god, what an album, i still don't get what the hell people are complaining about when they say he lost the funk. I miss that man.

People who say he lost the funk are funked up! He had it all the way up to his very last Atlanta show. Man, I loved how soulful he was. I still think you can find something to love on every single album he put out.

I'm reading some of the replies and just can't believe people are putting Christopher Tracy's Parade and Life Can Be So Nice at the bottom of their lists - two of my favourite Prince tracks ever! The Parade album is perfection. The only thing I can say is that Girls & Boys is probably my least favourite song on it.

Agreed, Life Can Be So Nice is my 2nd most played off that album! Disagree w/ you on Girls & Boys, love that track too

I actually love how much disagreement there is on here about the best tracks. Shows was a great album this was and how each song speaks to people differently. I change my opinion a lot, but Parade is generally either my top #1 or #2 Prince album. Honestly not a throwaway on the album.

For me, Christopher Tracy's Parade sounds more like a film soundtrack than standalone song, while Life Can Be So Nice isn't one I replay that often - just personal taste.

I had Christopher Tracy's Parade as my mp3 alarm tone for weeks after the first time I got a semi smart phone. Then I thought - "hang on, this isn't techno enough", so I changed it to an AFX MEN01 CD remix.

Was woken up by an AFX MEN01 CD remix once and thought "there's no way I'm doing that again" and switched back to the default alarm setting.

I get it about the "showtunes". For me, I value them in part that it was so different than anything he had done before. Given that the biggest reason why I love prince is for his endless creativty and refusal to just do the same thing over repetitively, those songs are another wonderful example of this.

I have been listening to Parade for the past 4 days, and have been feeleing guilty. How could I have rated Anotherholenyihead as 6th best when it clearly is brilliant. Then, I would at other times feel guilty about other lowly rated great songs. Its like ranking your kids. One might say either you don't do it or it depends on the day. I just wanted to clarify to Parade's songs: Daddy loves you all

3. Do U Lie? - Prince's vocals

4. Venus De Milo - It's a beautiful piece and it reminds me of Purple Rain for some reason

5. Kiss - Classic but I have to agree with someone else that it really doesn't fit with the album

6. Mountains - It's a song that builds up the moment which is quite exciting but doesn't really "hit" as much as I'd like it to

7. Sometimes It Snows In April - Would've listed it higher as it's one of Prince's most beautiful songs but now it's too sad...

8. Christopher Tracy's Parade - Great album intro for sure

Sure, I just think that they are a bit too silly in the end. I like the live instrumental versions of "Under The Cherry Moon" more than the studio vocal version. "The Question Of U" to me is a more successful take on the same type of musical ideas that he used on "Under The Cherry Moon". "Do U Lie?" starts in a really silly way, but becomes more elegant when the W&L vocals are introduced. "Venus De Milo" I've always liked for what it is and used to play it on the piano myself (can't remember how to play it anymore though).

I mean, I like them, but not so much that I couldn't imagine the album to have something else instead of those tracks on it too. "Venus De Milo" is the one I like the most and I think Prince did prove something about his skills by including a composition like it on the album.

The only reason I have SISIA last, isn't because I don't like the song. In fact, I love it; it's gorgeous. I just don't think I'll ever be able to listen to it again. ...And I haven't since the weekend following Prince's passing when I watched UTCM.

Wow thanks for the stats gandorb! Anotherloverholenyohead is so bad ass! I love this album and love that people like you all get it. I know Prince has a shit ton of material to go over, and I like all his albums I find something to love on each. But this time period was just so special UTCM/that movie (sorry I like this movie mainly due to Parade), and then SOTT followoing this. The 30year anniversary of when Under the Cherry Moon premiered is this Sun July 3rd...it came out 7/3/1986. Man time flies when u r having fun!
