Prince seemed preoccupied w/astro moon calendar before he died He seemed increasling preoccupied w/the astro moon calendar before he passed. He always seemed to hint at ancient/new-age beliefs even after he became JW. Not saying he's an occultist but it clearly meant something to him. Any wiccans/druids on this board w/guesses what it might have meant?

I don't know what it means but I love that shirt. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

At risk of being ridiculed I have followed the monthly lunar calendar for 40+ years. Just another tool to contemplate or ignore. The heavens are a giant picture show for those who are watching. Brand new boogie without the hero.

All of this confuses the heck out of me. He seemed to be bordering on a lot of things but I don't know it might be common.

Not personally interested in the occult, just wondering what stuff like Prince's interest in the moon calendar might mean to him, people. How they find it meaningful, useful?

Per research The moons in black are Samhain, the dead of winter. The moons in white are Beltane, the peak of spring. His shirt appears to arrange that calendar in a 3D plane w/the peak spring moon prominently at front. Per the calendar that peak moon happened May 1st. Diggimg deeper into tangents and myth, Thoth was the Egyptian god if the moon. The ancient Egyptians regarded Thoth as One, self-begotten, and self-produced. Thoth gradually became seen as a god of wisdom, magic, and the measurement and regulation of events and of time. 🤔 Hmmmm.

Prince seemed to study things of that nature. I'd say religious study was a hobby of his, but I feel that trivializes it. That said- I have researched the moon and there's lots about it. Matriarchal societies often followed the moon- it's why we have months. It worth looking into. No matter what you believe spiritually. Also worth noting, Things with Prince that seem like they are one thing, may have more meanings. I found the idea of Rainbow Children to be pretty new age.its Kinda why the whole Rainbow Children / JW stuff didn't bother me overall. He studied a lot. His learning room library thing on that website sent me down countless rabbit holes. At one point I completely freaked myself out with some of the stuff I had discovered that seemed to me pretty legit and had to pause. I was waiting for him to start another thing like that. It's a big reason I'm so sad he left this plane. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Great question. I've wondered the same thing. How did he have time to research so much, create so much, perform so much, etc.? He was human, right?! Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

When did the planets and stars become the occult? - Last time I checked they were a part of the universe and science (astronomy being the study of all that is there). Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

Google included a lot of occult Wiccan stuff with that moon chart. Guess it's the astrology leanings, vs astronomy. Re: Thoth - Prince wrote a lot about "One" in those NPGMC reading room posts, though. Van Jones said he was preoccupied with Egypt history and wanted to fund a children's cartoon about a lost Egyptian city. Makes me wonder if there was a room at Paisley filled with one of those wall to wall "string maps". 😝 [Edited 6/7/16 4:18am]

Is it possible that he liked the shirt soley for purposes of fashion? Sometimes a shirt is just a shirt? If not, then what do we make of the cover for Planet Earth? Is he a sorcerer? Are the two images (moon shirt and cover art) connected?

MANY societies have used the sun, moon, planets & stars to mark time's passing, to commemorate special days, etc. The ancient Hebrew calendar was based on the lunar cycle, just like the calendars of the druids and the modern Wiccans. Studying their movements is also...y'know...science!
Yes, Prince incorporated some beliefs that were rather New Age, or at least Eastern in their influence. I think he looked to those things that didn't contradict his JW beliefs, and absorbed them. His fascination with chakras, for example, predated his conversion, and he stated in the last Rolling Stone interview that he viewed them as "science", and not as contradictions to his faith.
The whole "third eye" chakra is a controversial one amongst Christians. Some view the whole chakra concept as being harmonious with Biblical thought, and thus have no issue with it, while others view it as occultism. Even within New Age circles, there is debate as to the meaning and spiritiual properties of chakras. The third eye, for example, is cited as being an opening to the truths of the spiritual world by many, while some take it further as a way of astral traveling and interacting with higher powers (naturally, some view the latter as rather dangerous, and avoid such activities).
To bring this back to the whole lunar cycle (as well as the movements of the sun, stars, etc), it is unsurprising that many religions would base their Holy Days & rituals upon these movements, as it was once the most reliable way to mark the passing of time. Sure, many occultists follow this, but that doesn't mean that it is necessarily "occult" in and of itself. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)
