At least that yearly rumour will be gone now. He would have played eventually i'm sure but god knows how long it would have taken before those stars aligned.

^ FINALLY somebody said it.

I HATE whenever I read something about a celebrity online they always feel the need to say "The [insert song] Singer/Hitmaker" and i'm sitting here like...HE'S MORE THAN JUST ONE HIT SONG OK.

idk it's one of those biggest pet peeve of mines.

A non-story. He was due to meet his agent. Talks hadn't even begun. They'd got much further than this in the past and he still didn't play there. Eavis is just promoting the festival on the back of Prince's death, though I have no doubt he'd have loved to have had him play there.

He's said often that Prince was the one act they always wanted.

RIP sad

I am getting very very TIRED of these people using his name to get in the papers to promote their festival and make $$$.

Prince was very involved in P&M tour and there is NO WAY he would break away from that tour to work with a full band for this event..making the assumption P&M would not work at this festival.

The kindest way of honouring him is to respect his privacy and stop talking about him.

He chose hop farm - it was brilliant - game over smile

I agree this is a non-story but disagree that Eavis is in some way promoting the festival using Prince.

.

Tickets for Glastonbury are so popular that they sell out in around 30 minutes and do so long before any of the acts are announced (they go on sale approx 9 months prior to each festival).

.

This was one of the things that used to bug me about Prince's "they're spreading these rumours [of me playing] to promote their festival" attitude, unaware that's not the way Glastonbury works - at least not from a ticketing standpoint.

Exactly. They could double the size and still sell out within the hour. The fact is, Eavis, and his daughter, are genuine Prince fans have always wanted him to play there. No doubt, every year they reached out to him. Some years sounded like they got further with negotiations than others, but for whatever reasons, it never materialised. And if it did, there would be a whole lot of very upset fans because trying to get a ticket once they are sold out is a nightmare. Tickets are all personalised and require ID at the gate. Perhaps thats why Prince was always reluctant? By the time he had agreed to do the festival all tickets had been sold and his fanbase would be shut out.

Yes, the deal with Glastonbury nowadays is the tickets are sold out within minutes of going on sale before headline acts have even been announced or confirmed or even rumoured about.

.

It's why an act like Dolly Parton - in the heritage act slot - will enjoy crowds of over 40,000 people watching them.

.

40,000 people have not bought tickets to watch Dolly Parton, 40,000 people have bought tickets to be at Glastonbury.

.

Pretty hard, being honest, talking about this with an element of disbelief that Prince has performed his last concert already, way before time. Unbelievable. Pretty hard to comprehend.
