. Just turn the record over; you will be amazed at what modern technology can do... (Yes, I had not yet realised the length of the audio CD's) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

If you play 'Head' backwards you get an ultra rare song titled 'Deah'. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I am curious if there were any other configurations for this release. I get the impression Moonbeam Levels may have been an after thought to add to the tracklist, no evidence, just a vibe. Prince 4Ever gives off a re-hash of the The Hits project. Just like ML is reminiscent of Power Fantastic being released in the same manner.

I agree - I dont think he did either - he would not have let these two songs go on there, especially as he did not even sing them live in later years. I think WB made that call themselves. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Does seem odd. I was hoping for the radio edit of Sexy MF - "You sexy mutha aww-ah". Haven't been able to find that anywhere!

And Girls & Boys. Although the sound quality on the Peach CD single was appalling.

Obviously, this is all opinion, but I'm actually shocked someone would prefer Free over Moonbeam Levels.

. Playing some 'free' track from 1984 now to verify.

. It was a bit live so... MMMMyes... `Free` has a more practical message, I guess. What else? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I totally agree with you. It's just that these 2 just seem so starkly different in quality, to me

I think both are amazing songs. "Free" is an absolute 10. It's just that we might have to break the 10-point scale for "Moonbeam Levels". Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I prefer "Free" over "Moonbeam Levels"
Both songs are great, but I think "Free" has a more universal message that is easy to understand.Even amongst hardcore fans, there are those who still don't know what the lyrics in "Moonbeam Levels" are really about.Prince made the right choice by placing "Free" on the 1999 album.

To me this was a rehash and repackaged Hits with a few new things and mixes tossed in and of course Moonbeam Levels. Much of the artwork is that era too, so this was just about getting something new out there this time of the year to maybe bridge the gap between a PR reissue. None of this disc was remastered in fact things are at different levels which shows that it was a rush to get something on the market or possibly that WB might not have the right to remaster anything which if it's true don't expect getting cleaned up demos and such. Did buy it today. When I saw the packaging, I wanted to leave it where it was. But I finally grabbed it. Packaging is an insult IMHO. The "never seen before pictures" also an insult in some way. We know so many pictures of that session and that style too well. The booklet, track info and liner notes not quite close to anything special. Too pitty for a release like this, which is labelled to celebrate the life and art of Prince. That Hero, to me at least, should have deserved a great super-de-lux boxset, with a big book, pictures, name it. But hey, I'm still pleased..... Got an official released Moonbeam Levels now!! Well, Moonbeam Levels is a good song. Not the best IMHO. The sound level is all over the place on this set, tho.

Not sure if this is in the six damn pages of this thread or not, but did anyone notice "Mountains" cuts off abruptly, like it was pulled from the album. It cuts just before you hear the child's voice that leads into "Do U Lie?" Surely someone could have just grabbed the master track for the 7" single or something. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Uh huh, they managed to do that in 1993 for the Peach b-side but apparently this was too much effort in 2016.

After reading this in an article:
"When Prince’s 2014 deal with Warner Bros. was announced, the wording of the press release suggested that the artist at least verbally agreed to issue upgraded versions of his Warner Bros.-era albums and mine his vault for previously unreleased material, beginning with a Purple Rain deluxe edition. (Several contemporaneous tracks were released as B-sides and many more have appeared on bootlegs, and several full concerts from the Purple Rain era were professionally recorded, including a March 1985 show that was released on the now out-of-print home video Prince and the Revolution: Live.) But when asked about the status of the Purple Rain reissue shortly after Prince’s death, Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Cameron Strang told Billboard, "I definitely discussed it with Prince. At times he toyed with doing something with it and maybe worked on it, but he considered Purple Rain a masterpiece, and I think he liked it the way it was."
I am skeptic of the PR release. The Prince 4Ever also makes me wonder exactly how much involvment Prince had in it prior to his passing. I am curious to know if there were ever multiple track listings for 4Ever that did not contain Moonbeam Levels. I am inclined to believe the Estate gave that as a bonus to WB in an attempt to help sells. I have no proof, just a vibe, and I can be totally wrong.
This article is from the Estate, as an exhibit for their claim against Tidal, link:
