Nope, I agree. There is nothing self-serving about Sheila E.'s grief--it is real. Like the rest of us, she probably thought there was plenty of time to mend bridges...and there suddenly wasn't. A lesson for all of us. I just watched Kevin Smith's podcast on Prince...and he was breaking down emotionally, stating he had regrets for things he said in the past and not having mended bridges (not his exact words). It was very heartfelt... He said he had matured so much since the time he spent with Prince; he almost started weeping when he recalled how Prince spoke to and danced with his daughter. If they were on the outs, then why would she say they talked about 8 months ago. The truth is we don't know what was going on with them. I love Prince and Sheila! Of course, I love Prince more so if I thought she was using this time as a way to make money, I wouldn't be defending her. I haven't purchased the song because I didn't see it on iTunes but I think it's a nice song and the video as well. If she just wanted to make money then she wouldn't let us hear the song for free. I believe what Sheila says. I don't get any insincere vibes from her. Besides, she and Prince had falling outs before in the past and always mended bridges and ended up performing with each other again. Besides that, I met her in person after a concert and she seemed like a very genuine, caring person to me. A strong-willed person in control of her own life...in much the same way as Prince. Sooo, I only heard a little snippet of the song when she did an interview, I forget where. It was such a small clip but it sounded good. I thought it was just me. Considering the intertwining of their histories, and their connection, the song didn't seem to reflect the depth, longevity or the essence of the relationship. This is by no means shade, I love Sheila. It just felt a bit rushed is all. | |

i listened to the song twice...I like it it was heart fealt and made me cry. Consider this: she was 21 he was 20 they had a six month age difference when they met...they had both known about each other's talents prior to their meeting. Think back when you were that age...a boy and a girl now, fast forward to now. Think about the journey they had together, they were friends and perhaps lovers....the relationship and electric energy they shared is a once in a lifetime deal...I enjoyed the song she wrote it for Prince I believe. When people we love pass we are reminded of our own mortality it makes us think...heal Sheila his love reigns down....ok enough I'm gonna listen to her song Mona Lisa ..it's a bit funky and I enjoy the lyrics . I loved her performance on BET and sat down to see and listen to this song with all good feelings towards her. But I had to stop it before the end.
