Whew! This is a tough one.

My top TWO will always be Prince and Darren Hayes (Savage Garden and beyond).

Other faves will include:

Remy Shand - Canadian, reminds me of P a bit with his vocal range and skills with the instruments - he completely played/produced/arranged his whole album like Prince would).

Counting Crows

Gavin Degraw

Mariah Carey

Elton John

Maxwell

George Michael

Justin Timberlake

Janet Jackson

OneRepublic

Maroon 5

Celine Dion (90s)

Michael Jackson

Aerosmith

Bob Marley

Tarrus Riley

Rihanna

Sean Paul

>>> I'm hella into all 90s and early 2000s music STILL - Brandy, Monica, 112, Black Eyed Peas, Missy E, Eve, Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Will Smith - the list goes on forEVER!

Elvis Presley

(My dad is a huge Elvis fan and now his music is also one of my favorites. Smooth as silk voice and catchy, upbeat songs as well as the memorable love themes.)

Marilyn Manson

(Interesting vocals and sound. This guy really has some talent lyrically and has some rather romantic themes despite a rough and tough presentation at times. He evolves about every album he does and it's always interesting.)

.

This is definitely the first time I have seen Elvis and Marilyn Manson together on the same "favorites" list... wink

LOL, yeah, my musical tastes are pretty diverse. Elvis has one up on Marilyn though since I have Elvis Christmas music on full rotation at Christmas time and Marilyn can't say that. smile

Contemporaries only, in no particular order

artists:

Frank Zappa

John Lennon

Bob Dylan

Miles Davis

David Bowie

bands:

The Beatles

REM

The Smiths

The Boo Radleys

Radiohead, probably

artists easier to compile, they're all great and didn't turn shit at age 30 or younger; bands harder to pick bc there are so many ones close to great.

OMG Remy Shand is amazing. I remember being in middle school and my mother had an album from him. I believe it was "Take a Message for my love" or something. Good shit.

Good to see I am not the only Paul Weller fan here. For me, he is absolutley the greatest living English songwriter. He reminds me of Prince not for his music, but how he evolved his own musical sytle throughout his career. Saturns Pattern was brilliant.

It's not only hard. It takes years.
or It could be some of those artists i grew up listening when i was little and still hold to it.

I like to discover new music in my spare time. so yeah it's not hard. lol

BlueLantern

Jack Bruce (especially the Cream/Clapton/Baker era, and with Robin Trower)

Van Hunt

D'angelo

Hendrix (particularly the first three records with the excellent team Redding/Mitchell, i'm not very fond of the posthumous releases).

Aside from those four artists, i could quote James Brown, Bryan Ferry, the late Paul Gilbert (influenced by Frank Zappa), Derek Trucks...
