I know this sounds weird but hearing other people do his songs and never getting to hear live clips of the actual Prince on these awards shows seems wrong to me. they are not celebrating the life of a great songwriter who was an average performer. They are celebrating (or should be anyway) celebrating the work of a great songwriter and performer. When Clapton dies, are people just doing to butcher "Layla" over and over again. the BET tribute might be as good as we get, but unless we see concert footage (like we did when Frank Sinatra died) than I don't see these as "proper tributes'. I hope the Revolution's tributes atleast provide nice stories and photos.

ALso, goddamn, someone please do a tribute that contains songs that are not just from the 1980's. Throw a bone to the 90's and 2000's. It is not like all this music was just dreck.

I have been watching that 2004 clip of The Question of U/ The One...awesome work. If they are not going to show footage of the actual Prince, than atleast they should do some research into his back catalogue a bit more. Someone do the Question of U.

Best tribute so far--Adele in Minnesota concert playing the "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" video.

Eight said! I agree with U. Prince didn't like it when someone cover or paly his songs no no no! and I can't n listen to the "Tribute" also. For me, it feels like pain in my ears. omg I it is still hard 4 me 2 hear his songs or watch videos with him. Since he passed away, I can't still look at any of his movies or clips. I can not do it. Too sad.

True, Adele paid him still best tribute!

Fdeluxe doing NC2U, with the AOA string ensemble sticking to Clare Fischer's arrangements,
was delicate and sensible.

This is beautiful. But it works because they originated the song.

Otherwise, no - I do not want to hear anyone else singing Prince's songs. Maybe someday that will change - but I doubt it.

Check out the Brit singer Natalie Williams live tribute remake of Love 2 the 9's...it's wonderful.

Nice! I've not seen this. I usually don't like people cobering his songs, but I think what I love the most is that they are playing with such joy and celebration. No sorrow. Just celebrating his music. Very nice, thank you for sharing.

Also, look up 'Power Fantastic' by Jazmine on youtube. She was 9 when she did this. She dedicated this to Prince. Even though it is not a tribute, it's still very sweet. I saw it a few years ago and sent her a message about how wonderful she is. She wrote me back and was such a sweetheart. Prince saw her video and invited her fam to one of his W2A shows. He was going to work with her when she turned 18. I didn't know he had even seen it until after April. He was so giving... This is mentioned in another thread but I think this is now a great tribute. Seeing little kids perform his music is very special. heart

I just remembered: there is this incredible singer who recorded himself on the webcam,
multi-tracked a capella, doing a medley.

This is incredible. Now THAT's a proper tribute.

As for the tributes before SKipper's passing,
there is this crazy japanese who replicated the Lovesexy tour,
brass bed and all. Anyone remembers his name?
Can't find his video on YT.

That L. Young guy is amazing! Thanks so much for mentioning him. I was feeling low all day today and this has totally cheered me up. touched

It really illustrates what us fans already knew...what a brilliant songwriter he was. The bridge in that song is so mesmerizing.

Was everyone in this thread happy the VMAs gave them what they wanted (or I guess didn't want)?

For me, it depends on the type of tribute. It's sad to hear anyone cover his songs because it justs points out again that Prince is gone. But... When have you ever heard of any musician passing and still being honored 4 months later? I love that the world still misses him too. I *want* this, because the alternative is silence and that's a state of being I can't consider yet.

I went to Spike Lee's tribute in Brooklyn in June and it was an amazing experience. The people and the spirit were everything. We knew Spike loved Prince and he put his whole heart into honoring his friend. The crowd, in turn, gave it right back. We knew who we were singing for, who we were dancing for, who we prayed for, who the tears were for. The crowd was every age and shade of the rainbow, from all over the country and world, and not one person held a thing back that day.

That's what you can get from a tribute--and it helps.
And the MUSIC continues...forever...

Yeah this ship has pretty much passed neutral My memorial is remembering Prince as the beautiful man he was and all the joy his music and adventures brought to my life. I cry more than I thought I would. Emotions are still very close to the surface.

Peace. Love. Prince
