ya, in poplife the book, Hill mentions that scene where the old black woman scares christopher and asks him where he's been. that was a pretty insulting scene for his own. Dude coulda been a good filmaker though, i'm sure, no one complains about sott.

Prince didn't direct SOTT.

he's listed as director with albert magnoli who I doubt really had much creative input.

I'd say that SOTT is much closer to Purple Rain in pacing than it is to Graffiti Bridge.

Meaning, pacing, story, sets, liveshots -- you see Magnoli's touch on both films. You see Prince's too, but I've never felt that Prince actually directed the film.

Off topic, I would love to hear what Magnoli would have done to change "Graffiti Bridge." I bet there would be some funny responses. Such as, "Come back after you've shredded the script." Or, "Don't make this movie." The shooting of the supposed live scenes were not believable -- as a fan, you hated lipsyncing and that was clearly what was going on. Made it impossible to get into the music. You believed that he was performing live in PR and SOTT. I just don't have anything at all positive to say about that movie lol

oh, sorry, i thought magnoli was one of p's managers. he had three italian managers they used to call spaghetti incorporated, i get all them fuckers mixed up. Prince went through a ton of people in his career.

I liked too liked UTCM in B&W, and love the scenery in Nice, OMG. That movie made me want to go to France and I even took French in H.S. because of that film and the dang Parade album (no joke). But Prince was only 27 when he directed this film, and with him not having any real experience other than acting and contributing to Purple Rain, UTCM is not bad considering. The music makes it for me, and the humor between Prince and Jerome. This is the first time his fans got to witness his funny side and I couldn't get enough. And yes the clothes in UTCM are bad ass. Still 30 years later the fashion was tight. I loved the 20's/30's throwback as well. Man sorry y'all I love this film. But maybe I am biased because the Parade and SOTT albums have a special connection for me. This timeframe is when Prince started to heavily influence my musical tastes and everything. It's like your first boyfriend/girlfriend, you never forget that time and the feeling. So UTCM does that for me, along with SOTT music film!

Bwahahahahah! I took French in HS for the SAME exact reason. I remember quoting some of the French from the movie and my teacher refusing to translate it for me. I still don't know what is said at the beginning of Do You Lie?

Why oh why did he not go to Spain? Spanish would have been a way better choice for me.

So funny- glad I am not the only one!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I ADORE this movie. I haven't been able to watch it since his passing, not just because of the end scene but because of all the memories I have attached to it. I believe I have multiple VHS copies of it because I wore thru the tapes. I would tape record lines from the movie just so I could hear his voice talking. Voice of an angel.

I miss you dear sweet Prince!
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.
