I'm surprised but super happy to see PM Dawn twice in those lists, they released real deep things, particularly the Dear Christian... album (it's a virtual tourbook of what goes inside a depressed person's mind - and I know because when I was in depression I felt everything I felt was in there!).

.

I'd have a hard time choosing only 5 artists out of my near 5000 albums collection, but long time favorites have been:

Bill Laswell

Kate Bush

Akiko Yano

George Clinton and everything P-Funk

Ryuichi Sakamoto

Goldfrapp

Eurythmics

Thomas Dolby

.

But I feel this list above is like totally absurd because not representative at all of what I listen to on a daily basis, I'd need a "what are your top 50 favorite artists" thread instead lol

I like this thread as I need to get interested in something new music-wise. I'm having a hard time listening to anything but Prince right now. But these have been some other favorites (as in I've owned their music or attended their shows):

*Seriously. If you haven't listened to Tower of Power, you should. Prince counted "What is Hip" among his favorite other-artist songs. Listen to "Down To The Nightclub" and then to Prince's "Family Name" and you can hear the TOP influence all over it, and other songs in Prince's catalog.

According to Maxwell in the recent Essence Prince set him a message to put out new music. Now we have Lake By the Ocean and a new album on Friday. I hope its a good as the last and I can thank Prince for putting that bug in Maxwell's ear.
