is pretty fun (I have been relistening to the podcast reviews... nice to have lively debates and sometimes clues me into different things about the songs I may have missed...)

"I don't like it" would have been sufficient. "I think it's Prince's worst album" or "I think it's a mediocre album", why not? But this... Either you don't think it and therefore u could have added an emoticon to indicate your awareness of the statement's exaggeration. Or you think it and then u probably haven't heard many albums. As in very few. As in "I'm 12 years old and i've just bought my fifth CD ever".

Naw. One of my least favorite Prince albums, but there's some classics on there.

It's one of my least favorite of his albums, but there are a few cool songs on there (for me, Chocolate Box, Dance 4 Me, Ol' Skool Company and No More Candy 4U). Not too keen on the ballads.

No it's BECAUSE I listen to a lot of music and MPLSOUND is among the worst albums ever made made. Lazy, stupid, derivative, and aiming at the lowest common denominator. Embarrassing for Prince to ever think releasing was a good idea. The really off thing is he must have known it wasn't that great and maybe just threw it out there for those whining for that "old" sound and shut them up, because he releases the album with Lotusflow3r, one of his best in the longest time. One he actually used help in the studio with the sound. But if YOU think MPLSOUND is good, which indeed apparently seems it is aimed at the 12 year old and under crowd . Then you are 12 and haven't listened to many albums to compare with. It's a stupid amateurish album and is indeed not just his worst, but among the worst ever released by anyone of any genre.

* I was 40 when Mpls was released, had been a Prince fan since 1980, Dirty Mind, and was raised on great music, such as Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, B. B. King, Smokey Robinson, and more. As such, I thoroughly enjoyed the combined forces of Lotusflow3r and Mpls.

Naw, it simply has some good somgs and some not so good songs. Exaggerate much? "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

* But, your statement was that only people who were "12 and under" who hadn't "listened to many albums to compare with" would like Mpls, which clearly isn't the case with me. I was over 12 when I heard it, and, by then, I had listened to many albums to compare to Mpls, and I still like it, which seems to debunk your position. * My only real point is that I never understand folks who can't seem to see beyond their own taste in music. I completely understand if you hate Mpls, but I don't understand how you can't fathom that someone else could like it, using the whole "someone not as musically educated or sophisticated as me" line of logic to refute the notion that someone could like Mpls. As someone said on this site years ago, "One person's Lovesexy is another person's The Rainbow Children." As such, it makes no sense to attack people or question their artistic/aesthetic education, maturity, or taste simply because they like something that you don't. This doesn't mean that we can't have informed discussions about what makes some songs different or even more complex or progressive than other songs, but I'm always aware that art is equally subjective as well as empirical, meaning that both the art, itself, as well as the person's personal existence are both combining to inform and impact how someone receives or reacts to a work of art. For me, Mpls is fun, funky, eclectic, and presents a variation on the sound provided by Lotusflow3r. Together, they constitute a nice whole of the genius of Prince. On the other hand, only one song moved me from Via's album as most of the songs seem very one-dimensional and redundant of each other in groove and vocal delivery, but I'm open to the possibility that it connected or resonated with someone else even if it didn't resonate with me. Rather than dissing Via's album or the people who like it, I prefer focusing on what I like as a more constructive way to share artistic/aesthetic ideas.

. You backpedaled within your very first response. It went from being the "absolute worst" by "anyone" in "any genre" to AMONG the worst. . If you're going to make as grand a proclamation as "absolute worst" - at least have the conviction to stick to it. . That being said, I agree it is among Prince's least inspired albums. But for me, "Better With Time" is alone reason enough to slot it above at least one of his others...

No it's a litmus test. If anyone goes so far overboard sensed the worst album ever it's a given you have some bad taste in music. You're a fanatic Prince fan obviously and and like a form of stockholm syndrome you fanatically defend even something as obviously bad as MPLSOUND

Indeed, so it seems. What bothers me is that some people state their opinions as fact. I think it's better to communicate through opinions, that is widely considered more mature and respectful. Ontopic: MPLS? Well i think it's not his best, i like Oldskool Company and at the time thought the album was quite okay. Lotusflow3r is my favorite of the 3 albums and i think that's more organic and enyoyable. I have only listened to Elixer once.... Ia Ia Cthulhu Fthagn!

I'm hoping that the reason your messages seem kinda hostile is because the written word doesn't really facitlitate sarcasm and the like - so I'll view your messages as being the sorts of playful things my friends and I say to each other often and will respond similarly. . I hope that one day you pull MPLSound back out and put on your headphones or whatever it is you use to listen to music and you realize that "daaaamn this album isn't actually bad!! I gotta make a thread about this on the org!": Thread Name: "You all on that MPLSound thread 5 years ago - I was wrong - please forgive me!!!" And we're all still here on the site and we're gonna laugh at you and not forgive you! I'm marking my calendar now, Ingelta. On the flipside if you are being hostile - be nice!!! Geez it's someone else's ears - they can't unlike stuff they have a natural affinity toward and there is probably a lot of stuff you listen to that they don't like and they haven't jumped on you for not liking MPLSound - just that you were mean to them!
