New topic PrintableThank you to Tyka and OP for sharing this info.
As I did the NPG reunion, and am doing the Revolution reunion, I'm not sure if I can swing another trip to MPLS, but I'm looking forward for more information in the coming months. [Edited 7/21/16 19:45pm] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

It would be cool if a fan started a Gofundme page or something and organized a real fan tribute one day. We were just as important to him as his family, if not more so. I bet we could get at least $50 from each fan. Think of the party we could have. We would probably have enough to hire a few bands like The Time and The Revolution. Or at the very least, a Prince cover band.

I will never get over loosing Prince. I am glad tho that finally some memorial service is being planned, for the fans/fans. Especially for those who are still grieving. They say some die of a broken heart within 6 months of the passing of their loved one. It's half way to those six months, and in case any of us don't make it, thanks to all who shared in the ride. Despite our differences, Prince brought us altogether with his huge heart, and all the love he gave to the world. Long live the Love and Joy Prince gave to us that can never be taken away. 2Gether 4Ever

Yep, I feel the same Thank you Prince for every note you left behind ๐

that sounds a bit dramatic !! I can understand if we were close to Prince or family and as broken hearted as I have been, I dont feel I need to leave this earth yet and I hope most of us are dealing with it a little better now Thank you Prince for every note you left behind ๐

As great as that sounds, I think it would not work because where do you have it? Some would miss out, we are a global Prince community, some of us (like me in Australia) would miss out - and the family will have some money in the end to do a Tribute and I suspect they are not going to be left without anything?
And the reality is, Prince kind of caused this mess - if he had a will things would not be so messed up, or if it surfaced it would be so wonderful......... "Chaos and Disorder" - has a new meaning !! Thank you Prince for every note you left behind ๐

It's just too much. Since April 21st, there hasn't been a moment of piece in my head or a day without tears. I can't get past the image of my beautiful dad taking his last breath, nor can I get pass the thought of my beautiful Prince being in that elevator all alone and needing help and no one was there. my heart is with you..my dad passed over also, service this Saturday...gotta love as we live each day everyday... I think I agree with those who say that BET did it for me, in terms of closure. I've come to accept his tragic death and I'm at the stage where I just feel grateful for having seen him live so many times and having been a fan for so many years, which allowed me to build a great collection. [Edited 7/22/16 2:40am] If Tyka still plans to put on a fan/public memorial, I wish her well in that endeavor, and appreciate her efforts. I know this must be such a stressful time. . I'm sure not over it or even close to being over it. I'm coming terms with it more but yes some of the raw emotion has faded over time, of course. That's how the mourning process works. . But I"m glad they are still doing this and I hpe it's a big success.

. I think she's doing the best she can, considering that *everything* has to be cleared with the courts. Imagine the licensing issues for music, images, performers, etc. on a normal basis but now having to go through several layers of attorneys and courts.
Some of the comments to her on her FB page were rudely accusatory and/or cruel. She doesn't deserve any of that. We should be supportive. . Welcome to "the org", laytonianโฆ come bathe with me.

It is great that the family and friends are finally getting the memorial that he deserves and that is needed for this grieving process. I really feel like the fans need a "memorial" also. A "tribute" is great, but many of us feel as close to Prince like he was our family and a solemn and respectful memorial is necessary. I hope that the estate does this for his fans, who Prince loved dearly as well.

i wish them well in their endeavor. i hope they go for "heartfelt" not "big". it should have been more timely but i can't imagine being in their position. Prince #MUSICIANICONLEGEND

In a situation like this you're dealing with estate law as pertaining to legal rights, interests and entitlements to intellectual properties, ect. It's a legally compicated situation, and I imagine not having proper heirs in place at the time of his passing certain didn't help.

You've always been one of my favorite orgers because of your love for UTCM and that era. Does your post mean that you didn't expect it to turn out this way, and that they haven't included fam at all in the memorial plans? (Don't want to put words in your mouth, so wanted to ask.) I personally am really disappointed that the TBA fam event looks like it might be a tribute concert instead of a memorial. I really thought from the beginning that we would be able to attend a memorial event even though it would also be a concert.

[Edited 7/22/16 2:40am] I'm glad you've got closure but she's Prince's sister, so for that reason I will support her endeavours and wish her well. I won't be able to attend, another global fan, but I'll watch it somehow if it's streamed anywhere, even if I have to pay. Baby, you're a star.

I wish I felt as though the BET Awards tribute was enough, but, to be completely honest, it just wasn't, certainly not for an unparalleled musical artist, composer, arranger, producer, and performer such as Prince. [Edited 7/22/16 17:36pm] [Edited 7/22/16 23:06pm] TheFrenchRedHead

So....maybe I'm not up on memorial etiquette but...why have 2 seperate services for family and friends? Space can't be an issue since they have PP.

Give me ten million memorials. It's okay by me. Honor him every month. That's fine too. I could never get enough of celebrating Prince...

I have nothing against this memorial, nor did i say/imply that in my comment? Just reinforcing the idea that, for me, BET did and I feel like I had closure. And that I'm grateful for the music. People really need to stop reading antagonism and conflict everywhere.

Tyka did also post on her Facebook months ago that something unexpected impeded a timely memorial for him. She mentioned that the only reason that they did the little acknowledgement service at Paisley two days later was because guests had already flew in for the by-then postponed funeral. She also mentioned that she supported the other memorials (Mayte/Mani's LA event), but made it clear that they weren't family productions and that she felt that only one family event was appropriate. I know that his assets were frozen, but I don't necessarily think that the reasons for delay were strictly financial--the city of Chanhassen or even Warner Brothers could have offered to pay for a lavish funeral (he generated a lot of revenue for both entities). Whatever it was, probably isn't atypical to Prince's lack of will. Michael Jackson also didn't receive an actual funeral until months later---in September after dying in June even with a will. The family just couldn't agree where to inter him, so that might be the issue with all these siblings and half-siblings, potential heirs involved with Prince. I'm like Mariah Carey though..."I'll never get over it." [Edited 7/23/16 13:07pm]

...how 'bout.... getting motivated to "afford it" and/or "get a job"? That's just Nuts, we know.

Also, no one apart from a professional, large scale venue can afford to insure a fan event properly against, ya know, crime, or claims of accidents and injuries on a(ny) property eiither by guests or folks working an event. And the estate damn sure should Not open itself up to that kind of liability. But no one here dreaming up ideas takes into account those sorts of every day realities.
