Excellent!!!

Glad to know I'm not the only freak on the side who thinks this song is the craziest little ditty!

I'm not a huge sing-a-long kinda guy...

But this song does it to me every time!!!

Just transports me to another world-lips-space-face

The killer line for me is when he stutters... "I, I, I don't lie to you"

Just cracks me up! He was a funny nutter!!! lol

1. Mountains (Pop perfection... How was this not a bigger hit???)

2. Venus De Milo (I know it's super-short, but just beautiful and perfect!)

3. Girls & Boys (Playful and super-catchy... a likely hit if it was released as a US single imo)

4. Anotherloverholeinyohead (So much fun... and awesome title phrase!)

5. Life Can Be So Nice

6. Sometimes It Snows In April

7. Under the Cherry Moon
8. Kiss (Expertly crafted pop/funk for what it is... style's just not a personal fave of mine)

9. Christopher Tracy's Parade

10. Do U Lie?

11. I Wonder U

12. New Position

One of the few P albums where I truly like all the songs. That said, there's a drop-off for me after #9. I enjoy "Do U Lie?" "I Wonder U" and "New Position" but I could still kinda take or leave them without it being a big deal to me. The top 9 on my list are all songs I really dig.

Hello, first post here! Go easy on me

Mountains – It’s hard to pick a favourite but Mountains never fails. Album version or the 12” cut. Both great. Not a overly commercial song, surprised it was chosen as a single.

Do U Lie – Wonderful, strange little ditty, have always loved this song since hearing it aged 10 and listening to my first Prince album (which happened to be Parade) in 1986.

Anotherloverholenyhead – Rocky, but funky too, and a fairly mature lyric despite the rather silly title. Great song, disappointingly ignored by Prince after ’86, though he never cared for the Parade album, did he?

Girls & Boys – Finally side 1 gets a look in! Possibly his purest funk song, would probably of made the top, but it does outstay its welcome slightly. Should have been a minute shorter

SISIA – Moving, stark, and quite a departure from the man. Not many of his ballads before this weren’t about sex, except for perhaps Free.

I Wonder U – I love weird Prince, and this is one of his strangest ones

UTCM – Often overlooked, great ballad

Kiss – Overplayed? Certainly. Ruined by a succession of poor cover versions? No doubt. However, I never loved Kiss as much as others it seems. Good song, just not a personal favourite.

New Position – Yeah it’s ok, bit jarring though. Naughty, very naughty.

Christopher Tracy’s Parade – More of a preprise, almost like a nursery rhyme. Does its job

Venus De Milo – Pleasant enough piano workout

Life Can Be So Nice – Too much going on, rubbish chorus. Very average for a man this talented. Should of taken this one off and allowed the Mountains 12” version on the album, or bring in Love Or $

1st post to the org? Welcome. It seems that so many people love most if not all the songs On Parade, I doubt you need to worry about being attacked for your list. I hope someone has a more informed answer for you regarding your question about Prince not caring about the Parade album.

This is why I love Prince, and an album like Parade in particular. I couldn't agree more with half of what you've written, and I couldn't disagree more with the other half..... and yet we both love the album. That's what great music can do. Excellent first post. You know what you like and what you don't, even if you're wrong about some of it razz

Joking of course, it's all subjective...but you love Do U Lie? so you're okay by me biggrin

Well thank you! I should point out though, even though New Position and Kiss are towards the bottom of the list, they are still solid 8/10 songs for me. Parade is one of my favourites, and it holds a special place as it was my first Prince album, and it totally reeled me in!

However, Life Can Be So Nice is still one of the worst songs of his from the 80;s! razz

nuts omfg Now you're just being silly, lol. How can a song with the lyric 'Scrambled eggs are so boring...' be anything other than one of the greatest songs of all time? Well, maybe it's not quite THAT good.... but come on, there were a LOT of terrible songs in the 80's.

I remember my dearly departed mother popping her head round my bedroom door as the 17 year old me sang along at the top of my voice to 'No one plays the clarinet the way you play my heart' and her looking at me with that generation gap kind of look, wondering what in God's name I was listening to. She always thought Prince was weird and that only made me love him, and these off-beat songs all the more biggrin

You've now got me on a crusade to find the worst songs of the 80's.
