He had is son cremated so it is possible that they discussed it.

Wow, He burned up his son and then his body goes through the same fate.

What I find odd is that JW does not believe in cremation, yet his family had him cremated.

Very sad about P's Son. I read the story and it's just heartbreaking. I was a bit shocked to read that P was not there when his Son passed. I can't imagine what that did to Mayte. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child but, maybe he could not bear to see him one last time and he wanted to let him go in peace.

Yes, I believe he is buried with his first wife. Some people just do not like the idea of having an casket with people looking in on them. With cremation you by pass that part of the funeral process.

Tyka did say he did not like drama.

Desecration of a final resting place is always a concern with a famous person. I thought spreading his ashes over the Chanhassen/Minneapolis region would have been appropriate, but either he specifically stated what he wanted done when the time was to come, or his family made a judgment call on the procedure and display at PP. I do think being at PP is where he should be, but I would prefer - for security reasons - that the urn be behind glass in a wall.

Mayte said they had their own private ceremony so he had time to say goodbye.

Maybe Prince realized that it doesn't matter whether you are cremated or buried because you are dead. Personally I would prefer cremation over burial because I hate the thought of my body deterioting and being eaten by worms.

All i know is the cremation was a rush job for reasons we will never know.

So people that went on the VIP tours to PP these past weeks got to see the PP urn?

I think they rushed it because they wanted to avoid someone taking a photograph of him at the funeral home. A picture was taken of John Lennon at the morgue, and of Whitney Houston at the funeral home, so there is a market for such things.

Yes, the PP urn is in the atrium in a glass case.

There were no pictures taken (that we know of) outside PP when Prince's body was being removed by the Coroner.

Even if you're buried, over time you will wind up as dust anyway.

THANK YOU! Empress, I'm glad you said this, because I was about it. I can't imagine someone going up to Tyka and actually asking that question. How fucking selfish and heartless! I'd slap a MFer if someone came up to me and challenged me as to why my mother was cremated instead of buried. (PS She died on April 21, 2012.)

On a non-emotional level, I sometimes believe that celebrities are cremated because it's a security concern. All too often graves have been desecrated and bodies are stolen. Why, I have no idea, other than obsessive fanaticism, that someone would want to steal a dead body. It's creepy A.F.

And the statement the OP said about "burned his son" is a bit harsh. It's the remains. The son is gone at that point, obviously. No soul, no spirit, no life. The life has transitioned, the body starts to decay right away. It's creepy to hang onto something so temporary.

It's really no one's concern if they equate cremation to hell (which is so ridiculous - do you not go around a camp fire or a BBQ grill or a fireplace????), or if a fan likes it or not. Prince was not your brother or son or father or husband or cousin. It's simply no one's business.
