"Here" IS definitely a bitchin' track.

.

While I dislike most of this record, I do like that one, "Better With Time," "No More Candy 4 U," and...

.

The one that was also on "One Night Alone" (though I like that earlier version better than the one on MPLSound).

Indeed, so it seems. What bothers me is that some people state their opinions as fact. I think it's better to communicate through opinions, that is widely considered more mature and respectful. Ontopic: MPLS? Well i think it's not his best, i like Oldskool Company and at the time thought the album was quite okay. Lotusflow3r is my favorite of the 3 albums and i think that's more organic and enyoyable. I have only listened to Elixer once....

Dude - you gotta listen to Elixir again - I hated it on first listen - and ironically enough MPLSound as well - and I actually love all 3 albums now!!

Fair enough, challenge accepted

MLPSound - Bubbly, sync, fun, sassy… HELL it’s even “12 year old girl” sassy for that matter!!!

I find as a normal ‘observer’ on the .ORG that there is a lot of folks that make listening to music HARD.

Also cannot believe he’d just put it out for any other reason, other than he believed in it! I only write this b/c I was literally listening to U’re Gonna C Me as I was reading this post, prompted me to pop in with my super ‘amateurish’ thought on this album… which I adore.

Hey it’s all opinion right!

Yes. The troll narrative is to call someone who disagrees with a blatant stupid opinion or idea is a troll.

thumbs up!

Notice how no one but the same two three people have come to defend mplsound? It's not a popular album even on a Prince site. Says a lot.

A saw. Cutting a smiley face. In half. Good lord.

.

Ingela - was there absolutely no redeeming factor on this album at all for you? I normally find after relistening to it almost everyone at least likes "Dance For Me".

.

Also - how would you rate the albums post 1990 that you've heard? I'm being totally serious on this - no hate. Keep in mind I had made a very similar assessment of his post 80s music until last year when I rediscovered it all and felt I had misjudged it all.

.

I'm also not saying that I think you'll rediscover it or anything I just bring that up to let you know that I fully understand your perspective on the post 80s work. I even made a thread about it awhile back (but I won't include the link here cause I am not a shameless self promoter.

@purplethunder3121 - I don't know when the last time I heard a Prince song on the radio that wasn't 1999 with the exception of shortly after P's death. "I don't like it" would have been sufficient.

"I think it's Prince's worst album" or "I think it's a mediocre album", why not?

But this...

Either you don't think it and therefore u could have added an emoticon to indicate your awareness of the statement's exaggeration.

Or you think it and then u probably haven't heard many albums. As in very few. As in "I'm 12 years old and i've just bought my fifth CD ever".

No it's BECAUSE I listen to a lot of music and MPLSOUND is among the worst albums ever made made. Lazy, stupid, derivative, and aiming at the lowest common denominator. Embarrassing for Prince to ever think releasing was a good idea. The really off thing is he must have known it wasn't that great and maybe just threw it out there for those whining for that "old" sound and shut them up, because he releases the album with Lotusflow3r, one of his best in the longest time. One he actually used help in the studio with the sound. But if YOU think MPLSOUND is good, which indeed apparently seems it is aimed at the 12 year old and under crowd . Then you are 12 and haven't listened to many albums to compare with. It's a stupid amateurish album and is indeed not just his worst, but among the worst ever released by anyone of any genre.

Well i'm 39 and I have a music collection of nearly 5000 albums, and I think Mplsound is a wonderful record, always have, always will. Your statement is too exaggerated to be taken seriously by anyone though, I'm sure you realise that. While claiming that you hate the album and arguing against it is perfectly acceptable, claiming that it is the worse, or among the worst albums ever released when it's likely that more than ten million albums have been released on earth in the course of the last 70 years (I found a 2005 figure saying 3,5 million on CD format only), is absolutely idiotic, no offense, but by making statements so extreme that they are absurd, u must be prepared for people replying you such things.

But, your statement was that only people who were "12 and under" who hadn't "listened to many albums to compare with" would like Mpls, which clearly isn't the case with me. I was over 12 when I heard it, and, by then, I had listened to many albums to compare to Mpls, and I still like it, which seems to debunk your position.

*

My only real point is that I never understand folks who can't seem to see beyond their own taste in music. I completely understand if you hate Mpls, but I don't understand how you can't fathom that someone else could like it, using the whole "someone not as musically educated or sophisticated as me" line of logic to refute the notion that someone could like Mpls. As someone said on this site years ago, "One person's Lovesexy is another person's The Rainbow Children." As such, it makes no sense to attack people or question their artistic/aesthetic education, maturity, or taste simply because they like something that you don't. This doesn't mean that we can't have informed discussions about what makes some songs different or even more complex or progressive than other songs, but I'm always aware that art is equally subjective as well as empirical, meaning that both the art, itself, as well as the person's personal existence are both combining to inform and impact how someone receives or reacts to a work of art. For me, Mpls is fun, funky, eclectic, and presents a variation on the sound provided by Lotusflow3r. Together, they constitute a nice whole of the genius of Prince. On the other hand, only one song moved me from Via's album as most of the songs seem very one-dimensional and redundant of each other in groove and vocal delivery, but I'm open to the possibility that it connected or resonated with someone else even if it didn't resonate with me. Rather than dissing Via's album or the people who like it, I prefer focusing on what I like as a more constructive way to share artistic/aesthetic ideas.

Well said! Save so that you can paste and post on almost every other thread on the org wink

Thanks.

No it's a litmus test. If anyone goes so far overboard sensed the worst album ever it's a given you have some bad taste in music. You're a fanatic Prince fan obviously and and like a form of stockholm syndrome you fanatically defend even something as obviously bad as MPLSOUND
