I wish he had released that album instead of the awful indigo nights, hopefully we will get to hear that album in the future smile

I always thought there was some form of official recognition that a Duluxe was on the way. Didn't Prince pull some tracks off the giveaway version near its release date for the very purpose of a later, 'full version' of the album?

I thought it was Prince himself that said the extended 'Laydown' would be coming on the full version, but I can't be sure where I heard that.

I though the other 'missing' tracks were Rich Friends, Cause & Effect, Hot Summer and Turn Me Loose, but I could well be wrong. Didn't keep a log of the info.

I happened across "Rich Friends" randomly on YouTube just now. It's indicative of 20Ten's sound in general. It's not that impressive per se. It has the same shuffle as "Hot Summer", which sounds like "Shake", which "Cream" ends up sounding like.

For me, I put "Hot Summer" (a slightly longer version) in my 20Ten track list, right before "Laydown". I also start the album with "Cause and Effect". It's a stronger beginning song, and works well into "Compassion". I didn't think to put "Turn Me Loose" in there since it was played in 2008 and it wasn't on my mind. But it sorta fits the sound.

Militant: I can't remember if I ever heard about 20Ten deluxe back then or not, but of course I love tidbits like this.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

That's what I understood too. This is possibly my most wanted album, I love those two tracks.

Do you have an actual source on this? Prince And The Band was performed in 2004 and had references to stuff that was going on in that era - it doesn't make much sense that he would ressurect that song for a project four years later.

20Ten's the only album of his that I revisited after his passing which I still feel the same way about it as when I first heard it. It's a pretty weak collection.

As far as I remember, this was a case of someone making an assumption (based on Turn me Loose performed on Leno, and the background that could have been artwork for a new project), and people building on that assumption later on, which became "so there was an album planned in 2008 which included Turn Me Loose, FUNK". I'm not sure there was any kind of insider info confirming this. Although you never know, it might be true and maybe the album was for real.

Well,he was performing various versions of the song later than that. The last time I heard him perform it (with slightly different lyrics) was in 2010, so it appears the song held his attention for some reason.

The source for this may have actually been Militant. He's usually very reliable in my experience. Not sure though.

Same here. Those tracks are killer. Was listening to 'Turn me Loose' loud the other day and lyrically it was reminding me of '82 Prince.

I don't see its relation to 2010 deluxe as it has a much more organic sound.

Lets hope the estate finds a way to release these less commercially viable albums to the hardcore.

Not sure if releasing all Prince's 'intended/abandoned albums is the right way to go, as many songs get bumped to the next record etc. maybe if they were released as an amazing box set of 'Lost Albums' that might catch the record buying audiences attention. but individually releasing 'cancelled' albums would not be popular imo.

Even Roadhouse Garden is only exciting to the hardcore fans. maybe it's just better to create a Vault series that deals with themes or eras. e.g. the Early years 1976-1979; Punk-Funk 1980-1982, Purple Reign 1983-1985 etc etc.

Big question is, imnsho:

.

Will we ever (soon) see and hear these songs from a commercial CD release by the Estate?

Can we put this idea (20ten deluxe) in their idea box?

The other track that of course falls smack in this era is Purple and Gold. Yes, it was written for a specific purpose, but we don't know if the 2010 deluxe was a full concept of the album or a put together of those studio months.

I remember listening to a Prince related podcast, and the guys actually talked to Prince about it. I remember specifically a bit about Prince telling them about a 10 minute version of Lavaux on 20Ten Deluxe.

Excellent post.

Yeah, I remember that. I also got bashed quite a bit here whenever I tried to let people know about inside Prince news. They always wanted me to name my source(s)...nope. Can't do that.

.

I posted that Prince had huge plans for 20ten, and that he was negotiating with WB. Then, stripped down the album, and the rest is history. I thought that ne didn't like how it was recieved, couldn't get the deal he wanted and walked.

Wasn't the Swell Tree Lens remix of "Hey Hannigan" going to be a bonus disk ? I think it was the "Too Long To Talk About 78 Minute VocaDub Dance Edit" or something.

THIS.

Someone once suggested the backdrop looked like an album cover and it snowballed from there. Last version I heard, Bria's album replaced the funk CD in the Lotus Flower set. Pure speculation, nothing more.

That's what I had heard as well - with Feel Good, Feel Better, Feel Wonderful also slated for that CD.

I dig 20Ten...looking back now it's the last time he indulged into the classic Linn sound besides Clouds & The Gold Standard on AOA. Would love to hear the deluxe version...

Don't forget there's a studio version from 2007 that was played on the PA before some of the 21 nights shows. A re recording of Sexy MF was played to.

They are on one of the 21 nights bootlegs. That eye records released. I can't remember the title. There audience recordings. Prince & The Band runs about 2 minutes it is a studio version. Very much like Musicology.
