Most Sinister moment in a Prince song

He had a few moments where he just went off the rails into some deep dark areas (which I loved). For me it's the rape breakdown towards the end of Extraloveable. I'm disturbed by it every time yet I get chills. Hard to explain. Any others?

It's hard to top that though there's a similar line in Lust U Always. Fortunately neither were released. You can't play those to non fans. It's really a repugnant thing to sing about doing.

The song was not releashed to the public so he was not really thinking about we were going to think because we would not have been hearing the song.

Never understood how anyone found Bob George sinister. I mean, it's just a parody of the hip hop stereotype. He was clearly doing it as a joke / standard hip hop sketch.

Yeah,

Great Song.

I think that he wrote it for all of us women who have rape fantasies.

I think that the reason it didn't get released might have been that Warner Brothers wouldn't go along with it.

But that is just a guess.

"Dead On It" was satire on hip-hop. "Bob George" was an angry man going after his girlfriend with a gun, and eventually ending in a shoot out.

"Papa" is also sinister. "There Is Lonely" is pretty dark, and is a cousin to "Empty Room" for me.

I think sonically The Black album is quite unnerving. Idk something about it is just horror-movie esque in some odd way.

I was just thinking that. A lot of mention of blood and odd situations are described. Or perhaps is it the Mwahahahahaah at the start of Superfuncalifragisexy...

That's a really good synopsis. I don't believe it's just lyrics that make The Black Album dark in nature. It's the aural aesthetic and texture of it. Some bullet points:

That hollow echo noise at the beginning of "Le Grind" is a darker version of same type of sound at the beginning of Janet's "Miss You Much".
His muffled begging in "Cindy C" seems desperate and not as playful as the same urgency you hear in the extended "Thieves In The Temple" or the monologue in "eye Hate U".
The da-da-daaa-da-da-daa hook in "Superfunky" is almost a horror-movie type taunting musical queue. Even the way he acts out lyrics from that in the Lovesexy Tour has a weird possessed nature about it (when he's tied to the chair, or The Exorcist type position on the bed he has - like Regan spider-walking down the stairs backwards).

If Spike Lee ever does a horror movie, he should pull from The Black Album for the soundtrack.

Joint 2 Joint

.

At first he is seducing her.
.
Then he is doing something to her while she is under.
.
Apparently whatever he did to her made her fall for him.
.
When he is uncomfortable with her the next morning he starts being a jerk.
.
She likes him so he accuses her of thinking she is his soul mate.
.
And starts being rejecting, making all kinds of hurtful and untrue accusations.
.
He tells her she doesn't love him because she doesn't even know what kind of cereal he likes.
.
And he accuses her of being a gold digger.
.
When he was the one who initiated everything in the first place.
.
Basically he is treating her like shit.
.

.

If U wanna we can kick it, baby, joint 2 joint

CHORUS:
(Sex me) - Uh, yeah (safe), joint 2 joint
(Sex me) - Uh, yeah (safe), kick it, baby, joint 2 joint
(Sex me) - Uh, yeah (safe), joint 2 joint
(Sex me) - Uh, yeah

Before I melt the wax 2 quizzical
Let me just say that U are physically
The most toned one I've ever seen
U're making me proud 2 be a human be-i-ng (Uh huh!)
And if we're ever naked in the same machine
I'm gonna lick it, baby, joint 2 joint

CHORUS

So first I need a picture of your mother
2 verify the fact that there's not another
One in the universe so supreme
Damn, U got the rock 2 give a brotha cream (Cream)
And if we're ever naked in the same machine
I'm gonna lick it, baby, joint 2 joint

(Sex me) - Uh, yeah (safe), joint 2 joint
(Sex, sex, sex me) - If U wanna we can kick it, baby, joint 2 joint
(Sex me) - Oh yeah, I got some hot sauce, joint 2 joint (Ha ha ha)
(Sex me) - Said kick it baby, joint 2 joint (Right on, ha ha ha)
(Sex me) - Yeah (safe)

Come upstairs 2 my room

Joint 2 joint (I never sucked...) {x2}

I never sucked sour splints from a chew stick
Don't lick bics 'cause fire sticks 2 flame (flame)
Get wicks 2 catch brothers who choose 2 let burns remain
Now I see all Dicks, Toms and Harrys are not the same
Some dipped in my lower lip, sipped a supple poison (poison {x3})

Joint 2 joint (I never sucked...) {x4}

(Come with me, 4 those who wanna change)
(But nothing comes 4 free)

Joint 2 joint, nothing comes 4 free
If U show your love, U can get with me
U can get with me, U can get with me
Joint 2 joint

Up the stairs 2 my lovely room
Stroke your face and U're under soon
Sittin' in the corner in your underwear
Lettin' me caress your nappy hair

Joint 2 joint, nothing comes 4 free
If U show your love, U can get with me
And if U light my candle, we can share the stone
Flames of desire, sweet gypsy moans
Sweet gypsy moans
Joint 2 joint {x3}

Joint 2 joint, nothing comes 4 free

Oh great, now U think U're my soulmate
U don't even know what kind of cereal I like
Wrong! Cap'n Crunch with soy milk
'cause cows are 4 calves
U'd probably take me 4 half
U don't love me, U're a faker
U just want me 4 my acres

(Na na, na na na na)
Joint 2 joint {x3}

Joint 2 joint, nothing comes 4 free (Sex me)
If U show your love, U can get with me {repeat in a loop}
(Na na, na na na na) (Nothing comes 4 free)
If we're ever naked in the same machine
Baby, we can kick it joint 2 joint

Now - I love TBA - but I don't think Dead On It is satire - it's his attempt at a hip hop song and being bad at it haha.

.

Bob George is a hip hop sketch that wouldn't sound too out of place on an NWA album. It ends in a gun fight with the cops for cryin' out loud. With NWA those types of things were ridiculous and Prince isn't immune to that honestly.

.

Random thought: by the time it was released in a legit manner in 94 those two songs had beats that should have been cleaned for dust. Def. should have been swapped out or updated imo. Plus - D&P and Symbol had already come out - and so many already felt he was pandering to the rap audiences with Tony M. Just then here comes the black album and Prince's true feelings for rap are revealed. It was such a sad confirmation that he actually felt he had to change his artistry to try to be fresh. That is about the only thing I wish he hadn't done imo I bet that is why he didn't want us to buy TBA

.

sorry/end rant.

I always thought Temptation was his most sinister song, his internal fight between good and evil. The "dark" voice chilled me as a young adolescent, yet I was drawn to the song. I love it and still have it on repeat to this day.
~Save me Jesus I've been a fool. How could I forget that you are the rule? You are my God, I am your child. From now on, for you I shall be wild, I shall be quick I shall be strong, I'll tell Your story, no matter how long~

Yeah not too subtle on 18 and over. I was a bit shocked when I first heard it.
