Misleading thread title.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

One time when I was younger, maybe 16-17 I was at Subway with a friend and it was only the two of us in the restaurant at the time. There was a black SUV that pulled up and walked in three men, two very large body guard looking men, and a short man that looked very much like Prince in a black trench coat . My friend and I kept looking asking each other if we thought it was Prince. Because it certanly looked like him! But why would he be in a Subway in a small central Wisconsin town? They got their subs and left. I to this day am kicking myself for not looking closer or asking him. But I'm a shy person and didn't want to embarrass myself.

Well he did like Subway sandwiches! There is the anecdote which John Blackwell Jr told a radio station shortly after Prince's passing, about the time when Prince ordered John a lettuce and onion Sub (tasty!) lol

So it's not at all beyond the realms of possibilities that it was indeed Prince you saw...

If it was that would have been the only time I saw him. I never got the opportunity to see him in concert. Which makes me incredibly sad. cry

When was that? (You could easily check to see when he would have been on the road at that time.)

Interesting question. I saw someone in Chanhassen who resembled him a couple of years ago (may or may not have been, not sure). He was driving a purple Prowler. I looked over only because the car was so flashy/uncommon - no doubt headed to Paisley, but over the years I'd usually seen him in some type luxury sedan or with a driver, so (although the driver looked like him) it didn't even occur to me right away. Only recently saw the beautiful pics from the early 90's of him with a purple Prowler at the arboretum (I was way too young at the time to have seen/remembered), but:

A) don't know if he actually owned that car and

B) if he did own the car, figured he must have sold it by now.

Anyhow, I've wondered ever since. Growing up I was taught "never to stare at Prince because it's rude". "How would you like it if people stared at you?". 100% true and carried that into my adult life. Clearly. :-/

One of the times I saw Prince was at a Dunkin' Donuts in Montreal around midnight.

Late 90s. I did look a little bit ago actually, he had a few concertd in Milwaukee so it's possible they drove instead of flying. We're about half way between Milwaukee and twin cities.

Oh god that is the nastiest sounding combo EVER. Of course, this has nothing to do with the fact that uncooked onions make me want to claw my eyes out. Or the fact that I hate the taste of raw onion. Or the smell of them. I'd've been like, lil man, you're gonna switch those onions to tomatos or I am gonna tie you to a pole. I am not eating that. falloff

Also, there's this guy I see around Chicago fairly often who is a darker-skinned twin of Prince, down to the height and everything. It's always a bit startling. biggrin

I've seen Prince Many times in nightclubs from Paris to NYC.

The first time was at 'Nells' on 14th street in NYC.

Y'all not being sure if you saw P, even though it's highly likely that you did but didn't realize it, reminds me a story I saw on YouTube.

I forget the celebrity, but he's famous and he went out in public with Michael Jackson. He expected MJ to get mobbed by fans, but no one bothered them. When he mentioned it, MJ said, "They don't expect to see me so they think I'm an impersonator."

Lol

Okay now this has me tripping. I was at the first Revolution reunion show at First Ave years ago. There was an amazing looking impersonator in the crowd, hanging out and dancing with everybody.

What if that wasn't an impersonator? What if it was him, enjoying the show and the band was in on it? That would be awesome.

Oh I could very well be wrong about the onions - my memory isn't always what it once was! But it's a funny anecdote which John told - when I'm home from work I'll see if a I can find the link again...

Found the link - the Subway story starts around the 32 minute mark (although I'd recommend listening to the whole thing as it's an interesting interview with John!)

I've never been so lucky to see Prince "in-person". Then again, I don't live in Minneapolis either. cool

No. You weren't wrong, John definitely said that P ordered them EACH a 6 inch sub on whole wheat with ONLY lettuce and onion. John even asked, "No mayo?"

P said, "No, John. If you eat like me, you'll look like me".
