Question To Men - Do Prince Love Songs Do Anything For You?

.
.
I keep reading posts about how people love all these love songs Prince puts out there. I just assume they are all the women and girls that frequent this forum.
.
As a straight man who is also married these slow songs do absolutely nothing for me. But even when i was single i couldn't get into them. I loved his funky, rock and quirky songs about sex, love and relationships.
.
I'm talking about songs like Do Me Baby, Slow Love, Scandalous, When 2 R In Love, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Sometimes It Snows In April, songs of that ilk. I can't listen to them.
.
Are all the men out there of similar frame of mind or am i on an island here?
.

every song he did was not about gender. it was about a feeling. he or u didn't need to understand. feelings r abt ppl. be a person and be proud of who u r!!!! but....be good to others...even if they r not like u!!!! respect!!!!

I've never even thought about it before. I'm a man who's always enjoyed his love songs. A song like Adore is beyond sublime.

It sounds like you think you can only get into these songs if you believe Prince is singing directly at you, i.e. you need to be the object of his sexual desire. I've never listened to his songs like that. It's more like he's singing on my behalf at the object of my sexual desire. Otherwise, I simply enjoy them for their musical, vocal and lyrical brilliance.

Yeah, Adore was great. And you have me completely wrong. Condition Of The Heart, The Beautiful Ones, Forever In My Life, I Will are some of his best songs. I don't need to think he's singing to me, yuck. The other songs i mentioned before are just slow plodders.

That's crazy -- some men just don't like romantic songs. I personally love many of his ballads, he wrote some of the best ever but don't ask me to sit through a romantic movie, it's an eye-roll festival for me.

That said the OP is hilarious for asking if "all the men out there" share his feelings, very butch question sir!

It has never been my favourite side of his music either, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that I can't listen to his slow songs. Do Me Baby is fantastic. That vocal- wow! Adore is also good, but ever since then, all those slow jams sound the same. Scandalous, Insatiable, Satisfied...if you've heared one, you've heared them all.

Of course they do. I don't need to think of them as "him singing them to me", as obviously I can just think of being the guy that sings them to the woman. It's not more complicated than that.

"Sometimes It Snows In April" isn't a love song, btw. It's a song about the death of the character he portrayed in the UTCM movie.

As original post, i'm straight/married. I just love the music, what more can you say? They don't get me horny or anything! His music is beautiful though, don't mattee what sex you are.

OK, so it's not about being male, straight and married, it's just that you don't like "slow plodders". For me, these kinds of songs are usually all about his delivery and the interplay of the layered vocals, perhaps that's not something that floats your boat. I even like the two tracks you listed that tend to be more divisive: Slow Love and When 2 R In Love.

In the case of Sometimes It Snows In April, it's less about his voice and more about the space, the creak of Wendy's guitar strings, the delicate touch of Lisa's piano and the overall sentiment. I have to say that I never truly got it until I experienced death first-hand, though.

Many of my male friends who are Prince fans seemed to view his slow songs as "set the mood" songs. The women dug it, so the men played into Prince's romantic delivery. Plus, Prince had a unique way of conveying sensual, romantic, freaky, nasty stuff in a way that wasn't vulgar.

I'm a man that fully enjoyed Prince's ballads/love songs. They set the mood and sometimes were really saying what I was feeling at the time. Certain songs remind me of who I was with and still brings back feelings and emotions.

I agree. You don't have to be a woman to be pasionate about Prince songs. Certain songs bring us back to a place we once were in our lives. Brings us memories and thoughts of the people that have impacted our loves, and have influenced who we are today.

I think there are really incredible Prince love songs that for me are the truest rawest Prince - Do Me Baby, Beautiful Ones and Adore come immediately to mind. They are the shining untouchable pinnacle of Prince - and they'll last forever. There is NOBODY else who can do that on record. Nobody. Period. I shake my head in awe at the intensity of them - I can definitely see how they aren't for everyone - I'm so glad I get to love those songs though.

As a man The Beautiful Ones always gets me , it means so much to me a lot of happy memories attached to that song. Shivers down the spine the odd tear everytime i play it. Not many songs get me like that. heart

As a married man The Beautiful Ones gets to me as well. It's one of the most haunting songs he ever did. The Question Of U is magnificent as well, mostly because of the guitar solo. I like songs like Slow Love and Do Me, Baby. I absolutely love Under The Cherry Moon and Sometimes It Snows is beyond this world. Although the latter is a ballad but not exactly a love song. But the love songs sung in falsetto aren't my favorites.
Adore and When 2 R In Love are good songs, but I've heard better.
Love songs like The Arms Of Orion and Scandalous don't do it for me, to be honest.
Too smooth for me.and I prefer the ones with a haunting climax.

Start with the sweet love songs, then some more up tempo songs leading to the nasty stuff and finally some relaxed tunes. Marathon sex guaranteed, even when girls aren't that much into Prince. lol

This x1000. Adore is a masterpiece. When I close my eyes and listen to the various layers and each unique transition in the song, I am mesmerized by the music and I think of the people I have loved with that intensity: wife, children, girlfriends, etc. I never think Prince is singing to me - he is using his master voice and talents to sing and unlock emotions within me for me. Big, big difference.

Yes - the vocal delivery on Do Me, Baby is perfect. And International Lover is so cheeky I can't help but smile every time I hear it. Besides, I always told myself if I ever met a woman who could make me scream the way Prince screams at the end of International Lover, I'd mary her in a second!

Mentioned this in the What Year thread, but Do Me, Baby was thee song that Prince first emotionally crippled me with smile. My affinity for his slow jams knows no bounds, really, but to this day I've never heard another song (from any musician) that captures the feeling of longing and desire with as much power as Do Me, Baby.
