the one thing he didn't have, just my opinion, was great songs. Outside of baby, all the album did was showcase his musicianship, his potential as a producer but I never thought the songs were good. boy did he fix that with the next album, a good 80 percent of it was simply amazing.

Again, this is subjective of course, we all experience his music differently, but for me, I can listen to the For You album start to finish and it is a highly enjoyable experience. I am intimately familiar with all songs on there and I adore them all.

I hope not. He's a big fan, not an industry expert. An expert wouldn't be on twitter dropping brags.

Questlove is the type that would brag about hearing Prince piss in a stall at a men's bathroom.

Ok! THAT just made me literally laugh out loud at my desk. Folk are looking at me like I've lost it. THANK YOU!

It's amazing how so many put SO MUCH credence behind what Questlove has to say about Prince. This dude is beyond annoying and narcissitic.

I agree.

I won't argue, it's still astounding to listen to it and realize that one 19 year old kid did most of it, he even wanted to take the cover pics. And really, everything he would become in his prime was pretty much there, the layered, rich harmonies, the synth work, the rock guitar, maybe the only thing missing in any capacity was the electric drums which, correct me if I'm wrong, weren't around then. In no way do I discount the album, I just thought the songs weren't that strong.

"I always thought for you was damn near perfect as was"....Oh yeah..don't get me wrong..I love the record for what it was. I just thought it would be interesting to see if he used updated instruments.(digital keyboards instead of clavs, clean guitar textures instead of the 70's phase effects, no syndrums, digital equipment..stuff like that). The rumour was that he started re-recording in 1997..I think I read that in E! magazine.

I am sure he redid at least up to Symbol, think about it, the music is already written, and seeing as he can write 1 or 2 completely new songs a day as well as record them, it stands to reason he could have knocked off 2-3 albums a week. So not a big time investment at all for him to redo these albums.

With all the shagging around that Prince was doing at the time, it's a wonder that he didn't call the song "Willy".

I don't see it that way. He strikes me as a superfan who also happens to be a good musician in his own right, inspired heavily by Prince. His fame gives him a big audience and the stuff he says is mostly superfan-ish. I don't see him much making it about himself.

So apparently Questlove got to hear 'Wally' https://mobile.twitter.co...1366948864 First off I want to know how (although I get the feeling Susannah let him hear it), second will the public get a chance to hear it, and third there's no need to boast about it like that. [Edited 6/8/16 21:08pm]

doesn't really seem like boasting

If he heard it that means it still exists, which is nice to know

I think it's funny that the "deleted" now published interview with Prince in Ebony, he says when they win the music streaming battle that they won't gloat and here we have JayZ with a song, getting played three times in an hour on the station here, basically gloating about how Prince left his masters with him.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Exactly, I mean come on, he knows damn well it is impossible not to ask. Can you imagine if was reversed? He would be the first one askin. It's like saying, hey, Prince stopped by my house yesterday and we played frisbee (don't ask)

Not a lie, he re-recorded them so he could have versions that he owned. Sure the songs are great in their original form, to me though, hearing a new interpretation of these songs many years later would be a very satisfying experience. Much like how I look forward to hearing the different directions he takes his songs live year after year, and much like I enjoyed the maxi singles in the days of old where he would have different versions of the songs he released on the ablums.

The point in time when Prince said this was a point in time when he was talking a lot of smack, and trying to leverage things in negotiations with WB. I really doubt he got around to re-recording much of anything, and if he did, I'd expect it to just be "live" sounding versions of the song with the NPS bandmates, i.e., the last thing in the world I'd ever want to hear.

To be honest re-recording albums is something Prince could have done pretty easily. They're all songs he'd been playing for years.

I for one am also curious as to how he changed them... ie are the newly "reloaded" songs taken from those late 90s remasters?

If they were identical to the original versions then things are less interesting. But new takes on the older songs... count me in.

Maybe he meant, if you have to ask what Wally is, don't bother. Those who know, know...even we haven't heard it. It would be too much to explain and have no importance to a casual or non-fan. Sort of like "if you have to ask you can't afford it lingere"....*shrugs*

Questlove has been rehearsing it for the BET tribute. D'Angelo will be on vocals; Sheila will be on percussion; Madonna will be on remand.
