So happy with the "Under the Cherry Moon" Blu-ray

It sounds great, bass is strong, and the transfer is so cinematic, with grainy black and white film look preserved with no plastic digital clean up. It's detailed!

Can almost imagine I'm in a movie theater.

I forgot how much we used to quote this in college... especially "I wonder what tune she dance to?"

I totally agree! I watched half last night and finished it this evening. I had not watched UTCM in a long time. I was afraid I would find it too dated and silly but I am still just as, if not more, entertained by it than I ever have been.

The music sounds absolutely fantastic. The score is just beautiful. And as you said, the picture looks great with the grainy BW film. I am very excited by this release and am sure I will watch it many times.

I haven't watch the cherry moon bluray but I checked out the graffiti bridge bluray and it was VERY grainy.I thought we were suppose to get a really clear master of the film

Hope to receive my copy in the mail this week. I went to Best Buy last week and couldn't find a copy. Had to order it online. Looking forward to watching it in HD. Watched it last week on DVD because I wanted to see the music videos again-- Kiss, and especially, Girls & Boys, that are not included in the Blu, unfortunately.

I think there's a misunderstanding. The grainy film negative is the master quality, and film grain is considered cool enough that people artifically add it to their digital videos these days!

HD masters used to try to clean up the grain and that led to horrible blu-rays like the original "Predator" blu-ray. A weird plastic effect that got rid of all the grain, but looked horrible.

But I do remember Graffiti Bridge looking grainy in the theater. That's the orignal way it was shot.

It's the same thing with remastering albums. if you make a remaster that brings out details, it can also bring out analog things like the hiss on tracks, or obvious tape edits. That's all part of it.

Oh wow, it's tough to watch Purple Rain with the commentary on and realize just how intensely vibrantly great and creative it all was, all radiating from him. Very emotional to watch now as a hard core Prince fan, you know, the hard core kind of avoid Purple Rain because we soaked in that shit back then in 1984-85. Man that was on repeat (even the movie) all that year in high school. People dressing in trenchcoats, one guy even got a motorcycle.

But you know what can break a Prince fan? The end of Under the Cherry Moon, when that pure sound of joy and energy of Mountains comes on with Prince in "heaven".

Why not continue using the existing thread? And why isn't that thread a sticky anyway?

I looked up at the stickies and didn't see, and another thread I found had been closed off by moderation.

I didn't get that from the director commentary, i got that from alan lights book, how much Prince was involved in the actual movie, revising dialogue etc.., He was very hands on and seemed to be obsessed to the point where it had a life of its own, which i recognize as a creative type. the authors premise that PR was Prince focussed like he would never be again, i thought was a reach. Many people have tried to say he didn't work as hard after, but I never, never agreed. PR was his major pop triumph, that is the only thing that cannot be argued.

Well, still I would LOVE to see this movie in color.

Does it actually circulate ?

I wonder....

Maybe not, regardlesss, it's not how Prince intended it to be viewed. I, personally, love it in black and white. cool
