Parade Vinyl re-issue - Wax re-production issues?

I bought the Parade Vinyl re-issue last week and had to bring it back. New position and Anotherloverholeinyohead kept skipping. It was pretty consistent, but I found on occassion if Ijust put the needle down on the track directly it was less pronounced.

I have the orignal which took me a while to track down and it is perfect. I brought the re-issue back to the store last night and got a replacement. The exact same thing is happening.

When I look closely at a distance in the right light, you can see small circles in the wax of about 1-2 centimetres. You have to catch the right angle and light to see.

It seems that there might be a bad production batch, so I will get a refund. I am dissappointed, but at least I have the original release (although the cover is cream not white, with age and sunlight I guess being 2nd hand) and it spins perfectly. I did think the sound of the re-issue was good, but there is no point in keeping something you can't listen too the whole way through. I was still trying to figure out if I can notice a differnce with the original.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering where it may have been pressed? I will also write to Warners on this. It would be useful to know if anybody else has had issue. I bought my copy in France. I don't know if the use different pressing plants per region or not. Please let me know if you have experienced this.

I am not going to rant and rave to them, but Prince and Parade deserve a better quality vehicle than this for the album. I bought Prince and For You re-issue and had no issues, as well as the Purple Rain, Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 re-issues a few years back - all goood.

Thanks in a advance for sharing your feedback.

Production in "E.U" (ashamed to assume Poland,Romania: I have nothing against those countries) that means not in Germany. Costs savings might impact quality...

That happened to me when I bought it in 1986. It was years before I heard them properly

Funny thing is that you will always remember the parts where it skipped. At least I do, when I listen to Positivity I still "hear" it skip where my Lovesexy LP did in '88 wink

.

But on topic; saw another post about bad vinyl re-issues yesterday, it's a shame that this happens.

But hey, there is a sticky about the fucking wall around PP. Because the forum is called "Music and More" and obviously the "music" part of that isn't as important as whining about some perceived injustice.

Do you know where? what the name of the company is? I would be interested in following up with them on this. Lightning doesn't strike twice so I would like to contact them. If nobody tells them, it won't be fixed. I only once had to return a new vinyl before, but twice the same one is too much of a conicidence.

What kind of a turntable are you using? I am so far ruling this out as it is the same spot on 2 different LP's and no other LP's causing problems. I am still open minded about potential cause, but probability still points to the LP itself. I remember a couple of people mentioning a problem like this on original pressings of LoveSexy. So far sounds like I am the only one experiencing this problem or they have only sold 2 (3) copies smile

I was also thinking about the grooves. It looks like on Anotherloverholeinyo head they are very close (squashed).

Hmm, it could be a mixture of turnatable and LP? who knows.

I've been having similar problems with Around the World and Controversy reissues (as well as other artists newer vinyl). I know it's my turntable/cartridge but there must be something with the new stuff that's different as this doesn't happen to ANY of my old vinyl.

Lol...a rare good point. It's time to bring music back to the forefront. In front of the nostalgia, gracelandish museum, hoary tributes and reality show rumor mill, should always be the MUSIC!!!

All of my reissues play fine on both of my tables, though I did send the first ATWIAD I received from Amazon back because of some marks on it (it played fine though).

Like others have said, could be the stylus/tracking weight/etc.

I rarely buy new vinyl, simply becuase so many modern day pressings are awful - very little in the way of quality control.

I know this may seem like a silly question but have you tried giving the record a good cleaning? A lot of people don't realize that new records can have a lot of dirt and mold on them simply from the manufacturing process. I don't always clean mine, but I have had some that skipped when new and after cleaning they stopped.

I've had no problems with my reissues. I listened to ATWIAD and Parade this morning and they sound fine. I'm no audiophile but ATWIAD in particular sounds crystal clear and more consistently mixed than Parade.

My first copy of around the world in a day had to be returned to amazon uk as America jumped and later on the record started to hum. second copy better but not perfect. I have a lenco l85, it might not be top spec in the record deck dept ???? I have all the other vinyls and they seem fine . my hit n run vinyls are hit n miss though

Someone on FB "warned" everyone about ATWIAD skipped.

It was noted that a lot of vinyl people these days buy some shitass Crosley turntable at Target and consider themselves a vinylophile. They're the worst things you could buy. Some record stores won't even guarantee their stuff if the user has a Crosley turntable. And while some argue they've since put out better turntables, I'd still not go near them. And for those with regular turntables, a simple adjustment to the counterbalance can fix an issue like that.

I would bet money it's not the record, but user error. If these are the NPG Records remastered reissues, I've not had a problem with For You and Prince. They play like a gem.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

^ I agree about the Crosley turntables and would rather wait till I could get a little bit more money together so I can buy something more decent. These turntables can damage records. I have spent too much money on vinyl over the years to see that happen to my little collection.

Although it's far from being the crem de la crem, I have an Audio Technica LP120 that I bought after doing some research and I am happy with that. Maybe one day when I'm flush with money I will get an upgrade.

No question is a silly question, but I have cleaned it. I have a cleaning kit and I always clean before the first listen and often afterwards. I am coming around to a mix of my turntable combined with the quality of the new pressings. Maybe a better quality turntable would noty react to this. But it was definitely, the same 2 songs on each copy. However, I have never experience this with any other new vinyl or any of the other Prince re-issues.

Audio Techica is a great brand. They do make lower end models, but even their higher end are just a couple of hundred. Jimmy Jam posted a pic of one A.T. sent Flyte Tyme, right around the time they were doing test pressings of Janet's "No Sleeep". He commented on how well it sounded (the vinyl, and the turntable). The turntable is around $400, which seems like a lot for a turntable, but if it's something you'll own for decades, it's a great investment.

Yes, music is as essential to me as food and water so I have no problem shelling out for good equipment. The only thing that bugs me is that what's priced at $400 for you in the US is invariably priced at £400 for me in the UK, we are always being ripped off!!! mad

Thanks for the info! Yeah I have three reissues and remasters and Lotus was the only one that was messed up. I read on discogs others complaining about some skipping on that one.

I seen those things and they are shady. *mad shade thrown at them box looking things*. Those are what we had as kids when our parents did not want us touching the good players!!! The recording off those were just as bad. The audio was flat, thin..didnt veen have a AV outlet lol. I agree however For You is amazing and so is Dirty Mind. No issue whatsoever.
