I don't think wanting a public memorial is selfish. Prince had millions of fans. A public memorial would be a celebration of this wonderful man's life. A $2000 funeral isn't really fitting for a man who meant so much to so many people. It's absolutely mind-boggling that nothing has been done in Minneapolis to celebrate this man's life. I live in LA and the city of Los Angeles had a free public memorial at City Hall for Prince. Thousands of people showed up and this isn't even his hometown.

I don't have a problem with /wanting/ one, to be clear. It's the constant agitating and demanding that the family absolutely MUST DO IT BECAUSE DAMMIT WE'RE OWED attitude that's starting to grate on my nerves. And the cruel, unkind, and unnecessary attacking of this family also bothers me to no end. I mean, why must fams treat these people like slaves to respond to the fans' will, as though they're not people deserving of a little distance and respect?

All this hatred and vitriol that spills out everywhere is just... why? Why are people so nasty to a group of people they don't even know? Admittedly, there are times here when /I've/ been deliberately nasty at others here, especially when I see these constant attacks -- and nope, I don't think I've been right with my tone, either, to be perfectly honest -- against people they don't even know and don't have a right to expect anything of, it really just makes me want to start baging heads together until people get their shit together.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, blakbear.

I thought one of his brother's said Prince treated him just like a brother would, like a brother. Also, it has been said that Tyka would be seen at PP even at the last gathering. I think he was good with some family members and that tells me they have his best interest at heart. Do u miss him? I do. PRINCE4EVER!!!!

My thoughts...
Paisley Park is still tied up due to an ongoing police investigation. I'm thinking the family was told it would be cleared up by August, hence the planning of a memorial then. The only way to accommodate all the people that would be anticipated would be to hold it outdoors. That takes time.
His sister was at PP the Saturday before he passed. He had just had a near death experience a couple of days before, and I'm thinking he talked to her about his final wishes. I believe she's doing exactly what she was told to do.
How do we know that his family hasn't had a private memorial/funeral? They aren't speaking publicly so we don't know what went down. But to question if they care or not because they aren't doing what YOU think they should do is wrong.
Call me selfish, but my only hope is when/if they do have a memorial, tickets are made available to MN peeps first, especially if it's at the new stadium and not outdoors somewhere!! You know anytime anything Prince related happens here, people lose their damn minds and come in from everywhere and we end up out in the cold

Thanks for this post. Gives me some understanding.

It is odd how things have transpired since Prince overdosed. I think the criminal investigation is part of the issue. It concerns me that Kirk was welcomed at the PP memorial. Maybe he wasn't the only one helping Prince procure meds, idk??? But nobody has gone Pat Houston v Nick Gordon on his azz. It's as though they know something. I don't think we will know the truth until there is a criminal trial.

That's presuming criminal charges even being filed.

I think it would be more bizarre if Kirk wasn't at the PP memorial. He WAS the manager of the facility. Tyka had charge of Prince's remains at the time, but I really do not think that she would have had the desire or ability to terminate or disbar any of his staff from that campus. Kirk was friends with P for 30 years, so he likely has been friends with Tyka for just as long. A person's long-term friends and family members usually intermingle.
